I win against vergil/strider with no issue. The key is dont do too much and punish the obvious mixups. To avoid vajra, dash forward and it will never hit you. dash back and you will get kicked. To deal with swords, soul fist his head, not his body or stay at superjump height. Vergil cant confirm anything at superjump height with swords. Shadowblade and/or finishing shower can punish vajra. Just read the assist call by either hearing it or lookin at the opponents assist icons.

To be completely honest, I don’t think you are playing against very good Vergil/Strider pairings. Dashing forward just makes you a sitting duck, regardless if you avoid the Vajra, punishing a Swords activation with Soul Fist won’t work unless you are very close (not to mention the Swords will break a Soul Fist if you place it incorrectly), and even then if you were in range of that, potentially Vergil could throw out H or S, and hit Morrigan, breaking the Soul Fist along with that. You can’t stay at super jump height either, because Vajra will hit you out as Vergil dashes/teleports under you (as seen in Cheech’s gameplay). Otherwise yea, you’re right about punishing the assist calls, that’s something I’ve gotta do too.

EDIT 2: Holy shit wtf is happening

I didnt say I did that to punish sword activation. Swords doesnt protect Vergils head and if vergil is in blockstun, the swords doesnt have a hitbox so you can blockstring him to stall swords out. You’re taking me saying dash forward too literal. You will most likely be doing soul fist at a distance to commit him to do something. You can dash while in flight and unfly when vergil wants to try to attack. Also if you’re at the right height, the only ground normal he can do is S. H doesnt have a high hitbox. You can jump clear over it and punish. As for people I played, I can beat Sean Y who plays exactly like that guy in the video. I dont let anyone run free with that scrubby shyt lol
Me playing Morrigan/Doom/Ammy, I haven’t watched the footage myself (I probably won’t, I always cringe lol), but feel free to give me advice, and maybe learn something yourself!
I can’t wait to get that capture gear In any case, you basically play Morrigan until she dies, so Dark Harmonizer gets you absolutely nothing. Shadow Blade gets you Shadow Servant on THCs, which is good for mixup a la Doom/Ammy but better. It’s great for assist punishing or forr clearing the screen so you can start zoning again, and if it hits you should be able to get half or more of the meter back. It also gives you a better way to convert off throws, which makes Morrigan more dangerous in close quarters.
EDIT: damn, I got hit with the typo astral vision.
So what you’re saying is that just THC after a throw, and get a combo? I’m playing right now so I’ll try that. But yeah, you’re definitely right about me playing Morrigan until she dies, I might as well use Shadowblade.
if you ever swap morrigan off point, then you get access to an invincible crossover counter too.
and everybody’s favorite: combo extensions!
ammy can use shadow blade to extend her combos in glaive stance. when shadow blade hits you get enough time to superjump, full-charge j.h. you can it with launch + assist, or the 6hhhh thing (you either call morrigan in between the 3rd and 4th hits, or at the same time as the 4th hit). works midscreen too, you just have to make sure you’re close enough so that when morrigan comes out she actually hits the other character.
I’m curious about your thoughts on something, Alioune. In a lot of matches, once you got 5 bars you put Phoenix into play, got her Dark, and then swapped her back out. What is your opinion on the pros/cons of doing that vs. letting her go Dark normally on the anchor spot? I’m running Dormammu/Morrigan/Phoenix, so your advice is very meaningful to me.
if dark phoenix has meter, she doesnt have to worry about incoming mixups or the instant death setups on her. super into xfactor on incoming is hard to beat out from dark.
Starts off pretty bad, but end up getting some legitimate stuff part way through, also 2 reps of infinite into triple DHC for the fraudulent kill at one point. >.>;
After Emergency Combination -> Astral Vision, IIRC you can do Soul Drain, fly, j.S, and then whatever. You could probably call Jam Session after fly-canceling and land a second Soul Drain.
I was just about to edit my posts since I saw that you did it. Cool beans. I like how Jam Session catches people who try to dash toward Morrigan as she trijumps over them into j.S. I hate that song and dance.
I watched about the first hour of gameplay, got some questions and advice:O
Is there any reason why you used c.L so much, and s.L so little? c.L doesn’t hit low; I figured you used it because it’s spammable and hits multiple times. Why don’t you try the full relaunch combo? You would do the combo that you used in your video showing the infinite, when you could’ve done two more soul fists in your combo and got some more damage. Is it because you can do the infinite midscreen (can you even?) I really liked your rushdown, but you never covered yourself with a soul fist. You can still fire off a soul fist xx fly, ADD, j.H and just unfly to land, or you can use multiple airdashs after the fly to maneuver yourself around more. I noticed execution errors, but I feel like you could really cut down on those if you slowed yourself down. You seemed to be trying to do everything as fast as you could; you would get hits astray hits but you would be cancelling into something too fast to capitalize off of it. Also, lots of shadowblade, but maybe too much? I noticed you doing shadowblade xx fly, shadowblade again in your blockstrings. Put you rather high up, and you can’t really do anything after that.
One more thing, I noticed you doing shadowblade M xx fly, soul fist xx unfly, jump etc. to combo. From my experience sometimes the spacing can get wonky and you can’t finish the combo. I do shadowblade M xx fly, j.H xx unfly, j.H (land) s.M, f.H, jump etc. Whatever works for you:)
I’d really like to see you play Morrigan on point on one of your teams. You’re one of a select few people who really have a chance to record your matches with her; it’d be great to see more Morrigan gameplay. Thanks for posting!
As for executional errors, week 3 morrigan with too much time spent doing gigs/jobs instead of training.
2A instead of 5A is a bad force of habit from playing other characters with solid air dashes, need to get out of it, but it’s hard to break muscle memory. For the lack of relaunch combo, I did at some points, but I’m really working on getting the timing to go into the infinite stable so I’m disproportionately attempting it more to try and always get the jump S at the right height, I’m happy to sacrifice damage now to hit it consistently in tournament later. You unfortunately can’t infinite midscreen to my knowledge (happy to be proved wrong ASAP) I do need to 236A xx 214S 2A+B more often. I do it some in there, but far from enough, normally I’m additionally summoning Dante, so if they press a button that would hit Morrigan at those points they’ll get sessioned and I still get to combo as long as it wasn’t a helm breaker or the like. Executional errors are since I’m a really low execution player that’s only been playing her a few weeks, just need to practice. I try to do things at the speed that will put hit boxes where I want them to be, but just need to practice for consistency. I should practice transitioning from slower to faster for more stability, thanks!
For Shadowblade I never go for flying shadowblade since it’s unsafe, The joysticks were a bit janky on the set up, those were all shadowblade xx fly xx soulfist xx unfly xx air dash, but it was really not coming out on that thing Also see the fact that I could barely soul fist at all to the left on that miserable stick, too poverty to get a fully functional stick, like most of NorCal. Though honestly I still need to use more shadowblade and kara shadowblade in footsies.
I’ll try the C unfly follow up instead to get more stable and damage, thank you very much for sharing your insight and knowledge!
