Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

btw is there an tips to avoid removing the contacts when desoldering? anything specific?

If I wanted to just switch out the gate opposed to the whole joystick itself, would that be possible without/no real modding required? Can I also just switch out the ball top with any sanwa or seimitsu or do I have to get an adapter for it/not possible? Huge noob at this, just wanted some things cleared lol

Yes; Restrictor Gate.

Yes; Ball Top.

Those links were exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot man!

Hey guys, need serious help.

I’ve been attempting to mod my FS3 with sanwa buttons but with the new wiring I am unable to screw the board holding the top buttons back into place. Could someone provide me with a solution?

As long as you have all the buttons in the right place it should go in easily. Watch out for the turbo switch though, you might have it in backwards.

Been lurking for a while. I’ve actually skimmed through this thread a couple times, I just had a couple questions before I start modding my FS3.

I have a JLF and Sanwa buttons coming in. I was wondering what’s the verdict on mounting the JLF? I’m not sure if top-mounting or bottom-mounting would yield better results. I’m looking for as close to an arcade feel as I can get.

Also I’m thinking of doing the Six-Axis mod. How much more lag should I expect? Is it recommended for competitive play or just stick with cable? I also keep hearing that the PCB of the FS3 is crappy, but why is that? Is it worth forking out more cash for another PCB?

Thanks!

Here’s the layout I’ll be using:

Nothing fancy or creative but like I said, I’m looking to recreate that arcade feel. The first time I went from old Happ machines to a candy cab with ball-top and seimitsu/sanwa buttons was one of the best feelings of my life!

The stock HORI balltop is the same size as Sanwa/Seimitsu 35 mm balltops correct? Or is it smaller?

Alright guys, I’ve got some fucking big problems with this stick and I’m really sorry but I am a total noob at this shit and I know fuck all about electrical engineering.

I’ve done the mod as stated but my buttons dont work AT ALL and also even though I didnt even touch the stick, moving left on the stick does NOT work.

I’ve uploaded some pictures for you guys.

Ignore the furthermost left wiring as I don’t intend to use those buttons. Any help would seriously be appreciated, I’m a poor ass student and I’ve sunk over 60 dollars into this mod…

You need to put something to insulate the electricity between the bottom plate (which is also made of metal) and the PCB. A piece of paper will do but will not be a permanent solution (I used some plastic that used to hold a shirt).

I actually taped the bottom of the plate using electrical tape. Also when I tried to configure the buttons it seems the stick keeps thinking button 1 is being pressed down.

you taped wire to the plate?

I knew that it was likely that the PCB would touch the metal bottom plate so I taped up the side which would come in contact with it with electrical tape.

Your X button contact is blob-soldered to its ground; that’s more than likely why button 1 is “held down” in the Control Panel. Also, what the hell are the wires for on the O button contacts? I don’t follow.

I can’t not think it is that big blob of solder that is causing for one Button to recognize being pressed.
Is it?

I have one of these PS3 Hori Fighting Stick 3 (currently, not in my possession, however) as well as two Wii Hori Fighting Stick. I came in a bit a of a dilemma a week ago and was hoping if somebody here can help me out.

(taken from the Noobie thread, since no one replied to it).

Alright, I unsoldered the L1 button into 2 blobs, and I found another problem. It turns out I soldered button 1 the wrong way (oops), I resoldered them back into the position they SHOULD be but it is still registering I’m holding down button 1! What the shit am I doing wrong…

It doesn’t matter which way the Button is soldered.
What is Button 1?

Button 1 would be A on the xbox 360 and X on the PS3, the one with the 2 wires coming from under the PCB.

Hey im in the process of modding my FS3 and my mom threw out the top board with the start select ect buttons and i was wondering if anyone knew the size of the buttons and maybe where i could get some type of replacements?
