I don’t totally trust a non-Mane 6 FiM, but I’m interested in the game at least. Here’s hoping it isn’t broken trash.
While I’m bumping the thread, what’s with the total lack of Season 4 discussion? Or comic discussion for that matter. Friends Forever issue 2 that just came out this week was fucking amazing, and was easily one of the top five issues in the main series or the micro series to date.
I agree. Friends Forever #2 was really good. Along with rarity micro series, luna micro, and the big Mac 2 parter out was one of the better issues so far.
And I can’t wait for the next issue for the main series. Should be a good story.
The Luna micro series was one of my favorite issues as well. Return of Queen Chrysalis was my favorite arc overall with Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair being a close second.
The next issue in the main series is supposed to be about Starswirl the Bearded, correct?
EDIT: Apparently the fan hacked version drops today. Details in the video description
As far as the frankstein alpha goes, I’ll check it out just to see how it plays, but I’m still more hyped for what Mane6 develops using the Z-engine and creative freedom of a new IP. Hopefully this thing wont cause any legal fallback on them, I’d really hate to see any more problems for them.
Season 4 seems to have had a good start (I’ve seen up through Rarity in Manehatten), and the comics have generally been good. I’ve liked everything in the main series so far. Haven’t had a lot of time for watching shows, reading, or games lately lol.
Concerning the Mane 6, unless evidence comes to light connecting them to the development of the Tribute Edition, Hasbro can’t touch 'em. Their new game is a new IP, and the team behind Tribute Edition FiM went out of their to ensure that Mane 6 had no further ties to it
Nope. They couldn’t do anything once they got the C&D. Once you get one, they have their legal attack dogs ready to be let off the leash if you decide to violate it.
I don’t think I’d call it a “reskin,” but Mane6 is now working on a game that will be be mechanically similar to their original plan but with new characters (though they may have some likeness to the originals due to similarly in terms of control/movelists). Their new game will also be using the Z-engine (what Skullgirls is made with) and will feature new characters/new world/whole new concepts, and is being worked on with the help of Lauren Faust on the team. They just posted this adorable sketch of one of the new characters in development.
From what little I’ve played of the tribute edition, it’s nice that they put in the stage select and movelist in the pause menu. Rarity seems to function more similarly to what we saw in the Canterlot Gardens build, and AJ feels like she’s been considerably nerfed. The two new characters don’t have great spriting or voice-work (though Fluttershy’s time-out losing animation gave me a chuckle), but are fairly fun to use. Rainbow Dash is ridiculous for easy-ish combos.
If playing a FiM build recently has taught me anything, it’s that I’m still absolute trash at trying to do 2x half-circles on command.
edit: I’m also glad to see that the tribute edition people included that disclaimer text with the download and tried to make it as clear as possible that the build is not associated with the original team. We’ll have to see how this plays out, maybe it’ll even live long enough to get those extra characters added, though that would probably take much longer than this did seeing as how they wont have any previous work to build off of.
I started a thread for Mane6’s new game a while ago, but now it’s rotting away in the back of the Fighting Game Discussion section because Mane6 just won’t update their site with new material.
I downloaded the Tribute Edition last night and spent a few hours playing with Twilight. This is the first time I’ve gotten my hands on the game and it plays really well. I’m going to try to get the networking going today and see how well that works. Even though it’s unfinished, I hope this gets some love for a while.
