Valid critique! I somewhat agree. We had a lot of trouble with hitboxes because the ponies are basically squares with limbs that cannot reach very far, unlike most fighting games where the players are tall thin rectangles. They do stretch a bit but not a LOT, which is why the impacts seem a little underwhelming.
The other thing is the general play size. OUr game is more of a Meltyblood style versus a streetfighter style. The characters are small and have a reasonabley small area of influence. In something like streetfighter your characters take up much more of the play area generally.
Also we are still going to add in some proper hitsparks and effects which should hopefully liven the whole thing up!.. We sonât be editing the animations unless they are really broken though.
