I read in another thread here on SRK that screw in buttons might fit Hori sticks without enlarging the holes. Is that true? Which brand of screw-in buttons have a smaller nut, Sanwa or Seimitsu? (In other words, which ones can be put the closest together?)
seimitsu but you could also use seimitsu nuts on sanwa buttons if you wanted to.
Okay !
So as soon as I got my parts in the morning I started working on my HFS3.
I don’t have a soldering iron, but I do have a dremel, so I decided to do the stick ( Sanwa JLF ) ! After about an hour and a half and some minor issues… I finally got it in… check it out…

Not bad for the first time I’ve ever used a dremel huh ? lol
Tomorrow I’ll be buying a soldering iron, desoldering bulb, and paint materials.
Edit:
Guys, I was testing out the stick and when I pushed it a little hard the whole stick placement came out. It seems somehow that I’ve made the holes too big and the screws fall through it now. I think I had a misunderstanding on how to correctly dremmel the areas. I was reading the Wii stick guide and I saw that he just bore a hole through it all and the screws are inside of the holes… so I did the same and goofed up.
How would I be able to fix it? I was thinking of going to a local hardware store and looking for screws that are the same size but have a bigger head… ? Any ideas?
Okay, went to a hardware store and got washers so now the stick sits perfect.
Dremeled everything!! Desoldered everything !!! First coat of paint just went on and tomorrow second coat and re-assmbley.
No pics, but pics when it’s done.
Okay I got a question…
I got these wires from the store and just realized they are thick with lots of little wires together… if I cut out all the wires except one on it and just soder that will it still work fine or do all of the wires have to be soldered on it so it can work?
Okay so I was soldering and put the wires in the way this guide told me too:
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179535
And the only direction that was working was up… so I unsoldered everything and tried again… and it still didn’t work and I can’t get it to work.
On top of that I think I burned up some areas of the PCB and I fucked it up.
Also, the top wires for the home buttons came out… the glue didn’t hold it strong.
So I think I’m going to have to buy another HFS3 and just throw everything I did into it…
Here’s what it looked like… the red is much darker in real life.

Canto, if possible could you remove your stick and post a picture of the part of the case that holds the stick and how you modded it to fit? I still dont quite understand that part, nor the other pictures ive seen.

4th picture…
When you get the JLF and take off the restrictor plate and take off the microswitches you will notice that there are 2 sides that are rectangular that is keeping the joystick from being a square shape. The HFS3 needs a squar shaped joystick so it will fit, so what you do is you take a dremel and shave off those 2 sides that are keeping it from being a square. It’s that simple.
Look at the picture, mines looks exactly like that except both sides are shaved off. If you are still having trouble then I can take a pic tomorrow.
@ opips
Very nice ! Mines is going to be wired tomorrow so when it’s done I’ll post up pics. I also added a little more paint on mine.
Thanks, Canto
I modded FS3 with LS-56 is badasswesome!
which buttons did you guys use?
I use snap Sanwa OBSF-30mm buttons. Seimitsu and Sanwa are same 3O" mm hole. Hori stock button exactly same amlost Sanwa button snap.
If you use screwin button close space to buttons.
Man I really like those sticks opips2 and notanoob81 mad jealous.oh and Canto(nice scheme) I hope you get that working soon.
It’s pretty bland, but here’s my sanwa mod:

I haven’t yet decided if I want to put some artwork on the front.
I use custom sticker for: Generic 12in Laptop (10.6in X 8.3in)
It’s cost be $30 + tax + shipping…
DeepThoughts,
you can your own artwork to create your own on sticker .

Deep thoughts how did you keep the stock sticker on.
Funny, nothing I did required its removal…unless I did something wrong. At what point do people normally have to remove it?
I tore mine up when I removed it especially around the button area wasn’t even thinking of putting it back on but yours looks clean like it came like that.
Okay guys ! I got everything settled out and here it is…
Sanwa JLF and Sanwa OBSF 30’s

It feels fantastic !!! I had to do a lot of modding and I learned A LOT !!! It was a little harder and took more time that I thought it would but thanks to some good friends and some great guides on here I pulled through !
I’m loving it.
opips, can you use LS-56-01??
