Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Whoops, sorry I missed that!

Anyway I think the layout you want is Arcade Stick - B. (It also maps R1 and R2 to be PPP and KKK respectively)

Lol KKK

Anyways, yeah. SSFIV has a button layout for the HFS3, so rewiring would be kinda pointless unless you are really used to the Madcatz layout. But if you happen to switch out the buttons themselves, which you might wanna do once you feel as though you are ready to mod the stick, there would be your chance to remap the buttons.

Although optional, it’ll be a good idea to also switch out the stock restrictor gate and throw in a Sanwa gate. A little bit of modding for the gate, but onyl drilling a few holes though.

Also, be sure to dedicated almost your WHOLE day to it. Its a fucking bitch to mod the thing, but after the first time, depending on what you’re doing, its much easier and less time consuming.

Thanks again. I hadn’t considered that SSFIV would have a specific button setting for that kind of stick. I was ready to just manually set the buttons accordingly.

I’m actually rather interested in stick modding in general. So I’m going to remap the button layout via software while learning to the stick, then when I’m ready I’ll swap out the parts for something better.

One thing you might wanna do is order yourself some Quick Disconnects when you swap out your parts. It’ll make everything SO much easier.

Ah, yes. The way things are set up in the SE/TE models? (Which I only recently realized.) That’s a good point. I will do that. Thanks!

Hey guys, using some tips from this thread i’ve started modding my first arcade stick by replacing the stick and buttons with Sanwa parts.

I’ve taken some pics to document my progress, all that’s left is to wire up the pushbuttons with quick disconnects and possibly print out some artwork for the front.

EDIT Modifications are now completed! works and performs great. Now to figure out how to attach artwork to the front.

Good stuff Runsa! Some of the images in the past expired and some working now may expire later so it was really good of you to do that for anyone in the future who may want to mod one of these.

Hey, I bought a modded FS3 recently and uh, the when i hold mp it sometimes adds more MPs (like if i were rapidly pressing it instead of holding) i rewired the button from triangle to L2 and while the problem doesn’t occur anymore this isn’t an ideal solution. anyone know what’s up?

Try swapping the button.

First attempt at Modding the FS3

Hey guys,

I’m going to give this mod a shot and wondered what parts and where is the best place I can get them from.

I’m a big fan of the Sanwa Crystal buttons and wonder if they are compatible.

Cheers guys.

-Chris.

Chirs are you talking about clear buttons? Sanwa doesn’t make them, only Seimitsu.

As for where to get them, whatever is most economical to you. If you’re from the states, you can google Lizardlick.

Are, Seimitsu, they are the once I meant. How are they in terms of quality? and is there a particular type of connection/fitting I need to put them in the Hori fS3?

I’m based in Australia, guessing there is no where to buy here, so where ever is the cheapest I guess?

What Stick should I get?

Thanks.

Akihabara shop/Lizardlick would be best (cheapest) for Seimitsu parts to Australia, and either Akihabara shop or Arcadespareparts for Sanwa I would think.

Sanwa and Seimitsu make the best buttons you can buy. So yes, they are good buttons, but most people prefer Sanwa, they’re a bit looser where as Seimitsu is a little stiffer. To get them in, you’ll have to enlarge the holes of the FS3 which is a piece of cake if you have a rotary tool. If not, it can be done by hand and sand paper but it’d be a bit more time consuming and labour intensive.

As for the stick, I think the general consensus is the Hori stick is pretty solid, so unless you’re used to Sanwa and absolutely can’t use anything else, I’d just stick with the stock stick. It’s a lot more hassle to change it out than it’s worth.

Can screw ins fit easily? Or does the plastic get in the way of the area where you screw?

Also which Seimitsu stick will fit easiest?

Probably doable but wouldn’t recommend it. It gets tight with snap-in already. You’d have to modify the case a bit I suppose it’d work.

Id thought id mod my hori fs3… little did I know that the ls32 is to big so the bottom pannel wont close :stuck_out_tongue:

now im thinking of mounting a piece of wood under the stick and then close it up :stuck_out_tongue:

Greets guys, thanks for the info here it has helped me get together almost all the items I need to mod my fightstick.

One small question, in order to link the buttons to the pcb, should I be using any particular kind of wire or will simply anything do? I have some old speaker wire left over from my surround sound system, no idea what ‘grade’ or anything it is.

Forgive my ignorance if this is really simple stuff, I’m on unfamiliar ground here

Use speaker wire if you want.
No problem.
