Since the show started again, I can imagine the team for this game getting a morale boost
Anyone else see Gak or Floam, when they close their eyes? Gak for pres 2016
Watched the S3 opener…really enjoyed it. Seems like they may have something of an overarching storyline going this season.
Damn quiet in here considering the season premiere was this weekend.
Also, those Season 3 preview clips. Man, I wasn’t ready.
Next week’s episode is going to be fucking nuts.
Season 3? Nobody cares about the show, we just want the game
anyone knows why this season is only 13 episodes instead of 26
I believe Equestria Daily had a post concerning for the 13 episodes. Just gotta find it though.
Also, the game is looking good so far. <3
I read on EQD that it was only 13 episodes cause Hasbro wanted more money. Kids will keep watching the shit on television so why not save some episodes for later years when they can suck kids right back in.
Rictor’s explanation is concise and accurate.
Moreso than Hasbro’s official reason.
Season 3 premiere was great! Despite some people’s complaints about the villain, I liked him. He was very Sauron-like, which is what I think they were aiming for.
I think the main problem with Sombra is that he was only a potential threat. He had a lot going for him, but in the end it just came down to “CRYSTAAAAALS” and a couple of snarls. Yeah, he’s definitely the most deadly villain we’ve seen so far (Discord is too playful for violence, and Chrysalis just wanted to get her snack on), but we didn’t see that at all.
Granted, it’s a children’s show, and I’m sure parents don’t want their kids watching some ponies get re-enslaved or outright killed, but I’m sure the opinions you got were from people your age or above, not children.
But yeah, good episode I guess. No S3 content for this game, but can we get a Sombra pallete for somepony? No?
Regarding the MLP villains, they’re all really cool in their own ways but they all share one thing in common…
Most of their evil deeds are done offscreen.
Nightmare Moon may have been so powerful that Celestia couldn’t stop her without the Elements of Harmony, but she didn’t exactly do very much, either. Hell, her traps and obstacles only served to prove the Mane Six’s worthiness of wielding the Elements. Still, she had a cool design and her obvious history makes her a fan-favorite. Also, Lauren Faust said at one point that an outside force was responsible for corrupting Luna and cranking her jealously and bitterness up to eleven, thus giving birth to NMM. However, since she is no longer on the show’s staff, it’s unknown if they will incorporate this into the show.
Discord, who is pretty much the most popular villain of the series, may not have done anything outright to physically hurt others, but his brand of chaos isn’t exactly what I would call safe living conditions. He also takes pleasure from mentally breaking his victims or driving them insane through mere exposure to his warped reality, so we know he isn’t a nice guy. It was even implied that he did FAR WORSE things before Celestia and Luna overthrew him and turned him to stone. In ‘The Return of Harmony’ Part 1, when Celestia showed the stained glass mural of Discord dangling ponies over a fire, you could hear the faint sounds of agonized screams in the background…
Nobody saw Queen Chrysalis coming, but she earns props for being such a manipulative bitch. The first phases of her plan aren’t actually seen but it’s obvious that she knew what she was doing by using a royal wedding as the perfect time to attack Canterlot. While disguised as Princess Cadence, she even got to be a total bitch to everyone and pass it off as premarital stress! Speaking of which, Chrysalis simultaneously caused Twilight to be disowned by her brother, abandoned by her friends, AND rebuked by her teacher/idol/second mother! Poor girl was so broken that she probably would have caught the first train out of Canterlot…If Chrysalis didn’t decide to imprison her in those caves, that is (which is what ultimately wound up biting her in the ass)!
With that said, King Sombra really isn’t any different from the previous villains. My only complaint is that I wish he had more lines. However, we all know the real reason these villains don’t amount to their full potential, and that is because of one simple reason…
THE SHOW IS RATED TV-Y
All things considered, for a show about candy-colored cartoon ponies, it has some pretty badass villains.
EDIT Fixed an incomplete sentence in the NMM paragraph.
It would be neat if they went on to "movie " routes since that would be the most cost effective way in continuing the series while keeping the fan base. Plus, short random episodes / movies tend to market better for kids and make the most buck from an already successful series as long as the show has established itself.
To tell you the truth, I was thinking the same thing. Making a TV movie, or a direct-to-video movie would be an excellent idea to further milk the franchise and wring brony wallets even drier. Hasbro seems to have realized that there is money to be made in MLP:FiM DVD sales, which is why they’re finally releasing season one on DVD.
I just hope Hasbro doesn’t abandon DVD sales prematurely and leave the fans assed out, just like what happened with Transformers Animated (no official release for season three).
A Movie would be cool
Goddammit
Hopefully, the sales of the seasson 1 dvd would show them that the adult part of the market is willing to toss money to the series, and will serve as an incentive for them of making longer seasons
edit
Why they don’t release it on bluray?
Cause blue ponies are dumb.
Purple ponies on the other hand… aw man… speaking of hands…
Almost didn’t recognize PozerWolf with the new avatar there for a second.
I think the season 3 pilot was pretty great overall. I think the gags and some of the animation/magic use were my favorite parts. King Sombra was kind of a disappointment as a villain for me because of the whole few lines thing and not really being built as a character. I think that’s a little more understandable when approached from the idea of him as more of a Sauron villain or an overarching allegory (representing traumatic depression in this case, with his subjects having been enslaved and no longer remembering what used to bring joy to them and, in turn, the empire), but he still didn’t seem as ‘villainous’ as he was built up to be without any actual dialogue or motive. If anything, the cursed door seemed more terrifying to me (wonder if Sombra made it or if he found and looked through it, causing his corruption).
I agree that a movie could be pretty cool, and I hope the season 1 DVD sales give Hasbro some more faith in marketing the show itself. I don’t know how well the DVD pre-order sales have been doing, but the upcoming comic book has something over 90,000 copies sold in pre-orders alone (very impressive given that it is being published by IDW).
The ep was ok, but I prefer the non-adventure episodes so I’m more hype for the coming eps. Especially Trixies return.
^
You and I both. Can’t wait to see The Great and Powerful Trixie in action once more. <3
