Morrigan 3.0 lvl up video thread

Nah I have to work. Hopefully quitting soon; I’ll attend a major or two afterwards. Maybe UFGT?

Ah ok if I get some free time maybe I’ll run to that. If not maybe Evo or something.

Mmm good stuff, I’ll be at UFGT, hope ta see some of you there.

youtube.com/watch?v=_mYbEj4cRJY&feature=share&list=PL-vQf5rVyPXDz3N5Q-NVr-EUY6_CMhQPY Since no one responded before I’ll post again since its on youtube. NY local I entered, with the usual names you see from big two etc.

What am I supposed to do as morri/doom when you have someone plink dashing underneath my air light soulfists they get to the other side and i have nothing I can do as defence

Wouldn’t Soul fist Lxx unfly j.S work?

^^ it does work, but a lot of characters can easily cross under. Umm…L Soul Fist xx Fly > Updash > forward dash. Dont superjump so much? Morrigan is MUCH safer when at normal jump height. It gives people much less of an opportunity to plink/wave dash in and cross under.

One) If they’re able to do that, it means you’re not covering the ground with Soul Fist. Try to stay grounded when they’re at medium distance if they keep coming in.
Two) Instead of going Soul Fist L xx Fly Soul Fist L xx Unfly, try Soul Fist L xx Fly xx Unfly so you can block.
Three) Falling with j. S can be good if they don’t get behind you fast enough, or you can Unfly j. H, which will cover your back to an extent as well.
Four) Try Soul Fist M, it travels faster.
Five) As STARS said, dash up and away. Something like ADU XX ADF xx ADD j. S should get you away pretty quick.

this is at normal jump height, its with characters like x23 wolverine wesker frank, they are able to plink dash right under if they have good reactions. I should probably try to limit air fireballs and go for more ground fireballs to stop this from happening

Yes exactly. Throw grounded and regular jump fireballs. If your opponents are just barely making it under your jump L soul fists then throw a medium one instead. You should be aiming to not allow your opponents to get under you.

If you insist on doing jump height Soul Fists, try doing j. L Soul Fist xx fly > air dash back wards > L Soul Fist xx unfly. Or something similar. Morrigan has great aerial movement options and options to cover her approaches.

Casuals vs. bro. Tips, comments etc.

Heavy shadow blade flight assist shell kick. !!

Commenting as I watch.

You can punish Dormamu’s stalking flare with uppercut super fullscreen if you input it during the flash (beware dhcs though). It’s minimal damage, but it can stop a swing in momentum. Also, never throw soulfists at ground to jump height vs him, as he’ll just chaotic flame on reaction and that hurts a lot - throw the SFs from SJ height, and then you can throw grounded ones.

When full of bar with Viper and only their anchor is left, you can random super into AV and force them to xfactor via chip. It’s lame, safe, and effective. You’ll also run their xfactor time while they navigate the flood to get near you.

Nice work with Viper! Only glaring thing I saw was not reacting to Jam Session hit on incoming and canceling focus to combo. Didn’t see you using optic blast, so that’s one thing to consider.

Not sure if you have a ToD combo off Viper grab, but if you do, make sure to go for more grabs as mixups / pressure.

Remember that Morrigan’s crouching L is not a low, you want to use standing series with her (unless you’re mashing against tri-dashes, huehue). You might also want to do the normal jump SF loop instead of the super jump one, it’s easier, more consistent and leads to hard kd for AV pressure. Optimal damage with her isn’t really that important as most of the damage should come from chip and stray SFs.

Nice blocking all around! Also, dem staircases.

Work on unflying on super flash. Make sure you input it once, and trust your inputs, as doing it twice usually gets you killed. No biggie, it’s clear you’re still learning Morrigan, so that’ll come in time.

FUCK YEAH OPTIC BLAST.

@Lanzoma, yeah I’ll have to learn to watch out for characters like Dorm that can blow up the screen at regular jump height. He can easily snipe any assist with meters stocked any way.

I’ve been working on the DHC into Morrigan after building meters thing. I like having the double threat of “well you can’t rush me down and if you want to lame me out I’m either going to EX thunder knuckle in or DHC into mutli meter AV”. Against any character like Trish or Spider Man that likes to hang out at SJ height all day being a lameout I can just DHC or raw tag in Morri and now they’re forced to take stray hit and chip and rush down.

Yeah I’m still working on the jam session stuff since I’m very used to using Strider assist where it’s easier to convert and not worry about what happens if they block or take the hit. I like jam session as an assist better overall so I’ll get it down. There’s not much reason to use optic blast against rushdown characters even though I’m a big proponent of using it also. The more I’ve played Viper the more I’ve learned that seismo FADC allows you to keep screen coverage while having far less committment since I can jump block or dash on the first frame of recovery of every seismo. Laser is better to use against zoning characters like Dorm and Morri so you can keep them from calling assists and shut out their projectiles. Laser gives you a full screen assist punish and virtually a long active frame anti air projectile. Which the hit box is great for sniping assists like Vajra also. You’ll see later on in the set I do stuff like cancel seismo into laser and such.

What is the normal jump bnb loop that you use?

Yeah I’m working on just learning Morri’s TAC infinite after throws so I can eventually get the threat of kill combo + all the AV and EX meter I need.

Yeah just gotta play around more with Morri in general.

Here’s some fraudulent morrigan play by me:

Got a capture card and made a channel!

Nice stuff Pat, should make your channel like the official Morrigan video channel, since you’re one of the few of us active Morrigan forumers. Maybe show some of her regular BnBs (easy and hard) for Morrigan hopefuls, and some more synergy stuff you showed like your Vergil extensions like comboing after after a midscreen Shadow Servant.

@pat728, will the XF1/3 bnbs work in XF2 also? What’s the current bnb you’re doing off ground or air hits without XF also?

I use the XF3 version with a little different timing in XF2. The combos are actually pretty flexible, you’ll do real damage as long as you can pull off two jump loops if you’d rather use two ADD or different fireball strengths. Also in XF1 and XF2 you can still get the standard (call doom+S, j.H, dp M, fly, j.S, soul drain, fly, j.H, dp M, super) extension. Another thing worth mentioning is to go into an XF bnb off a non XF starter, cancel your forward H with XF and jump forward into the bnb.

My standard bnbs are in the morrigan vergil strider video. When I use doom arthur it’s the same thing but replace the strider extensions with the standard missile extensions. The only exception is against zero I use: f.H, j.MMH, soul fist H, fly, ADD, j.H, soul fist M, unfly, launch(or two fireballs then launch if we make it to the corner). The XF combos are kinda iffy on zero midscreen as well so against him I don’t try them often unless I’m near the corner.

From air hits I do j.LMH, ADD, j.MH, soul fist M, Launch. I find this to be the most consistent air to air conversion. If they’re below you when you connect then do the combo at normal speed, if they’re above you then put some delay before you ADD. If they’re really below you, then you’re stuck with just j.LMHS. Sometimes I’ll go for another jump loop but usually I just take the launch right away instead of the more optimized stuff. The fact that you’ll be catching people at different heights makes it hard enough just to get the first loop so getting a second one consistently outside of the corner is tough. It’s something I’m looking into though.
