Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Anyone interested in a JLF ready to go into a HFS3? Modded and all? I have one from when I had one a while back (I still have posts in this thread with pics of it). I’ll sell it if someone wants it, pm me for pics.

Oh i know,my bad.but i just removed it, thanks for the suggestion though

Yea sure, how much?

Anyone have a proper custom art template for this? A friend is asking me to make art for their FS3 so I need one (or at least the dimensions plus position of the holes for the stick/buttons) so I can do it right.

Thanks to everyone on this thread. I modded my first stick after reading through this thread overe and over. It was my first soldering, desoldering, and dremmeling experience and I think I did a pretty ok job. Though I did kind of mess up the edges of the artwork but no biggie. The stick works fine, the buttons are all Sanwa and I mounted a JLF. Thanks again everyone for all the information. Feel free to comment on the stick.

Hello SRK peoples~ I have been lurking the threads for quite some time now reading alot on arcade sticks for the most part as I wanted my own stick … and of course wanted to personalize it :3 So thank you all for the helpfull information posted here as it enabled me to do that  here are some pics of my modding proccess and finished product :3 /bow

I suppose we will start with the guts … now at first I was terrified and thought this would be the hardest part but it was not! Here they are I think they look ok for my first time ~

Next up as you all know you have to file down those anoyying little tabs … well I forgot to buy the file to do this /)_(\ soo00ooo lucky for me I had this metal nail file lying around, Im not sure why someone would use a metal nail file on their nails I would think it would be very rigid and possibly not feels so good lol so its always just sat in my travel manicure set~ So go go revlon metal nail file for filing all the tabs AND the metal prongs on my buttons lol :X yes no heavy duty one was involved and this is possibly why i call this the hardest part for i got some cuts my hand and this hurt very much lol XP filing at fast as I can!

and comparison of the buttons Im not sure if anyone had to file buttons down like this. I checked in this forum before purchasing my buttons and it was posted that these are ok to use im sure or possibly I misunderstood becuase I am a n00b at stickmodding but the holes were to small XP so i filed down to little sharp points and luckily it fit good :3 was nice and snug xD

well After all the hard work cuts scrapes and hurting hands I have this really pretty stick which I would like to put some art on but for now it remains simple~ Im waiting to put art on until I get better at sf4 :X kinda motivation for me I guess you could say for some training ><;;

Thanks again for all the helpfull information

oh this is bfs MONSTER stick compared to mine >.> i think its funny his is going to EAT mine he helped me out mostly supervised to make sure i didnt kill or ruin my stick and was there playing some games so i could ask questions lol

oh I used Seimitsu LB-39 Clear Joystick Ball Top and Seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Pushbutton both in violet :3

I’ve been poking through this thread, can’t find any info on:

Loosening the resistance on the stick.

It feels pretty tight compared to the MadCatz, and I was wondering if there’s any way to decrease the resistance. I’m using too much force to move the stick around.

Any help would be kickass!

EDIT: Found a post that said just to lube up one part of the stick. Would a little WD-40 into the shaft do the trick?

Most people, from my understanding, want to tighten this stick, not loosen it. But before I start ranting, I’ll say this: the spring will loosen up with heavy play, so you might just want to leave it be!

With resistance issues, you might be having one of two problems. The stock hori stick’s spring might be too tight, or the microswitches might require more force to engage. To fix it, you can always replace the spring and the microswitches. In what way is it too tight? (Are the switches hard to push in, or does the spring pull against you too much when you’re holding in one direction or another?)

I’m going to presume that you’re having spring problems. I’ve read that the Stock Hori spring is a little tighter than a JLF’s spring, so you’re going to want something a little lighter. I know for a fact that the spring from the LS-32 is much lighter, but I found it to be too light! (You might like it, though.)

Be careful… WD-40 isn’t the best lube for anything other than door hinges. (: There’s a certain silicone lube you should use?you can read more about it from slagcoin’s section on smoothness. Also, I doubt the lube will do anything for your problem, but it’s worth a shot.

Simple mod, Sanwa JLF and OSBN-30s.

This stick is so nice now!

Stick Questions

Hello, well I recently got my first arcade stick, the HFS3. The buttons feel kinda cheap or something, am I right about this?
And since you guys know better, can you tell me which buttons from this list are the best? (which fit in the hori fight stick)
http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/arcadebuttons.php

For looks I was thinking this http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/products/translucentpushbuttons.htm white with green light, if they fit and are good.

As for the stick itself, is the original stick that came with it quality? Or better off changing that too?

which of these is the best that fits in the hori without me having to cut things up? (other than the wires)
http://www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk/arcadejoysticks.php

Thanks in advance. Hoping to make something more or less like this:

the sanwa jlf will be fine but u will have to cut the base because the shaft will hit and you will have to drill holes in the restrictor gate i think thats it for the joysticks. as for the buttons you will need to file down the holes and solder in wires to fit new buttons. it sounds challenging but when u start, it will be very fun

Sorry to be a n00b, but i’ll have to cut the base of the stick or the frame of the hori?

And which of those jlfs is the best to get for modding the hori?

Thanks again

the big steel metal plate will make contact with the bottom of the shaft as you will see in the picture

http://lizardlick.com/images/for_sale/joysticks/jlf_tp_8t.jpg where the flathead screwdriver fits to loosen the ball handle and that is a very good stick to get it is a jlf. all jlf are the same with wotever codes they are just accesories dont worry u wont use any accessories, you wont be wrong with any jlf

many people grind the big steel baseplate the first thing u take off, and the bottom of the shaft where the flathead screwdriver goes. its up to you really, most people just grind the baseplate tho

Ahh ok, got it. Thanks a lot man. When its complete i shall post a picture, not sure exactly when that will be though, but hopefully soon.

ok so ive fried the pcb and stupidly threw the buttons away for start select ect and i was wondering if these would fit in the holes as replacements

from lizardlicks Sanwa SDM-20 Pushbutton

Does not without modify.

soo jdm do u know anything that i can use as a replacement or maybe even just the hole size

Nice. I mean just wow! I can’t wait until my stick comes in. I can’t wait to start modding. You guys do it so awesome. I mean great jobs everyone.
