I care. My brother was on Saint John when Maria fucked it up. He lost everything. Except his guitar. Somehow he found it unharmed, except for a broken string, amidst the rubble that was his house.

As someone who lived in St. Thomas for 9years and went through 2 hurricanes (Hugo and Marilyn 1989-1995), it was an ordeal to go through that twice and lose power for 3 months, and land phone for 9 months.

We lost a lot of our family keepsakes/clothes etc

I shudder to think what VI and PR people had to go through with Trump’s incompetence.

Laughter because I no longer live on the island.

Here another thing, I expect leaders dont know everything. But they do have advisers and experts to consult. Is it that hard to ask your staff before making a public statement what is the Virgin Islands. To Google the shit first.

Like I dont expect anyone here to know where or even what Angola is. But I expect you all have the ability access to the internet to search what Angola is, where it is, and possibly some information about it.

And I expect everyone if it’s related to your job to research something if it’s knowledge pertinent to your job and you didn’t know what it was.

I would posit that it is Americans’ not giving a shit, which precipitated a moron in the White House.

So Murikan ignorance and willful stupidity is ultimately to blame for all of this.

Trump is the presidential equivalent of a casual fg player. They’re interested only in the parts they’re interested in but perfectly happy to jump online and mash buttons as long as they’re havjbg fun. Of course he isn’t going to know or care about a lot.

If othet countries were so great, people wouldnt be leaving them for better opportunities.

So everybody else can hold that. The US is actually pretty fucking nice.

To be fair a lot of the countries hes called shit holes ARE shit holes. How many people are clamoring to live in Haiti?

The problem is, there are parts of the US that resemble shithole countries, and it’s fucking deplorable that the situations in Michigan and Puerto Rico have yet to be fixed.

Puerto Rico is nowhere near Haiti levels.

Pls dont disrespect.

I didnt mean it like that. The problems in PR are through no fault of their own. Shithole places are usually such because of corruption.

“Refugees” often get a ton of benefits.

Shame about, y’know, the homeless vets and such.

The U.S. owns Puerto Rico, after all. :coffee:

If by corruption you mean The CIA, then… yeah. Absolutely.

But once again, that’s 'Murika.

Autonomy

(Satire of course)
But you know once they are done fighting wars for us, giving all they got and living every day with the nightmares their faced, who cares if they end up on the streets. We got the value out of them while we can. These brave men and women gave up their bodies, minds and souls for us plebeian citizenry and the captains of industry who never faced anything more fierce than an angry yellow jacket care if G.I. Joe is lying in a ditch face first with the mental scars that should cripple most men or come back with missing limbs if they come back alive at all. It’s not like we OWE them anything.
