i think morrigan can deff win tournys, it just takes skill…shes one of those characters that if u build a team around her is very scary, ie haggar lei lei underated but strong assist characters
also i think shes godlike in lvl3 xfactor…but to thrive you have to literally master her movement more than combos …even though combos is the reason you move…like random shadow blade flight fireball , etc
IMO she easily has the capability to win tourneys as an assist character in Ultimate. Being able to win tourneys as a point character…is a much bigger question.
As a point character, she is only viable with Storm at the moment. This way she can get damage off of all her throws if she has at least 2 bars of meter. I suppose Drones or another assist like it would help her rushdown, unless you were going to zone all day with her then a gtfo assist or a beam/hidden missiles would help more.
As an assist, shes much more viable, but at what cost? In UMvC3, she may be even worse. Granted, her meter building assist will be more useful, but its the fact that she can no longer safely apply pressure that makes her kind of suck. Cant block while airdashing, and cant combo after Shell Kick reliably without X-Factor… Also, I havent really seen the damage buff everyones talking about. She looks the same, its just that everyones health is lower/damage is higher across the board so it looks better.
Plus, if Frank’s assist is the same as hers, then hes pretty much a better character. I doubt it will be, however.
u think franks going to be better than morrigan smh shame on you
Just because I was dropping that link like mad in the Evo build doesn’t mean it’s gone, and almost every reason to ever start combos with jS went away with air dash blocking. Time for everyone to finally learn how to actually do tri-jump Hs for highs now, and to whiff tri-jump Ss to go for standing Ls. There were the better option 90% of the time already, but it was easier to just dash in and jS.
Even given my initial reaction, the air dash nerf isn’t the issue I thought it was going to be. She actually covers ground at roughly the same speed just using flight with dashing at all. The hard part is breaking the habit of going for the dash to close space. I still think it was an egregious nerf, and we should have been given something to directly compensate, but it is adaptable. Whether it’s worth adapting, well, another week to start answering that question.
Frank’s version of the meter assist is garbage. Has terrible recovery just like Ammy (I’ve seen it already). Nobody is going to waste time with a meter assist that could get Frank killed. Frank is going to be doing enough of accidentally getting himself killed on point with that drinking problem as it is. The reason why Morrigan’s is the best is because you need to just put the most basic of shit on screen to protect her since she is the fastest active/recovering assist in the game. You literally have to guess to hit her.
I mean the cost of putting Haggar on your team was the fact that you had to put fucking HAGGAR on your team. I don’t know about you…but I’d rather have somebody that can do more on point than Haggar if things get rough. Sure he gave the second character an assist that could actually lockdown but what makes Haggar the best is when he’s in the back so the point character has 2 strong assists…preferably another for longer range. 2nd character coming in with Haggar assist can usually get lamed out and it’s only really effective otherwise on a Phoenix team (which is just a whole nother strange structure of teaming that completely deviates from traditional MVC2/3 style structure).
That’s why it would be ideal to put her 2nd so both characters get an assist for locking people down and still allows you to take advantage of the meter assist. I mean how bad is not being able to block during air dashing really going to be? I think we should wait for the game to come out first and put the work in and see what results we get. The not being able to block during air dash thing will only be particularly scary against beam characters and you can always cancel into flight and block if you’re afraid of beam. Everyone’s going to have to cancel their air dashes from super jump height into flight to not get hit now. It’s not just a Morrigan thing. If what Noone is saying is correct and moving around in flight is nearly as fast as air dashing then you can use the flight to move around and then just start air dashing again once you’re within attacking range.
Considering her air dash minimum height has been reduced that could also help towards making her air dash game at closer ranges especially less prone to errors and safer overall.
