12.20mm it is.

Other than a simple button and joystick mod that I did with my TVC stick, this is the first stick which was a pain in the ass with good results that I have properly modded. Sanwa buttons, madcatz balltop, hori joystick but has custom art. I do wish to change the PCB for the Datel one so I have a small, light stick which works on both 360 and PS3. I’ll probably change the balltop too sometime.
Also for the blazblue fans, the art is from these fan made comics (20-22):

So yea just need to know if the Datel/paewang/mayflash pcb will work with the hori start, select, home button or any of them (so long as it works with 4 of the buttons on the top)?
thx alot jdm i was wondering if u knew a place that i coudld get my hands on a button of that size??? maybe someplace like radioshack or home depot??
u said 12.20mm
Can anybody please tell me if I should be doing bottom mount or top mount for the closest to arcade shaft height? Thanks!
No-one’s got a solution to my Button 1 problem and joystick? T.T
hey guys any chance anyone else find the stick to be a bit on the short side? i always find myself grabbing a little bit higher than where the ball is sitting…
Hori Fighting Sticks are shorter than standard, yes.
You and me both, buddy!
I don’t think you can solder it there as they need two points in order for it to work. It seems like you hadn’t desoldered properly thus ripping out the metal points. But notice near each point, there is a gold or silver dot running along each line? Yea solder your luck there (and use a gluegun to hold it in place). Should work. Keep in mind that there will be a lot of wire needed unless you can thread it through the holes.
The button themselves aren’t in one big blob either, are they? Usually it wouldn’t register is if the two connections are well… connected together (like in a big blob).
ah! weird cause this is the first fight stick i’ve ever bought, read this thread a bunch of times in hopes of modding it but thought that maybe i should play with it stock first, so i know what i wanna change.
would it be better to change the whole joystick or is it possible to just replace the metal shaft?
Hey SRK i was wondering if anyone here had the top pcb with buttons (start select turbo ect) i fried my board and figure i would ask to see if anyone wasnt going to use theirs. If so i would love to buy it from you.
Question about sticks for HSF3. I’ve read some posts where users said that they had to make the case deeper because their stick ended up coming out the bottom of the case. What stick should I get?
Also, any precautions that I should take so that I don’t render my stick unusable? It’ll be my first mod.
Another concern I have is whether it is really worth it. Like is the difference between the regular stick and the sawna parts one really that noticeable? My current stick feels kind of loose and doesn’t do diagonals as well as i’d like it to, so I was wondering if replacing it would correct this.
The sanwa one is the easiest to mount in I’d say (with a bit of effort) as its holes fit in perfectly with the need of a lot of filing/sanding/dremel usage. Personally, I just kept the stick as I quite like it anyway.
One precaution that you must take care of is not to melt the plastic on the edges. The inside, that is fine so long as it isn’t where a screw has to go (so if you melt the 2 cylinder plastic things sticking out, don’t worry too much). Also when desoldering, make sure the solder is hot when taking off the old solder and do not use your hands EVER when getting it off hot or cold as you either will burn yourself or will rip off the connections on the circuit. Braid or sucker, up to you. Both work just as good. Just make sure that you don’t burn yourself if you are using desoldering braid or if you use a solder sucker, make sure you clean it out after you have finished.
The Sanwa stick I would say has a longer lifetime than the Hori one but personally, I’m comfortable with the Hori one. If you want a comparison, go to an arcade, ask someone working there what type of stick is used (usually Sanwa or Seimitsu), feel the joystick and go ahead and insert a few coins to try it out. Then when you get home (or if you brought it into the arcade), just see if there is any difference in preference. It could be that you may prefer an octagonal gate instead. If you barely used a stick before, I would recommend getting used to the one you have now before comparing with octagonal.
Ok so I got everything to fit and fried the board. Major bummer. I have a TE stick coming in, does anybody know if I can put the PCB from the TE in the FS3? I’ll probably end up dual-modding the TE later on anyway.
Don’t know why you would do that but yea, it is possible. You may not be able to use the start, select, home, turbo buttons though.
If he wires up the Start, Select, Home, Turbo, then able to use.
Just keep the PCB for that, then wire to the TE PCB.
Because the Buttons have those soft contact pad things, that is why stock PCB needed.
Do you know if the same will work if I were to do it with the Mayflash one?
I don’t have a desoldering bulb, and I’m kind of lazy to go to radioshack and get one. Is there any alternative to desoldering the buttons from the PCB because I did a PS1 padhack and I want to attach the Sanwa buttons to the pad and remove the stock PCB. Also, can anyone tell me where to solder the start and select buttons to the stock pcb that’s at the top of the stick because I still want to have start and select obviously.
grab a toothpick, and give yourself a headache is my suggestion for alternative
seriously, you’ll hate it, get yourself a desoldering bulb or something. This is your stick, dont half-ass it because you have bad equipment
as for sanwa vs stock comparison. If you think stock is loose, sanwa is more loose.
Yeah I just got back from Radioshack and I purchased that desoldering bulb. Now I have another problem. How do I get those little tabs off of the button holes because the Sanwa buttons won’t fit in and I don’t have a rotary tool. Is there an alternative way, or should I just buy that as well?
