MLP: Fighting Is Magic - A Fighting game for manly men only (New characters from MLP creator?!)

Taking a long time announcing things. Hmmmmmmmm…

Trailer for Equestria girls is out:

Quality animation? check
Quality VA? check
Quality, non-stereotypical storyline? LOL, replaced with “Can twilight become prom queen??”

Mane6 take note: I don’t care whether or not the deer becomes princess of spring formal, I just want to know can she whip that llama’s ass with a belt?

So is a movie :open_mouth:

This is odd, I didn’t expect this transition. Maybe this is the reason as to why Lauren left the staff. Sad face.

One thing that is pretty interesting is the villain’s design seems to be based off an existing toy who’s description says she knows “a magical pathway to faraway adventures.” As well as used to be Celestia’s student. Got to give the team props on putting that one together.

The sad thing is that i am pretty sure that it will never be available on theaters where i live

Ugh, so gross: being ponies made it awesome. Being humans makes it 6Teen.

So this is actually a small movie? Thought it was gonna a spin-off mini series of some kind. It’s very odd to see the story line jump into this kind of… purlieus? I dunno.

I see some people are natural about it, but I’m kinda all against it. I think people are just happy for more FiM content.

I don’t like that they went with a HS setting >:/

MLP fandom about now:

It looks like the movie will honestly have a little bit of fun in the humor department, but the human-world high school setting (where only pony-based characters have pastel skin tones) feels kind of out of place with the original series for a couple of reasons, including the independence level of the characters (the Mane 6 already seem to be settled into their careers in FiM). Further, the likely prom queen theme in the plot seems quite a stretch for a Twilight-focused story.

I could be wrong, given that it’s not even out yet, but I think that the movie will have a few truly fun elements though the tone might not be in keeping with the concepts that have made the show so engaging for me, and likely doesn’t represent the original ideas behind the characters that I’ve grown an interest in. Given that the target audience of the series is young girls and that those in charge believe that this kind of media (likely alongside an anthropomorphized doll line) will sell to them, I can’t really fault them on the decision, though it is not the one I would have liked to see as it doesn’t seem to embody the things that I enjoy in the show. The Sunset Shimmer part sounds a little interesting, but is it supposed to be a surprise that the human with such a name might not be from around there? Or do the humans all have pony-ish names too?

tl;dr
It could have some good elements but doesn’t interest me enough at the moment because of the divergence from the original characteristics of the show. Time will tell, I guess.

I think Twilight is supposed to get the crown back from the Equestria Girls universe. For whatever reason, a magical artifact from another world is the trophy in a high school popularity contest. Depending on how they set it up, they could make this into something great without running the whole I need to be prom queen story playbook.

Klaatu barada nikto!

Update on progress and hitbox work, with a little sneak peak at some WIP stuff, dropped today (and it looks pretty great!)

The cow looks pretty cool

If anyone went to either StocktonCon a couple months ago or NYCC this last weekend and picked up an extra copy of the MLP comics, let me know. I may be able to trade you a San Diego ComicCon for it.

I wish I had. I’m only 4 hours away from NYC but research has got me super busy these days. I’m behind the times a bit on the comics, I might actually wait for the third arc to be released as a volume to get it.

Also, although the thread is pretty much in stasis until further development of the new game is released, it might be worth mentioning that an interview with a lot of the Mane6 team, including Lauren Faust, recently aired on a podcast called Brony Time, which can be found here or at bronytime.com. Skip to about the 8 minute mark to pass the intro, Lauren joins about 37 minutes in. There’s at least a few hints as to how some of the characters are shaping up. I think Lauren said that so far the first six are different species but they’re all hooved.

Dead game?

Not dead
