There’s a character in Arcana Heart who isn’t Mei-Fang? Color me surprised. I never went anywhere near Saki in AH. I found Mei-Fang and it’s been a heavenly partnership ever since. But it is good to know that these things exist though. Thanks.
Here’s the thing about BRB. What was in the livestream is in no way indicative of how that move will actually be when it’s over. Mane6 is saying Pinkie is so OP but she’s Pinkamena Diana Pie: 4TH WALL KILLER!!! But when I saw BRB it reminded me a lot of Bison (Combination of Head Stomp, Devil’s Reverse and Warp) which is where the DP thought came from. And as far as runaway is concerned it’s better to have the choice and possible application for use than not to have it at all. So the possibility of changing the move’s properties if a change in command happens is something that could be done as well. And having taken a look at Saki from AH it could be possible to have different charge motions for each version of BRB but I think that may be a bit overkill though. But again the game is a work in progress and anything can change. Maybe once we know more Theory Fighter for FiM will be a lot more interesting to say the least.
It’s all speculative, I just like the idea of a very strong movement special move that requires Pinkie to not block for a bit before she can use it. It’s a very cool concept.
Anyone else notice how similar Pinkie’s level 1 cupcake assault super was to the aerial version of Deadpool’s MvC3 level 1 Happy Happy Trigger (bangbangbangbangbangbang) super? Fourth wall breakers must take the same correspondence courses.
All your points about Pinkie’s BRB working as a DP input are valid. But we really like Pinkie’s forward charge BRB. Not only because of the technical aspect but because it’s… well… kinda weird. And Pinkie is kinda weird. We just thought it fit really well. It feels kinda fun to do. Nappy - who is our most experienced player - plays the characters in his way. In hindsight some more mirror matches would have been good to show how people play them differently! Early days yet though.
Also we didn’t really think about Pinkie’s cupcake barrage as similar to deadpool’s super, but you’re right! I’m sure there are a few aerial pewpewpew supers out there though. We don’t claim to be totally original and off-the-wall with all the moves I doubt anything we are doing hasn’t been done before somewhere.
In regards to some vids on more specific combat mechanics/character walkthroughs, we’d really like to do that. There probably isn’t much point doing those until we have the other characters in and somewhat balanced. As you guys can see from the stream the characters still have a ways to go!

Pinkie sounds so fun to play as and I was planning to main her once I heard this game was being made. Keep her as a combocentric charge character you rarely see any characters like this in any fighting game. This will be the first time I main a charge character and that first time I end up picking a god tier character XD (I know it’s going to change). Huh now that I think of It I usually don’t end up picking the best characters before a game is released. When I heard about SF4 I wanted to use Makoto when I heard Hsien-ko was in MvC3 I was using her no matter what same goes with Phoenix Wright in Ultimate, they both end up being worst in the game and PW ends up being considered unplayable, but I still use them as main characters either way and still play them no mater what. I have a solid 71-25 recorded in ultimate using a all Darkstalkers team and occasionally PW/Haggar/Doom. I always play as who I love not play by picking characters that are easy to abuse.
Anyways off topic and random low tier loving, Im really liking Pinkie and you showed that she was a beast I just got lucky this time by picking her ha. I seriously thought she would be average after seeing the Bronycon footage but I see alot of work was done during that time. Glad to see the game progressing and hope we will see a future stream when you guys buff Fluttershy’s Death Stare XD
I love all of Rarity’s zoning options,
She’s got Twelve’s ground needles, air gems that come from multiple directions, from the back gems, delayed forward gems.
I can’t wait to see how you can power them up.
(Edit= Is it just me or is her Level 1 Waay too good? I mean when rarity has one bar you can’t even jump)
If I remember correctly, there was a fight vs AJ where AJ air guarded it. And I’m guessing it will also have an animation cool down.
We are really loving the new rarity, I’m glad. Also I’m loving animating cool gem effects and eruptions haha. And yes the super is pretty damn good right now. (I BELIEVE it’s also techable after it’s finished so you don’t get caught again and can possibly bait them to use another super meter, but still chip damage ouch) Wow we need Nappy in here these questions get out of my league! Also the super hasn’t changed in original design from when we first started rarity, and since then Rarity has gotten TONNES more gem moves like the spike and the near/mid/far gems etc etc. The original intent was to have rarity have reasonably fast super gain so she could use her specials for massive damage/chip damage. It turned out that playing her long enough to gain the meter just wasn’t fun, hence the redesign. We’re loving the direction she’s going, can’t wait for you guys to see the magic system we’re doing for her, and I’m sure she’s in for some nerfs/buffs eventually
Yeah they’re all looking pretty sweet and varied, I may just have to use every character.
I would love to theory fight with Nappy. You should get him to come around these parts if he ever has time off working on the game (which I assume he doesn’t.)
Also, if Applejack can get two magic meters then Rarity probably can’t do a random Gem Storm super because AJ can EX Dash through it all, assuming it reaches that far. Should be a fun dynamic to that matchup.
Yeah AJ’s ‘alpha dash’ is really good and I think will see a LOT more use once everyone has all their tricks and supers. At the moment she can pretty much just bash the shit out of everyone.
At the end of the day you guys have the final call on it. Take my suggestion as a suggestion for my fave pony to be the best she can be. As a team Pinkie and I just have to deal with it. But I do see how having a move like that as a DP as it is now could be a problem and by not having that move at your disposal at all times it can still be dangerous but something that can’t be abused. Thanks for taking the time to even answer our concerns and entertain our thoughts. It’ll be cool to watch development of the game from this side of the fence. Keep up the great work.

I would like to point out that I saw Pinkie’s elbow drop special after BRB get blocked a few times and it looked like applejack’s crouching jab punished it on block. Is that move actually punishable on block or did the Pinkie Pie Player just not block after it?
I’m not sure how strong Pinkie is right now, but I think it’s a general rule of fighting games that overheads shouldn’t be straight up punishable by normal means (there are exceptions, of course). At worst they should be slightly negative on block so the opponent can shift momentum after they block an overhead, but punishing the player too hard for attempting a mixup can be frustrating.

Oh man, the exact frame advantages and what’s safe on block or punishable by X move etc is not a level we have gone down to yet. We’ve used rough guidelines for the timings of our recoverys and startups and hit stuns and block stuns etc so that in general things are working well, but there are no doubt a lot of unfavourable situations still that need tweaking. We didn’t want to meticulously construct every possible combination of what gives advantage and what’s punishable by what at the start because it bogs you down big time and it seems to lose a bit of the “this feels better” vibe. Does that make sense? To actually get our game started we had do to a lot of it by ‘intuition’ (which is a fancy word for educated guesses). Since our education is more about playing games than making them sometimes we get that wrong! Sometimes it might be like a 2 or 3 tick (FM uses 100ths called ticks) window that opens up something screwy but predicting all of those would have been a nightmare for us.
We aren’t QUITE there yet, but yes, we will have to get to this fine tuning stage eventually. It really is in alpha stage.

For those uninformed the reaction to derpy’s voice was negative on the whole. Hasbro took the episode off of iTunes for a bit and edited the episode to change her voice and remove her being called derpy. Welp this sucks.
