Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Thanks for the info.
Looking forward to my stick and buttons arriving now, will post a pic when done

Just finished it minus the artwork.

Very happy with the difference in the feel of the stick and buttons.

Your thoughts?

If anyone reading this knows a good UK company to get the art printed, drop me a pm or reply here please

What buttons/stick did you use? By the way the design looks sick!

Sanwa JLF and regular 30mm Sanwa Buttons.

Thanks, yes exactly as jdm714 says

I soo love this site thank you to all modders!!!

I’m looking to swap the hori buttons on my ps3 fighting stick 3 with sanwa parts. After watching this person’s tutorial

(very informative btw)

I’m feeling like I can do it. The only thing I’m not confident on is the wiring. I know nothing about wiring, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I know I need a soldering iron and some other roll of wire (braid??). I put the wire on the 2 silver cone-shaped things and use the iron to burn them off. Dumb question, but why not use the iron itself? What does the wire do? Does it focus the heat on that one area maybe? I’m guessing that I should melt the cone-shaped material just enough to let the button loose. I’m also guessing that the ā€œneedlesā€ need to touch the metal in order for the electricity/signal to go through it and so I shouldn’t melt that.

So ok, lets say I get there. I connect wires to the buttons and to their respective positions on the PCB board. What are my options in terms of getting the other part of the wire to stay connected to the PCB board? Also, what kinds of wires are there for this kind of thing? For instance, something like this

Hey guys i’m new to stick modding and was looking through the forum and it made me interested in modding my fs3. I have a lot of experience with circuit work but the only question i have is… How did you guys do the artwork? Like what material did you use and how did you get it on the faceplate. Thanks! sorry if this is a repost!

well since you guys are new i’d advise you to go through this thread and look for w/e you need

and for the fs mods, http://forums.shoryuken.com/t/hori-fs3-wii-ex2-modding-thread-what-you-need-to-know-bout-modding-one-of-these/59287

Warrior’s Dream: the roll of wire (braid) is just a form of metal that has a lower melting point then w/e your soldering on to. Remember your soldering, not welding the two parts together. The braid is the ā€œglueā€ between the wire and the PCB, its just it’s a metal rather than actual glue. Look through slagcoin’s site for more info

as for wire, personally i’d go with stranded not solid

as for artwork, go through the 3rd link, look under artwork, grab a template. Use photoshop (or gimp), get your artwork, resize, and put the button layout on top of your artwork layout. From there search the forums for good printing directions, find a nice print shop, and decide whether you wanted to use lamilabel or a spray glue.

Hi all noob here,

I am wondering will these wires be suitable to wire from the button to the PCB

Red Light Duty Hook-up Wire - 25m - Jaycar Electronics

Cheers

should just check the size (not the length), if its 20-30AWG (the higher the AWG the smaller the wire btw), it should be good. Also i recommend stranded, but if you want to go solid that’s fine too

Cheers buddy, would I need crimper to crimp the wires or can i just strip them with scissors (Used to do this with speaker wires )

You only need a Crimper Tool if you are crimping the wire onto .110" Quick Disconnect for use on Button.
If you just stripping the wire and soldering to Button, then would not need Crimper Tool.

Cheers for the help fellas, I’ll report back when all my parts arrive and I begin modding

Here’s a I-No art template i did for my stick

Looks Awesome!

I actually started this one a couple of days before d3v put up his Iron Man TE template, just nicked the boarder from his for this one.

I think the glow might be a bit too much on this one. Tried it without the glows, but the buttons look a bit plain.

Figured after Evo, Yatterman 2 needs some love.

Yay, you were able to make it.
