Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

anyone know what size the start, select etc button size is for the top buttons?? there so dull !

Plannin on getting a hori fighting stick 3 for the circuit board to mod into a custom built case, question about swapping out the buttons… could i just cut the wire, crimp a quick disconnect onto it, and put in sanwa or seimitsu buttons? Probably gonna go with clear seimitsu’s with led’s inside to light up :shy:

Secondly, is it hard to swap out the existing stick for a sanwa one?

thanks

Those little buttons on top are HORI buttons. Very unlikely you will be able to find other vendors selling the same type and size buttons to replace them. Others have painted them with different colors or art on them if you find them to be dull.

FS3’s PCB wires for the joystick portion will not be of usable length straight out of the box. You need either solder new longer wires directly from the PCB or lengthen the existing wires for use in a custom box. As for the buttons, for sure you need to add wires yourself. FS3’s buttons are soldered directly to the PCB, so no existing wires to use at all.

For instruction to swap out existing Hori stick, you can use my guidesas a reference. Will it be hard, it’s sorta relative, if you are comfortable tinkering things using tools, then its pretty straight forward, otherwise it could be considered fairly difficult depending on your comfort level with tools and electronics.

Thanks a lot, I myself love to tinker but cannot solder, but my brother is a mechanic who knows how to wire and solder so he’s helping me out a lot with whatever I need help with… I’ve got all the necessary tools, and I’m always looking for something new to mess with… Now i just need to get my hands on a hori since they seem to be sold out everywhere, along with the madcatz SF stick also… The only ones available online seem to be overpriced on ebay… like 120 + shipping, etc. etc.

I’ll check out the guides, thanks for that info, thanks again

here’s my mod of FS3 still waiting for my sanwa buttons to arrive. I ordered seimitsu as well the clear …and im gonna see which one is better so far what i did was solder the PCB for easy replacement and put some artwork.
I have couple artwork…i have BATMAN, AKUMA, SOLID SNAKE but i chose ABEL.

That is cool art work for Abel. Where did you get it printed out at? I have my artwork but don’t know what size to print it out for my HFS3.

search under the template section

most ppl give the template and its ok. But when i used their template is actually bigger than supposed to…the size i used was 300x1800 or 10inch x 6inch it was perfect size for me just little margin to cut the art off. i tried the 2500x1333 it was little small so its your choice i got two printed size just to be sure…

also i got mine printed at Staples…coz kinkos sux they said its copyrighted…oh well go to some other printing area like graphic printer shop theyll do it. and i got mine laminated and bought the adhesive spray but i didnt stick mine yet if you look i put the screws on top so i can replace image anytime.

I love the color! I hope I can do that too…

Does Sanwa Joystick 4/8 Way JLW-UM-8 (Bat) fit in? This is the cheapest one I found that’s sanwa. I might just change the bat to Seimitsu clear top if possible.

Thank you!

I’m pretty sure the Sanwa JLW-UM-8 Bat Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way will fit…but ofcourse minor or maybe a bit modding will be needed…anything is possible if you have the right tools. As for me i didn’t change the hori stick and works out great for me…it all depends on the user…if its suit your style why change it…i play on arcade and at home doesnt feel any difference. I can still pull the moves i needed.
prolly replace it if it breaks …i like my stick a little tight aka stiff i dont like it loose so the hori stick is fine and seimitsu is my style of buttons.

hi guys,

I’m in the middle of modding my FS. my first 6 buttons are sanwas but i wanted to keep my other 2 buttons (since they’ll mostly go unused no need to spend the extra $). should i just solder the 2 buttons back to the PCB? seems like it would be too much weight on just 2 joints.

I finished the re-wiring of an older stick mod I’ve done. After such great results with my my latest mod, I wasn’t happy with the quality of this one, so I disassembled and de-soldered and snipped everything out, and re-did this one to my (new) higher standards. This has a JLF stick with a tighter LS-55 spring, along with OBSF-30 buttons.

I’m waiting on OBSF buttons to be sold widely again before I complete them - I intend on putting green plungers into the white rims for a unique look that matches well with the white top. I replaced the bottom metal plate with a lami-flex plexiglass plate I cut and shaped myself. I need to do a few things to finish that up as well, such as put on some rubber feet and plastic washers. All said, I am very happy with it so far.

i personally think u can put anything in there… just use a dremel. n dremel out the plastic . where u screw in the stick… n make it flat. so u can mount the sanwa stick.

faux123 has a site where he has a tutorial. for it.

I’m looking for the wiring Diagram for the JLF wiring harness. I know it’s been posted in this thread before, but I just cannot find it. Can someone please post the link to the diagrams that show the harness in all 4 positions?

Is this what you’re looking for? I’ts on lizard lick’s website under the JLF entry, "more information"

I think that should work. Thanks!

What I was originally talking about was all the microswitches were labeled with a direction aswell. So in that picture: green-right, red-down, orange-up, yellow-left?

whats up everyone. my gf just got me the fs3 so im excited about modding this. but i have no clue on anything. just reading here and there. So my question is for everyone, how hard did you find this when you did it the first time. I have no knowledge on soldering or anything. i know theres youtube videos, which i will be studying. thanks in advance!!!

my chunli template

I’m the guy with ABEL template and i decided to make another template to be unique that nobody have lol :stuck_out_tongue: coz abel is just a default image heres a template i made with photoshop…i have couple others if you guys want some let me know ill post it here or you can request some ill make it…

Nice. I was always thinking of artwork Ideas for this stick, but the top doesn’t seem big enough to fit anything without it being totally trashed by the buttons, and stick. You placed that very well on there though.

thanks…i tried :stuck_out_tongue:
