Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Can someone please direct me to the page that has some info on installing a Seimitsu LS56 in a fs3. Ive played on the ls56 but have yet to install one yet. So i want to throw one in a fs3 i have laying around. Just wanna see what all is involved. Hopefully i dont have to grind too much plastic away for this install.
thanks in advance

There are many ways you can install Joystick into Case.

Here, Twinniss installed Seimitsu LS-56 directly to Metal Panel.

Here, Pensuke installed Seimitsu LS-33 to the plastic of Case.

They both the same way that could be done with Sanwa JLF.
And both of those ways can be done on Seimitsu.

nice, thanks jdm. I figured it would still pretty much be the same thing. Just wanted to make sure

So I just finished moddng my Wii Hori Fighting stick with a sanwa jlf and buttons… It feels nice but I find the stick to be way too high and it throws me off after I use my TE for a long time. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

It should feel the same if you mounted the joystick correctly. From metal panel to the start of the balltop threading of the jlf shaft it should be 23-24mm. if its not then the stick isnt mounted correctly

stick mounting alternative

If for some reason you dont want to remove the art from your fs3 (in my case, it was the hori wii stick - I enjoyed the wii-like asthetic and didnt want to redo the art,) and dont mind the sorta permanent aspect of this installation (A dremel could probably deal with that - its a 40 dollar stick you’re working with in any case), you might want to consider an epoxy plastic bonder. I mounted an ls-33 with it, and after setting for a day, its solid as a rock.

One of my friend ordered a Hori Fighting Stick 3 and I just wanted to know if soldering was required if you wanted to change the buttons?

Thanks

Yes.

hey,i want to close the 2 button holes on the right on my fs3. what possibilities do i have other then button plugs?
sorry if this has allready been asked and answered!

malgani- look at the first 2 pages of this thread. Someone used jb weld and metal

Yea, soldering is required for the FS3, unless of course you get rid of the pcb all together and swap in a cthulu. Soldering’s not that bad. Just take your time.

Even if get rid of Hori PCB, have to still unsolder the Buttons off in the first place.

Hello everyone. In a month or two, once I get the money, I’m going to try my hand at modding sticks with the goal of selling them to friends and whatnot and just doing it for fun. I figured an easy project to start with would be the Hori Fighting Stick 3 (I have a PS3 and most of my fighting game friends do, too.) I’m sure it has been mentioned at some point on this thread and excuse me for asking, but what sticks and buttons are compatible with the FS3? I have plenty of bookmarks for where to buy and how to mod, but I’ve googled what’s compatible/can fit and I haven’t found anything on it. Also, is a modded FS3 better than a stock HRAP3?

Extremely ultra magna shin noob question here.

This is my first mod. I read up the guide, but wanted to know what the best place was to get the wires I need for the buttons. I didn’t find any on Lizardlick, I did find fasteners though.

Also, what buttons are easier to put on, Senwa or Seimitsu?

I used this wire on my stick mods thus far and I absolutely love it.

Snap ins should be pretty much they same regardless of Sanwa or Seimitsu. I found Seimitsu screwins to require the least amount of sanding and grunt work to get in.

Thanks for the quick reply, I actually have one last question.
I plan on getting a Seimitsu LB-39 top, right now I don’t have the cash to get a new stick, at least until I get paid next week. But I wanted to test out the stock stick before buying a new one anyway.

My question is;
Will the Seimitsu LB-39 top fit on the stock stick? Or will I need one of those screw adapters for it to fit in?

Should fit…

Hori stock ball handles have the same screw size as the Sanwa and Seimitsu (regular size and 35mm bubble) ball handles do. Everybody that’s been around a month and read the topics or parts lists on the vendor websites knows by now that Sanwa and Seimitsu ball handles are interchangeable.

I’ve put the red Hori T5 ball handles on JLFs and they fit fine. The same Hori shaft with the top screw is probably used on the Fighting Sticks.

Thanks.
So I think I’ve got everything set.
Wires, Desoldering iron, Soldering iron, FS3, 8 Sanwa OBSF-30’s, 16 .110 quick connects, bubbletop to use with stock stick. The artwork I’ll have done later at Kinkos. I have a PDF ready, it’s just the cutting I know I’ll have trouble with since I suck at precision cutting. Especially with something laminated, since trimming too much will separate the edges of the paper from the lamination, causing it to curl up eventually. But I’ll try to make do.

Am I missing anything so far? I’m not modding the stick yet. Are Senwa screw ins better to put into this, or push ins? Though, I’d imagine there’s hardly any difference in terms difficulty of putting the two in. You still have to sand the tabs off either way.

Oh, and I’ve seen problems people have had with short circuiting from the pcb touching the bottom metal plate. I plan to coat the bottom plate with electrical tape when I get it. Would anyone care to recommend an easier fix? Preferably one that doesn’t waste my whole roll of tape.

Don’t coat the bottom with electrical tape – obtain or construct standoffs instead (like what keeps a computer motherboard off the case).

What’s the advantage? Wouldn’t that just take up more space inside?

Also I used duct tape.
