Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

How far does the stick protrude after you cut the base? Is it enough to warrant modding the bottom cover to make it thicker?

trust me when i say it does not even fit in. try the 18mm sdm pushbuttons. i forgot to measure the radius and i got fuckeD UP

The original Buttons themselves are 12.20mm size.

Since the PCB is gone, I’d say just plug the holes up and drill holes to for 24mm buttons in the back.

I used to be in the fighting game scene and im just now returning, So you think this is the way to go? I was liking the size of the FS3. But i have been playing on HRAP 2s for some time now. Not sure if i just want to save myself the time and just order the HRAP3 or mod a FS3.

I read earlier in the thread that you might be able to replace the Sanwa Shaft with the Hori Shaft, saves you some cutting. But I have not means to confirm this myself. its on like page one or two of this thread.

I have a question. I bought HFS3 and I want to replace the artwork but not the buttons. I took out the screws at the top, but it seems like I just can’t get the top control panel off. Can anyone give me some tips?

you’ll have to desolder the buttons if you want to replace the art properly., unless your art has really large holes for the buttons

i guess it’s a dumb question but anyway:

i think i got terminals that were a little too big (metal part)… could i just squish the metal part that slides on the tab a bit to make it fit on the tabs?

Was going to replace the buttons on my Hori FS3 and, after reading just about every page of this post (well into the 50’s at least), I decided to do a quick double check post to get some confirmation before putting in an order. I wanted to replace the art on my buttons, so to my knowledge, that limits me to the Seimitsu buttons. I wanted to get the white ones, but they were only limited to Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Pushbuttons. It seems most people in tutorials or general modding/showing off their work listed ‘snap ins’ for their buttons, regardless of what brand name. The PS-14-KN’s seem to be much longer than the snap in options, so before I order them and start taking apart my fight stick, I was wondering if I’ll have any problems with these buttons. I saw a shot of them used in one mod that had the buttons plug into the PCB (well, soldered into the PCB, not literally plugged in) instead of using the QDs or soldering wires into the board. [image for reference]

Simply put, can someone give me a quick confirmation that I’ll be fine with these buttons on the Hori Fight Stick 3 (PS3 version if that matters)? Or should I just bite the bullet and get the Seimitsu PS-14-K 30mm Pushbutton snap in versions of the same buttons (though much more limited colour selections)? And if you have experience using them, how will I go about installing each? Am I correct in that I’ll just solder each button into the PCB like the above linked image shows? Will I have to modify my case or the holes beyond the simple dremeling that other mods suggested?

Thanks for any help on this. All parts will be purchased from Lizard Lick and that’s where I’m getting the model numbers for each set of buttons.

yes confirm, http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=136372&p=8320761&viewfull=1#post8320761

Well whatever Button you use, Sanwa or Seimitsu, there will be modification if you want to solder Microswitches to PCB like that.
Have to cut each Terminal of Microswitch in half-width.

oh god i got everything mounted

f***… i’m not sure if i burnt off the connection for the direction Right… the gold part lifted off and all i see is brown… I’m also having trouble wiring the harness i have on my jlf… the colors are not the same as the ones on the picture. I tried to do the corresponding colors but character in training mode kept going left, colors i have from top to bottom are: orange, green, black, red, yellow.

You got a Seimitsu Wire Harness.
That is why the colors are different.
Sanwa has Black as Ground, Seimitsu has Orange as Ground.

thank you so much…

is my Right direction contact screwed? it’s brown there because the gold/copper contact(?) lifted off… can i just put a wire through and solder it? :x

sorry if i sound stupid but i’m getting sadfaced

Ruined.

You will have to go to the Trace and solder onto that.
From where the Pad lifted off, you will see green Trace.
Scrape it off a little to expose the copper underneath, then solder there.

the JLF sits pretty high compared to the hori… Hori ball top is also a bit lighter… last two buttons are hori and they aren’t connected… button layout is standard(default) now

didn’t remove the original artwork sticker… should i have done it for some reason?

Yes.

thanks man.
