Hello everyone!
My name is Joel and I live in Dorval, West Island suburb of Montreal. I am a competitive Smash Bros. Melee player, but I am showing interest in learning the competitive side of Street Fighter 3rd Strike (Anniversary Collection I believe?). I’ve never played the game. Heck, I still need to try and buy it.
I know (or at least know of) Smokey, and another person you may know as Steve_V. I hear that there’s a fellow nicknamed ‘Sandman’ who hosts gatherings and such.
Anyways, I’m anxious to learn how to play this game, and find out its subtle differences in Smash. I personally have a mindset that this game is straight-up mindgames and not too much technical skill as Smash; I’m hoping you guys can prove me wrong!
Umm…a bit about myself…I’m easygoing, like to get around and meet new people, and I’m a very enthusiastic individual. On the Smash level, I’m probably considered as a middle-class player, probably Top 15 in Quebec at best (I could be wrong). I’ve been known to hold Smash gatherings at my house before, but an unhappy landlady has changed that :P. But, we’ve been able to set up Smash Bi-Weeklies at a Gaming store near Snowdon metro, so it all balances out.
My French isn’t the greatest but I can speak and comprehend french perfectly fine.
Hope to learn from you guys sometime soon!

You guys can call me Rick, I’ve been lurking on the SRK boards for a long time, but decided 2day to make an account and check out the regional threads.
My favorite game is SF2 and I also play a crappy Urien… I also tried to get into GGXX, but none of my friends wanted to play it with me and I didn’t find any serious players at Pinochet (that place sucks, but it’s the closest to me). Also, it’s been a while since I haven’t played traditional fighters at my home, primarily due to ‘‘equipment’’ issues.
So a few months ago, I started playing Smash, and while relatively being new to the scene, I handle myself pretty well. I know ThatGuy, we played Wednesday… and btw Joel, 3s is harder than Smash technically, you can believe me on that one… and you won’t be able to rush in with aerials all the time hahaha
While playin smash I also met Smokey, so I kinda got the hint from him that there was a Montreal community set up here at SRK. It seems that the guys over here are big fans of MvC2… oh well I never really got into that game even though I had it for DC. I’d like to know from you guys what are the most popular games around here, so I can get a better grasp of the community.
Btw Smokey, have you started planning that tourney with Chet?

But that’s cool, I did watch a couple matches and I did notice some technicality involved. I’ve never actually experienced it because I’ve never played the frickin’ game. What I did notice was some intense mindgames. Trying to land that hit in, land a successful parry, frustrating the opponent, some really nice stuff which I would like to learn.
Does anyone live in West Island and would be willing to train me from scratch?

Lol man not at all theres much more technical involved then in smash. Cuz in smash there arent lke specific combos or chains that you do. Dans smash c’est plus de l’improvisation pis meme si tu rates des affaires tu peux facilement te reprendre, tandis que dans SF si tu rates la moindre chose meme un putain de shoryuken t dans la merde. (sorry for the french-english mix )
But you’ll probably realize that once you come to a gathering. One thing though you should definitely learn how to play the game b4 coming to a gathering cuz first of all. You have to play on a stick because we dont allow controllers in the gathering cuz its too complicated switching all the time, and the players here are all like top players its as if you were playing chester pkm BAM and vwins all the time, so if you dont know at least the basics your gonna eat double perfects all day man.
Rick: Lol ammene toi on jouera SF2 c pas vraiment tough a jouer avec genre 3-4 gatherings tu deviens bon dans ce jeu haha. As for the tourney I dont know we havent talked about it and were prolly gonna end up doing the tournament alone cuz its too complicated, but tourney’s in march thats almost for sure. And the games we play are MVC2, 3S, SF2, CVS2 and A3 those are the most popular games

Due to an unforeseen event Me, Veas and Mao might have to leave the gathering early tomorrow probably aroung 6-7pm so if it’s ok with Marc we were wondering if the gathering could start earlier like 1-2pm

There should be a MvC2 Tournament on Saturday, but since Sars is in town, i suggest we run a A3 one, hell we could introduce Mr.New Guy to the scene, you guys could have a sparring partner while im away so u could try to keep up lol!
