The GD mods are perfectly fine. And they all do their job very well.
And they aren’t inconsistent. They’re all laid back which is what a forum section like GD needs. They remain so, and never deviate from that. So they’re consistent.
It’s always when someone else from another forum section or another super moderator or admin comes in with the uneeded in GD(in my opinion) iron fist and throws the whole moderating consistency out of wack.
Like Pryde or Javi or You or someone will show up, and throw everything out of wack.
Maybe they’re doign what they usually do! I have no idea, but it’s kind of like a jurisdiction feeling IMO. GD is nothing serious, and the way it’s observed and guided is just great. Now a forum section like Tech Talk, or the Dojo, IMO those would need the iron fist moderation, cause those sections are serious.
There were atleast 2(i counted 3 or 4) other hateful or offensive considered posts in that same thread that did not get infractions in conjunction with the 4 you did. But that’s exactly my point, it’s obvious that the posts were negative but infractions were still not given to them. That’s the grey area im referring to. I had actually welcomed the new member to the site, but some others had also said something, no matter how high or low the level of vulgarity you would rate it used, negative and didnt even welcome the new member. Infraction free.
I’m just curious to see if this newfound niceness on SRK will attract some people to the areas that ctually matter (FD, EVO, and strats) (which would be good) or if the lack of freedom of hate will just scare the old timers little by little until this place is filled with vs threads. (which would of course be bad)
Some boards have this “Newbies” section just for them, or a “Hello/Goodbye” section for those coming and going. They tend to have introductionary threads, going on vacation threads, just came back threads, and the like. Social stuff and all that.
Not saying that this is actually needed though, as I think the number of “I’m new here” threads just aren’t enough to seem like GD is on a broken record. Yet.
EDIT: By section, I mean whole forums like GD or FGD here in SRK.
Still don’t think it’s really needed, but it’s something to consider nonetheless.
We get, at most, one or two intro threads per month. That’s nothing compared to the rate at which we get other shitty/rule-breaking threads.
If you don’t like intro threads, all you have to do is ignore it for a few days until it slides into obscurity and eventually gets purged from the server. That, I don’t think, is very hard to do, and we certainly aren’t asking too much of you for you to try it.
There was a thread in FGD entitled “theory fighting questions” or something like that. I thought it was a pretty good discussion but it seems to have disappeared. Any way to find out how/why it was deleted? If it’s too much of a hassle, don’t worry about it.
not to try and take potential money away from the site but, firefox and adblock? I don’t even know what the site looks like normally anymore.
Yeah I get that too. Sometimes it lasts the whole day sometimes only 5 mins. Also search function doesn’t seem to work if you put more that one word it in. alpha sagat doesn’t work but then alpha by itself does. weird.
the wiki is back up and functional for now, but we had to upgrade the software and the skin is alittle off. It still should function like the wiki though, post if you have any problems.
That sucks. Why did i spend all that time writing shit if it was just gonna get deleted inexplicably? Only mods should be allowed to delete threads. Anyway thanks for the info.
Can we nominate threads to be saved? Because there are threads which people would like saved for posterity, and there’s some stuff that’s just crap that nobody needs.
