Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

Hey, I need some help doing the Sanwa JLF-TP-8T mod. What parts do I need to grind for it to fit properly?

I just ordered the sanwa jlf, buttons, octagonal restrictor, and a battop w/ adapter for jlf. I will be taking lots of pics and videos while doing these mods.

Hey neemo6, what’s the adapter for?

Adapter is to use a bat top on a jlf stick.

okay, anyone know how to remove the original stick art on one of these, i swear its impossible to peel off

edit:nvm got it off, anyways, ill be posting an ls-56 mod soon

I’m considering modding my FS3 in the near future. The only pack of various colored wire come in 24AWG standard or Stranded. I was hoping to use 24AWG stranded anyway, but the thing is, most disconnects only go to 22awg. Can I use 24awg in a 22awg disconnect in any way?

There does seem to be somewhere I could get something for 24AWG but it doesn’t look like a site giving to taking such a small order. http://www.mcmaster.com/#about-quick-disconnect-terminals/=oy02l

Any advice?

Do i need to grind the Sanwa JLF-TP-8T (Joystick)? I’m asking this becasue Faux123 didn’t seem to grind his but some people have.

Ragnarok: check with slagcoin for places to get wire (Or any of the stick builders).

grafik: no, instead you can make a small bump on the bottom panel

K, thanks! Also, which ball top fits on the Hori FS3 stock shaft? Thanks.

I’m trying to mount a LS-33 into an FS3 and I’ve been reading through this thread for a while. Is there a way to mount it in without making an unsightly bump on the bottom plate? Which would be the best or easiest way to achieve this?

I think you can mount that plate without doing any modifications and it should fit fine. Just make sure you sand your bottom hfs3 plate so the stick doesn’t scrape the bottom.

As for the stock hfs3 shaft does it fit the balltops on lizardlick.com? If so which one(s)?

I have modded 2 Hori Fighting Sticks, and I have gone 2 different paths. In the end there are very little performance differences between the 2 methods I used. This is a personal choice question.

Mod #1: (Hori EX2 FS for Xbox 360)
I used 100% sanwa buttons and I have a Hybrid joystick with mostly sanwas. The ball top is stock Hori, the shaft is stock hori, the white hemispherical thingy is from Sanwa JLF, the springs is Sanwa JLF + LS 33 (stock spring is too loose), the Spring holder is Hori, the stick actuator is Hori, the microswitches are Happ Cherries and finally the gate is Sanwa Octogate. With this combination you DO NOT need to modify the bottom plate at all because Hori shaft fits Hori case perfectly of course.

Mod #2: (Wii FS to PS3 wireless total conversion)

This one is 100% Sanwa everything.

Here’s the modified back plate:

A hole was made and it is now covered with a clear hard plastic with tape (yeah its ghetto but I don’t really care, does not make any difference in performance).

I can solder the OBSF-30 buttons right onto the PCB without a wire in between right?

you have to bend the contacts a little bit to fit it with the pcb … i think there were a few pictures in this thread

Hi there! Great modification!

Some question, am i able to use Hori ball and shaft on Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y?

I’m thinking of changing my HFS3 Stick to SANWA JLF, Buttons to OBSF30.

Buttons i have no issue doing the soldering… but have some problem on the stick…

Able to show pics with some marks or circles telling us where to cut and drill? for the stick?

BTW, don’t quote images. Mods here are not happy about it.

Yes, you can use the Hori Ball and Shaft on the Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y as in my Mod #1.

To make the mark is easy. Just install the **UNMODIFIED **Sanwa stick in there, close the bottom plate and just wiggle the sanwa stick in circular motion you will **GRIND **the bottom plate by default. Make sure you wiggle the stick hard and in circular motion, it will make a nice circular mark to tell you exactly where to cut it if you decide to cut a hole or thin out that particular area (I recommend making a hole).

hey thanks for the reminder…

Other than the hole on the bottom~…

Is there any other modification such as drilling or grinding required to be done on Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y before installing it on HFS3??

if yes, able to show the exact part to grind or drill?

OK, I red lined a few of my photos:

Top of the joystick, this is where the JLF will mate with the Hori base. You will need to drill the holes I highlighted in red with either 1/4" or 5/16" drill. Make sure you don’t drill all the way through!!! You just need to make them big enough so you can put the JLF base flush to the Hori mounting area.

Bottom of the stick, this is where the microswitches and gates mate to the JLF. Use an exacto knife and cut the protruding plastic tab flush to the rest of the base.

bottom view:

Side view show how to cut it.

Thanks alot!!! The pictures are really helpful!

so conclusion is, i just need to drill 4slightly bigger hole for the JLF base flash to mount on the hori mounting area.

den Cut out the protruding plastic tab flush from the 4sides?

What if I only choose to tighten up my joystick with only the 4 inner holes. Is that enough?
