Modding the Hori Fighting Stick 3

I just put some screwins into a HF3 and they did not fit so I had to dremel a little not much but If I was going to do it agian I’d just settle for different colors so I could just put in some snapins real quick.

Did I miss something?

Yeah, I’m talking about the Seimitsu ones.

Thanks for the advice. From what I read, the fighting stick 3 needs a bit of dremeling with either button type.

The 26 or 27 comment is him being clever and guessing at my age from my user name. Har Har ^^;

thanks for the help ill try that asap

ok. i admitt now im a complete newb when it comes to this… i just opened up my fighting stick 3, and i decided i want to completely overhaul this thing. hopefully i can add detailed pictures to my future posts (when i figure out how to put pictures in my posts… some help here guys). i was on the lizard stick amusement site and i was checking out my options. i know now that rather than working with a pcb, i want to add quick disconnects to all my buttons and this sexy thing http://lizardlick.com/images/for_sale/joysticks/jlw_um_8.jpg. however i need some help. how do i get started? how do i install quick disconnects to my buttons? how do i finish the wiring? where would i get all the necessary tools and materials? well you see what im leading on. some help here guys? some pictures and detailed help would really help.

from my last post this would make my life easier. if you can provide detailed pictures for a newb like me on how to do this that would really save my life (and money lol).

also. when i tried to switch the O button (remember thats why i brought the question up way above) and R2 button on my fighting stick 3 using the solder method and not using the solder vacuum, and that made no difference. could it be because i was using a used soldering iron with a bunch of shit on it rather than using a new one? any help would be much appreciated.

If you switched them and it still doesn’t work, either the pcb is broken, or you didn’t solder correctly. Take pictures of your work. Maybe one of us can see what’s wrong.

As long as the soldering iron melts the solder and you’re able to take out the buttons and whatnot. It’s working just fine.

Also, if you need help with soldering and stuff, just look for tutorials and youtube videos.

ok ill add pictures… but how do i even do that in my posts??? lol, sorry for my newbness.

now as far as my options are concerned, im thinking of buying the sanwa 30mm buttons as a replacement… i remember you mentioning something earlier about soldering the quick disconnect wires to the pcb… some help on how to do that?

check to see if the ground on that button on the pcb side is dead.

hold the button down and grab some wire. Connect the ground of that button to a different button that is working

If it is working then, you just need to solder the wire connecting the two grounds.
Hori is bad when it came to making sure the ground stayed working.

Check the “Wire connects and terminals” section near the bottom. You’ll need a crimping tool and female quick disconnects (.110). You can get the quick disconnects on ebay since most electronics stores don’t carry them.

You’ll also need to dremel/file those metal tabs down on that top panel before you can put in sanwas

And what the hell is that purple stuff on that soldering iron? lol

allrighty

ok so before i get started heres what i understood so far…

1: replace solder
2: dremel down the newly replaced clean tabs on the board
3: solder quick disconnects to wires
4: place disconnects on new buttons
5: solder other end of the wires on the new buttons to the dremeled down tabs on the pcb?

You got it half right? lol

As long as your soldering iron works, nothing needs to be replaced. I was just curious as to what that purple stuff was.

The tabs I’m referring to are in this pic. The 2 tabs in each of the button holes You need to file/dremel those down before you can fit sanwa buttons in them.

You don’t need to solder quick disconnects to the wire, however, it does guarantee your wires won’t slip out of them (though they shouldn’t if you crimp them right).

You solder the other end of the wires to where the old buttons’ prongs used to be soldered to.

alright, thank you so much for your help and patience. im have some money now and i already ordered the buttons. now i have to wait for it and then ill place them in. in the meantime ill do my college work. again, thank you so much for your help and patience. ill keep you posted with future pics on whether it was a success or not.

rgr that

Hopefully someone can help me with my FS3.

Here’s my problem:

My SC4 FS3 would intermittently not respond to button and joystick inputs. This happened for a few days. Now it doesn’t respond at all and is not recognized by my PS3.

I don’t see any cracks on the casing, PCB or anything because sometimes I do get a little “excited” when I lose a match from time to time where I hit the buttons pretty hard in frustration…:arazz:

A couple of questions:

If say one of the solder contacts is broken off or bad, would the whole joystick not function or just that particular button or joystick input? I was thinking of maybe desoldering the button contacts and then resoldering them. Would that help at all?

Maybe this is a problem with the PCB as a whole since the stick won’t work at all–maybe the USB connection to the PCB is bad, ie not getting power?

Any thoughts? I would really appreciate the help.

Hello eveyrone great thread and hopeuflly u can help me.
for my fs3 for the buttons on the top row i was wondering how i would go about putting that on a psx pcb.

i figured that i could just use the pins that they had orginaly and just put the corrisponding wires to those pins

One time this happened to me but it was my kitty chewing through the cord so maybe try inspecting the cord I doubt thats the problem but you never know.
