Had some problems at the start cos everytime I used down on the joystick it activated the home button. I think the solder points went through my electrical tape to the metal plate so I just put more it seemed to fix it. I ended up not needing to sand down the bottom or the stick it just fit really well for some reason.
Btw if anyone wants me to search up this entire thread and find all the useful info and make a new thread with all that info(with some example pics as well). Just post up and i’ll find time to do that. Or you can do it yourself.
@areyouken: thats cool - was just wondering thats all i’d be afraid that my wires/soldering would snap/break off, cos the wires i’ve got are quite thin.
@Twinniss: that’s a nice setup you got there clean. Also, if you are intending on making a new thread with step-by-step directions (with pics for most parts), I’m sure there will be a lot of noobs (like myself) who will be grately appreciative. I’ve gone through this thread a couple of times and I still don’t see a complete step-by-step tutorial with pics as of yet. Just parts here and there.
So I don’t plan on mounting my PCB to anything, and just soldering the wires to the back of the PCB. Would putting down some electrical tape on the bottom plate prevent PCB from shorting out if it were to make contact with the metal Plate?
It’s worked for me so far but I had to put two layers of electrical tape cos the pointy bits of the soldered wire still went through and touched the metal plate.
I just printed it at Officeworks then got it laminated there. I laminated it before I cut it to the shape of the plate so it does have open edges. So far it hasn’t been a problem but I heard it could start to peel.
I used a spray adhesive from Bostik to stick it on the plate, I don’t recommend the Bostik brand its a bit messy go for 3M brand I heard its much more better.
I recommend printing it yourself if you have a good colour printer on paper with a matte finish then cutting it to the size of the front plate then getting it laminated. I was on a budget that’s why I used that option. I asked around and all I could find was that a vinyl sticker was the way to go but it cost around $60~$70AUD from the quotes I got which was too much. I’m in Sydney though I don’t know if you can find other places in the other states that have better options.
It depends on the type of mod involved. It could be as short as couple of hours to a few days. I have done simple mods to total conversion mods, so it really depend on how much you want to mod your stick. There are lots of good information here on the forum or you can check my site where I give a break down of the material cost and hours I spent for each type of mod.
