Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

your question was answered back on the last page with that photo posted.

the hori board is common ground. you need to wire the black wire from the jlf harness to ANY ground point.

the other colors depend on how you orient the microswitches.

I just got done modding a FS3 to all Sanwa parts for a friend. I used a suggestion that another user made about using a spacer to make the JLF fit without removing the mounting points and altering the height.
HD Remix is dang fun with this stick now!
I’ll post pics of it in a few days.

Very first mod complete! Just got finished modding my FS3 with a JLF and 6 Sanwa buttons! I’ll post pics if I find a digital camera.:wgrin:

Lemme say thanks to everybody who posted in this thread, I read it like 20 times over before doing mine. Special thanks to NotANoob b/c I used his stick mounting solution, Kamirasenken b/c I followed his guide of what to do in general, and Canto for explaining which wires in the JLF harness do what.

So I am almost done with my custom HSF3, the last problem I am running into is the artwork paper.

I already have the design but I am having a hard time trying to locate a good material/paper to stick on top of the metal plate. any ideas?

i bought a fs3 today. i was wondering if it’s possible to modify a fs3 with an early version of 360 controller?

This is my idea.

  1. desolder hori board.
  2. wire an early version of 360 controler to the hori board
  3. wire the joystick and buttons to the 360 controller
  4. rewire the usb cable on the hori board to connect both the xbox 360 controller and the hori board with a switch to change between ps3/360 console.

is this doable?

Behold the pic!

I was originally going to fill the two rightmost buttonholes, but I decided I would keep 2 of the Hori buttons there just in case I would need the other two shoulder buttons for menus or something. I’m planning on eventually painting the top plate, but overall I’m really satisfied!:lovin:

ReksZ, wouldn’t printing some artwork be easier and look better than painting it? Lami-label would protect the artwork and stick it to the metal plate pretty easily.

Here’s mine:

lol i have that same psx to cube/xbox adapter.

I think it has lag though (someone said so in controller/adapter thread i think)D:

wait wtf. did you just swap out the microswitchs. is it better or worse or just the same(the stick part)

Reksz, pics of insides please?

i put i sanwa buttons. it so much better than stock. i didnt notice any lag. i have 3 different ps2 to xbox adapters. i wonder what app i can use to test lag on the xbox

if you really really want to, you can mod the xbox end into usb, break out xbcd drivers and test lag from there.

otherwise its using Markman methods

btw how are you getting the measurements for the stick art?

hey guys just curious if any of you found a method to mount the pcb board? As in people who have gone to wired w/ quick disconnects as opposed to stock? let me know!
-Tom

i like that color scheme

TDeneka: Some people people cut and bend the prongs to make it fit (This is without QDs

Otherwise it was putting electric tape on the bottom

Okay that ps1->xbox/gamecube adapter does have some issues. I played with it for while longer and noticed some lag. I haven’t tested it with the gamecube yet though, only xbox.

As for the art. I scanned in the metal plate. Then used Photoshop to create a template mask. Then I put the art work underneath the template layer and then printed it to scale with Photoshop. I stuck it on the metal plate and used it as a guide to cut.

cool, i guess electrical tape it is. it’s not like i am gonna open it up again after i do this mod anyway.

Let me get this straight…When I print my art it needs to be 34 inches long and 18 inches high? I havent used my stick in a while but iirc its not this big?

yeah, i noticed the same thing, the real size is about 798 pixels(width) and 426(height). somewhere around 11.08"*5.91"

hey guys, i just ran into some sort of problem that worries me, well not really. But has anyone else have had their stock stick like sort of pop? it makes a weird ass noise, and this makes me upset that i didn’t order a sanwa stick with my buttons.
Also, i have read that some of the sticks just randomly die… anyone have this issue?
Damn you hori!
I might end up getting a custom stick made anyways, who knows.

Will the JLF-TP-8Y stick fit without modification? How about OBSF-30 buttons?
