oh hell yeah… I just beat a certain challenge on one of the early stages that unlocked the top hat! Also, I flat out DOMINATED those cpu chumps this time…like an anime supervillain that came back with a significant increase in power-level. Madness… those fools weren’t even showing up on the mini-map part of the screen anymore. On the results screen, there was 13 seconds between my 1st place finish and the AI racer that came in 2nd. This was with one of my favorites…“GORT” from The Day the Earth Stood Still.
It seems like drifting is like the major thing against the cpu in this game. I’ve gotten so much better at it now, and the result is soooo nice. Of course, it helps that those early tracks are naturally easier to navigate anyway. Today’s creations were Toxie, the Toxic Avenger…Battletoad, Freeza, and I started on Sugar Bear, and some originals that will be shown off later of course.
*the top hat itself is cool (is there a time when a top hat isn’t awesome? I think not.)…but it’s very disappointing that all the hair selections clip right through it…so a character with a top hat basically has to be bald, or have “sticker-made” hair, unless you want the “hair going through the hat like it’s not really there” look.
I honestly think the keys are drifting and dropping every powerup you can behind you. The CPU is always on your ass 24/7 and dropping em has net more me kills. They don’t seem as prone to shield it. Drifting nets you meter which lets you survive with shield. Fuck boost when I am in the lead. Shield all day.
I finally finished all the challenges in the career mode. I think the most annoying challenges were the ones that require you to take out opponents in a specific manner. For instance, in the Motobahn track you need to take out one opponent by activating a Devastator, which took forever since your chances of hitting someone is so random. The other annoying challenge was the one where you have to sideswipe 3 opponents off of a certain cliff side. My favorite challenges were the ones that require a certain amount of drift or max speed points because those at least tested your actual driving skills.
So far, I’ve published a few character mods. For One Piece fans, I’ve published a Luffy, Smoker, and Hancock, and I recently published an Ibuki.
K. Rubber-band AI is so EA racing games last gen. The fuck? That and being in first place near the finish on the last lap and getting hit by 4 consecutive swarm missiles. AI is nasty, we gotta get some online on soon, Srk!
yeah, I think Shield is way more important than boost. Shield saves you when AI decides to launch level 3 attacks when you’re on the 3rd lap. I have used boost while in 1st place though, just to gain even more distance away from the cpu…this has only been on the easier tracks though…heh, also because I could easily regain the meter with more drifts.
Your character looking back is definitely the signal that it’s time to put up the shield. Sometimes this signal never happens though, and you’re just hit out of nowhere with the cheapness. Fortunately, that appears to be a bit on the rare side. I’m glad there’s a huge warning for that level 3 sonic wave (aka “the wrathful hand of God”). I’m able to consistently shield against it now.
ooooooh character ideas again:
Bucky O’Hare!
Medabee
The Red X from Teen Titans…and Slade!
I unlocked the sombrero recently, but it’s disappointing. The damn hat is too small, and sadly…hats are NOT adjustable in any way. (*this would open up so many interesting creation possibilities if you could move the hat around to various points on the character head.)
I also with the “Hero Helmet” could be colored differently all over. You can only change the color and texture and add stickers to one little section on the front of that mask. The rest of the helmet is Forever Red (ha!)
DLC I’d enjoy—> new creation items of course…I’d probably be more interested in more “odds/ends” accessories, and perhaps new hats/helmets…oh and new engines…definitely more “silly” engine types…like what about a brain in a special containment unit/computer, or a jar with the captured soul of a demon, a super-computer, a robot, etc.
Picked this game up Monday, addicted by Monday night. The challenges get kinda difficult, but its becoming my favorite part. Just started messing with character creation yesterday,I 'm so biting the Big Earl idea (TJ&E) from Million if its possible. Also working on a black dynamite as well. This game is crack.
oh yeah I’m definitely down to race with SRK folks… I mostly play on weekends though. I have another sick, disgusting new idea to create and post probably by tonight or tomorrow.
I’m currently on Grand Tour, and it looks like there’s just 2 races left for me. Of course, I haven’t completed all the special challenges though.
Token Shop— I’ve cleaned out the 2x and 5x sections quite awhile ago…nothing but 1x stuff now.
ooooh! More character ideas:
a critter from the movie Critters
-Leprechaun from that Leprechaun slasher-horror movie.
-Lucky the Leprechaun, that cereal character.
-Saibaman from DBZ (*probably not anywhere near as popular as Goku and the rest of the Z-warrior clique)
-Bonk from Bonk’s Adventure(TurboGrafx-16 era)
-Kid Chameleon? (he’s such a boring, plain character though if he’s NOT wearing a mask powerup.)
-Chuck E. Cheese?
-Billy Bob (haha, newer generations don’t know who the hell this is though…they only know of Chuck E. Cheese)
-Boss Hogg from the Dukes of Hazzard…and Roscoe P. Coltrane!
I finally beat career mode, completed all challenges & unlocked everything! :woot:
Here’s my Beat mod so far.
Working on Ryu as well. I just gotta get rid of his sleeves.
Yeah, that’d be dope.
Add me up as well guys!
We can help each other get the “Getting to know you” trophy ? Invite 5 unique friends to an online race.
Got this game today, its way too much fun, quick question though: how do people make the faces look EXACTLY like their counterparts (eg: Make Vegeta with Vegeta’s face from the anime), I’d also like to know how to do some of the complicated sticker’ing like say doing Vega’s snake tattoo…
any help on those matters is greatly appreciated.
Oh and add me guys, I still cant get a good feel on the controls but I’ll play anyone.
LittleBigPlanet did it. It’s really just about changing the compression and rebuild algorithms. Basically, the decision that the devs made was to compress the track sizes really, really small and have them rebuilt “on the fly” once they’re on your hard drive. It makes your load times longer, but equally it makes the time to download new tracks and such much, much shorter - otherwise you’d have almost no load times, but it would take like 10 minutes to download a track and the custom mods & karts for a full race. They definitely went with the smarter design option, but if they can improve the compression algorithms, they can lower the load time too - that’s what they’re working on in the new patch.
wow, epic post about an epic finish…and I can’t post because a token expired?! what the fuck is that? Anyway, as I was saying…I beat Grand Tour finale! It came down to me and Espresso, 1st and 2nd…finish line was in sight and we both got rocked by the level 3 blue wave… I was getting hit while crossing the finish line though, and I think someone else caught the 2nd place. The difference was like 8 milliseconds…crazy. heh, and I just happened to be playing as my latest creation…MR. IMPOSSIBLE!

-Brainy with his Pain Train? kart.
-Ashisogi Jizo again (*heh, they auto-censor “Jizo”, so online I published him as “AshisogiJ” or something like that)
-Mr. Impossible looking cool in the background while we get a closer look at his impossibly cool kart.
-that powerlevel…it’s…FREEZA!!!
