Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

besides fitting. i can make it work with it?? sorry for being such a noob at this but just wan to know before i start on my stick

So to dual mod the FS3 you have to switch out the original PCB in it? Is there any specific reason why? (No common ground perhaps?) I kinda want to dual mod my FS3 so I can use it with my xbox as well. I know I will need a chuutlu (or w/e it calls), a xbox 360 wired PCB. Honestly I’m not thinking about switching my buttons. I think hori buttons are sensitive enough lol. I was wondering if I could just use the original PCB then solder wires to connect it to the 360 PCB

You can dual mod with the original PCB.

Could someone post me a diagram to dual mod with original PCB? I’m not sure how to connect the USB cable.

Is the art in sticker form? Or is it something else?

Here are the diagrams and links to the threads that helped me dual mod my HFS3. I kinda typo on my previous post, but this was my first dual mod. If your going to attempt this be careful soldering the wire to the start select/back points. I almost lost my start button doing this and had to find an alternative spot to get the start button.

This is overall look on how your pcbs are going to be connected.

This is for the HFS3 pcb diagram. I found out that my HFS3 pcb is different then Bomberman for the signal and grounds for some of the buttons. You can somewhat see the difference in my previous post picture. The pcb is flipped in that picture.

This is for the Xbox 360 pcb. Great thread on padhacking 360 controller with triggers.

I tried the laminate with the sticky back. I didn’t like the bubbles and not being able to cut to the edge of it or the art will come out. For my art I had it printed at staples on super heavy paper. I used double sided tape for the art to the top metal panel. I cut, drill, and sanded plexiglass to size of the HFS3. Its not perfect, but if you look carefully at the edges you and see a little bit of overhang. The Sanwa snap in button is the only thing holding it down. No issues with it so far and looks nice.

Forgot some extra info.
The original HFS3 pcb is also connected to another smaller pcb with the start, select, and etc. I had to extend the lines from them to get the HFS3 pcb to be in that position for the extra room of the 360 pcb. It might be a tighter fit, but I think it could be possible to fit the 360 pcb in it without extending it like I did.

I searched through the thread but I found nothing on this, so here goes…

I want to use the original PCB for my FS3 mod, but I don’t have anything to protect it from the metal bottom. I read that I can use PCB feet to help mount it. My question is, how do I use the feet?

basically you are trying to keep the pcb for damage that could be caused by short circuiting on the metal panel. the “feet” would be used to keep the pcb raised and ensuring that the bottom side of the pcb (side with all the solder) never touches it while the controller is on

I used electrical tape on the metal bottom on the inside, just in case the pcb touches the metal bottom plate.

I see. That makes sense. So how do I mount the feet? Would I have to drill holes into the PCB? I’m kind of afraid of damaging it

Here’s my FS3. I prefer to use my custom sticks when I’m at home but I needed something portable. I decided to mod an FS3 because of its size and because of the fact that I had spare parts lying around (pink buttons). The FS3 uses omron switches for the hori joystick, so I decided to save myself some time and leave those in and use the jlf pivot & shaft etc. I’ll probably dual mod this stick sometime soon.

THAI>>>

can you please document when you dual mod your stick??

im planning to mod my stick too. change buttons and new artwork but i have no idea on how to do it. what equipment do i need to just change to new buttons??

Looks good Thai. The clips attached to the buttons - do you know the technical name for them? Searching for some myself but a little lost

rapturedj: I didn’t really document my fs3 mod, since i knew what i needed to do. But I can disassemble the stick and show you what’s needed to be done. I’ll pm you the info later tonight. EDIT: Opps, I misread your question. Yes I will document my dual mod, waiting on MC cthulhu atm.

furiousapple: Would you happen to be talking about the quick disconnects?.110 female quick disconnects

Ah awsome thanks. In my mind they looked more like clips of some sort :s

Full re-done writeup and photo documentation in a week or so… sorry for the wait guys! But I’m finally getting another one to mod!

can you still do it show me how its done?? im a big noob to this but i really want to get this done. thanks!!!

First stick

I just got my buttons from lizardlick.com I’m very happy with my experience with them. This will be my first custom arcade stick. Still a work in progress. This thread really helped me, PS dremeling was easier than I thought!!!

Oh and the mini PCB wires have been ripped off from the previous owner, how do I get it to work on a cthulu? Do I just solder a wire back on the ripped part? Here are some pictures…

I got one in the mail today, and I just soldered directly to the points like you’re suggesting. One thing to note is that the ground for the Home button does not trace back to the ground for the Start and Select, rather it’s liked to the ground for the Turbo. You can either bridge the Home button’s ground to the Start and Select ground, or do what I did and just have a separate ground wire running from the Home button.

Confirmation

I read on another forum that the stock micro switches are the same as the JLF. If this is true if I just swap out the parts for a JLF octagonal and JLF shaft, spring, etc. wouldn’t it more or less be a JLF and perhaps fit better in the case?

My HSF3’s are being shipped to me so I can’t really confirm any of this atm.

Sorry if this was already addressed/asked earlier in this thread… I’ve read through about 20 or 30 pages and haven’t gotten my answer and reading through all 58 pages is very time consuming…
