Most boring/hated stretches of generally good games

Ha, Blitzball should of been released as it’s own game. Would of sold more than FFX itself prolly haha

I even stuck with mostly all the original team just for the challenge and still ruled Bliztball. I am not going to lie, Jecht shot 1 was a bitch for me to get.

-The Mako sections of Mass Effect. I got pretty good at handling that pile, but I still give out an annoyed sigh whenever I have to do these sections on another playthrough.

-The beginning of Fallout 2. The original was paced so perfectly I never felt bored, but GOD do i hate poking geckos and moving back X amount of hexes so they won’t hit me back.

-The first few hours of Baldurs Gate. Following 2nd edition DnD rules means you get routinely fucked. Saving often is sooo important. Melee combat is just suicide at low levels versus any enemy. My fighter, rogue, 2 mages, druid, and cleric all had to forget about their respective abilities and just whip out the bows and slings till they got a few levels under their belt. After I discovered this worked, I actually had fun charming humanoid enemies and sending them forward, backed up by my firing squad of player characters.

-Leveling up in World of Warcraft. I know so many people who basically said they liked leveling but didn’t want to do anything once they hit the max. I bought the expansion but never got into the meat because despite how much I LOVED instances and raids, getting there pissed me right off.

-The tribal/civilization stages of Spore. Great, we’ve taken away anything I might like about designing my creature and have evolved to playing stupid minigames.

-Everything after the first third or so of Oblivion. I loved piecing together armor from bandits I find on the road, actually having to use a torch in certain sections, watching ammo and resources, and in general actually feeling like an adventurer. Just downhill from there.

-ANY FUCKING CHASE MISSION in ANY FUCKING GTA game. I am SO terrible at GTA driving, and I have to retry chase missions over and over and over again. If I ever throw the game down, it’ll be because of one of these, usually involving a motercycle.

-Non-RPG aspects of RPG games. Certain parts are fun but for the most part the minigames are annoying or poorly designed.

I posted this in the early pages, and I still think this is one of the worst things mentioned so far.

unlocking all tha charaters in MvC2… can you say gameshark??

I imported my DC copy (got it crazy early cuz I did) so I had to download my save because they had 3 types of points and you could only earn 1 type out here in the states. Thank god the psn/xbla versions had everyone unlocked already.

Chasing the corrupt cop in the desert area in San Andreas rings a bell. I swear i unloaded so many clips into that guys car before it FINALLY started catching fire. Shit was stupid annoying.

i know i complain a lot about this game… and it seems like i might be the only one that played it in its entirety, but damn cut scenes in assassins creed 1 come to mind. you know, the one when youre in the boss’s office and hes talking to you about shit you really dont care about cuz all you want to do is go outside and run up a wall and stab someone from behind.
the scenes dont even change or anything, not even into fmv mode. its literally you being confined to a square platform that you cant do anything but walk back and forth in… its like solitary confinement but you get the additional torture of listening to a monotone lecture from an old guy that seems like he wants to put his hand up your white garb and see how big your assassin dagger is. snooze-fest.

i had another thing in mind but thinking about assassins creed got me all hot and bothered…

oh yea! boring!
WoW. you spend more than half the time traveling from point A to point Where-the-Fuck-Am-I-Supposed-To-Be? while riding a dinosaur or something. it looks like most the time is spent traveling through lands of shitty skinned polygons and watching your icons flash pretty colors. WoW, thats pretty boring.

I wish someone would fix the thread-title, makes me cringe every time I see it in my subscriptions.

A thousand times yes. Playing GTA IV the other day I asked myself why I even bother playing GTA games anymore- in IV, for several hours all you do is drive around and do boring shit, then you have to do terrible chasing bits, then you have to kill stuff with the lock-on system that hurts more than it helps, then you have to take out annoying “friends” to do activities they may or may not like…then I realised, there’s not a single thing I like about the GTA games anymore, I just still play them cuz I always did since the first one.

Disagree about oblivion tho, gets really fun later on if you have a stealth type char.

I’ll take GTA chase missions any day over any tailgaiting mission in any game.

God the South American portion of MGS4 is my favorite part. It’s the two longest stretches of pure gameplay, multiple routes to take, multiple ways to play them, sneak, snipe, run & Gun, tons of options. Best part of the game easily.

And I’m with Irennicus about the GTA series. I think a lot of the reason GTA:SA was so terrible to me was cause when you looked at the mechanics of the game it still played just a shitty as GTA3 did. GTA3 is fun cause it’s the first of it’s type so your kind of willing to put up with the bad aiming and movement system and such but by SA I was just appalled that it still played so badly. I guess it’s ok though cause you can work out and get really buff and shit…or something…Fuck GTA:SA.

Final Fantasy - The Ice Cave. Random all-team petrify FTL.
Final Fantasy 4 - The part when you lose the Twins and until you fight Valvalis/Barbaccia. Cecil/Cid/Yang/Tellah is such a crappy party.
Final Fantasy 6 - After you open the gate to the Esper world up until Leo dies. I just thought that part was real boring and at the time when you’re forced to use them, Locke and Terra suck.
Final Fantasy 7 - From the Dyne subplot up until you get Cid. The desert part under Golden Saucer was boring, Red XIII’s subplot sucks, and trudging through Nibelheim was a pain.
Mass Effect - Noveria. What a boring piece of crap planet.
KOTOR2 - When Kreia betrays you to the council or something like that. Either way, this was when the game went from amazing to shit all in one stroke.
Mega Man 3 - When you have to fight the Mega Man 2 bosses again. The stages were hard as hell and some of the bosses were kind of random, so you’d die a lot.
Secret of Mana - The Golden Tower. Most of the bosses were magic resistant so it took a while to beat.
Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out - Mr. Sandman/Super Macho Man. If you have a crappy D-pad it’s impossible to dodge Sandman’s triple uppercut because you can’t quick dodge. And when you do have one it’s hard anyway. I also fear Super Macho Man’s spin punch on wakeup.
Gran Turismo 4 - S-license on Nurburgring. A car that has tendencies to oversteer on an 18 minute track with blind corners.
Day of the Tentacle - Laverne’s part. I thought it was the least fun and had the worst dialogue of the game.

Shenmue 2, my favourite game but final disc was just wondering through fields =/

Wait… enemies PERIOD or enemies that are in pitch black areas? Because I can roll with it if it’s the second. If it’s the first, I agree with you. As far as I know, you light them up with the head, and some of the light “sticks” to them for a little. Enough time to kill them. I’m sure they’ll be… non wasteful with it at least. They won’t just shoehorn it in just to say “look at this shit.”

As for bad stretches of good games:

God of War 1 - Hades Tower.
God of War 2 - Titan Mode in general.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - The End. Maybe I’m too harsh. It’s a great battle from a creative standpoint. However, it took long enough the first time that I always took the easy way out after.

Escort missions in general.

Yeah, Titan Mode isn’t even fun at all because it’s so fuckin’ hard. I’m glad the Collection doesn’t make you do it for trophies. But yeah, I don’t know how they’re going to do the light up guys in GoW3, but if any dev in the world can do it right, it’s Santa Monica Studios.

The End battle is one of my favorite boss battles of all time. I have never been so on edge for so long.

I only did The End battle like 2 times. In all my other playthrus i just shot him when he was in the wheel chair.

I love doing the fight with The ENd. It’s a real sniper fight. Very fun. MGS3 is such a creativ game. The end dies of old age cause I took a week long break from the game? Seriously. I was chuckling for too long over that.

Not sure if any of you ever played Front Mission 3, but holy fucking shit on a stick, I never wanted to start a new game backin the game simply because of the tutorial in the start. SO. FUCKING. BORING. And it was way too long.

I also can’t stand unlocking characters in most fighters, it’s never fun and almost always a complete time sink. And heaven forbid you lose your file, that’s reason enough for me to never touch the game again.
