Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

i love you it worked!!!

LOL your welcome

which stick will fit without any modding to the stick area?

Will a JLF/LS-32 spring help improve the performance of the stock Hori stick in terms of deflection? The one I have is very loose and deflects like mad.

EDIT: I’ve read Sanwa gate mods work well with the stock Hori stick with a bit of drilling, but is there any way the LS-33/55/56 gates fit on the stock Hori stick? Their gates seem to be secured with screws that go through holes of the microswitches, much like the Hori stick.

full tutorial please?

Hey guys,
I can’t really read through all 53 pages of this thread. did anyone ever actually make a full tutorial for me to read for this mod? Can someone please post the link? thanks a lot

My med punch gave out on my stick, and I want to fully mod it up with the nice sanwa/seimitsu stuff.

If you notice my first post, the second post RIGHT AFTER the OP, I do a full writeup… but I’m going to add some new revisions to make the FS3 more easily functional using a Hori shaft and a having a restrictor gate fit with the long bolts. I havent read through the whole thread but I will soon edit my original post with pictures and new revisions that I did to make the FS3 more easily assembled post-mod with no dremeling on the plate and stick shaft. I think itd be way helpful for the man who doesnt want to read EVERYTHING. LOL. If anyone has any questions, shoot me a PM. Since SFIV came out, I’ve been on SRK every day…

Happy modding,

Do anybody know how 2 put in a new usb cord?

Another question, I bought one of these off craigslist and the previous owner ripped the cords of the guide board so there’s still wires on it. Do I desolder it and put new wires in? If so does anyone have a wiring diagram for it? Thanks

ive heard these pcbs arent the best. But out of all the sticks ive modded i havent gotten a fs3 with a fried pcb. But i have seen ALOT of the ex2’s pcbs go bad. You should get a toddles board, unless you just wanna use what you have. If anything, use the fs3 pcb, once it goes out you can always get a cthulhu

My cable is screwed and I’m just about to replace it with a new one. Do I really need to solder all the buttons just to replace the cable?

do any clear pushbuttons fit in it?? all ive seen are the seimitsu PS-14-KN 30mm Pushbuttons.
also, how do i change the joystick ball top?? thank you!!

You only see Seimitsu PS-14-KN used because PS-14-K are no longer produced.
No more Snap-in, only Screw-in.

Only Seimitsu have Clear Buttons.
They make Buttons with Clear Plunger too.
And Sanwa made Buttons with Clear Plunger very long ago.

Replacing the Ball Top is super easy.
You see the notch at end of Joystick Shaft when you look inside?
Use a flathead screwdriver in that notch to hold in place while you twist off Ball Top.

That is all do.
Then twist on your new Ball Top.

This is exactly how i do it.
But just so people know, if you want to replace the ball top but dont want to open up your stick theres a way. Just grab a napkin put it around the stick shaft, then hold the shaft with a pair of pliers, then twist the ball off while holding the shaft. The napkin is used to prevent scratches/scrapes to the shaft.
Just wanted to hook some lazy people like myself up with a tip.

I still ended up scratching my sticks when I tried this.

A question with the default stick…

Is it suppose to be this resistant? I haven’t noticed in the beginning when I used it, but it is extremely resistant and requires a lot of force for me to move it around…

I’m thinking of modding it to make it much smoother and easier to use (The ones at my local arcade are traditional Japanese cabinets, and they are extremely easy to move), but if there is something I could do without having to buy all the stuff then I would certainly go in that direction.

I had a similar problem. I’m not actually sure of the name of the specific part of the stick. But, it’s a hemispherical plastic part on the shaft. It’s the last thing that comes off of it when you take it apart. Lube that up.

do any of the clear ball tops work on the hori stick?? dont feel like change to a sanwa when i feel comfortable with the hori. so do any of the clear buttons fit on this stick or is ittoo small??

Fit, yes.

My Dual Mod HFS3.

and the nightmares of the inside the HFS3 beast. I thought about organizing the wires, but its my first mod and i wanted to get back to playing.
Everything fits in nicely. Nothing had to be pushed and crammed in while closing the back plate.
Things I’ve learned. Be patients and flux is your friend.

I would also like to thank everyone for all the information shared in the tech talk forums.
Searching and reading posts helped me with this mod. Happy Modding.
