What if I watch both? KOF finals are tonight, and they are on different time zones, so I can watch the finals then watch KOF pool play from NCR and be back in time for cornflakes.
facepalm
same. also mlg. had no idea until now.
Dude, it’s fucking street fighter.
im watching the sc5 stream now
the last match finished 20 mins ago
i’ve watched 4 sets of adds and the next match hasnt even started yet
taking the piss tbh
The ratio of gameplay to fluff on fighters stream is awful
updated my last post w/ notes from this interview.
idc what y’all say, the stream fucking sucks
It’s a free stream, MLG needs to run as many adds as possible. That’s how their system works.
If you don’t like it then vote with your computer and don’t watch it.
im not watching it anymore i watched for a few hours on day 1
I don’t blame Juice for giving up on SFIV…I know he’s played the older fighting games also and there just isn’t that much to it after playing the older ones. Yeah sure there’s the whole competition and winning thing but fuck dat, play what’s most fun for you first.
I might be interested in playing in MLG for some money without having to get top 3 or whatever…but watching that shit was pretty ass.
Why are you so concerned with how I word my responses towards them? You make it sound as though if I ask them really nicely, they won’t bombard me with ads. Wake up. MLG is a business. I gave them a fair shot, they harassed me with ads, and I was extremely displeased.
I said it was a dangerous precedent because it opens up the possibility that other streams will adopt this model and harass fgc viewers with constant ad placement. I already mentioned that our current streams feature ad placement, but MLG takes it to an extreme. THAT is the dangerous precedent. It would be one thing if this was actually their first attempt at catering to the fgc, but as it has already been pointed out to you, this is not MLG’s first time with the fgc.
MLG 2005, 2010
Also in 2005, MLG collaborated with Evo for a joint event in Las Vegas. MLG held tournaments for Halo and Smash Bros. Evo held tournaments for SSF2T, SF3 Third Strike, MvC2, CvS2, GGXX, Tekken 5, and TTT. Evo attendees outnumbered MLG attendees by more than 4 to 1, but Evo was only allocated 1/4th of the total floor space, resulting in lots of cramped players and hard feelings. We were literally shoved into the corner of an otherwise all-MLG event. In retaliation, Evo attendees booed the Halo finalists (an act which we condemned publicly on the spot, by the way). MLG disengaged with the FGC utterly until 2010.
In 2010 MLG briefly flirted with Tekken 6, a game on its last legs competitively. When the player numbers were predictably lackluster, MLG dropped the game at the end of the season.*
MLG has a history of disrespecting us and what happened yesterday and what is going on now with constantly getting harassed with ads only continues to demonstrate that they care more about making money than they do catering to us. If it came across as a big “screw you MLG,” then achievement unlocked! “my message was received loud and clear. “
I am not the only one who thought that their stream was unprofessional, uninspired, and ad-focused, and pointing this out by writing an article about it not only lets people know about my experience with the MLG product, but it also communicates that such a model would have a terrible effect on fg streams in general. We take it for granted that we can watch streams for free with maybe 10% of it being ads. What’s to stop somebody like Pepsi or Red Bull coming to EVO, CEO, NCR, or other important streams and paying organizers a ton of money to adopt the MLG model? Would anybody reading this actually watch an EVO stream if there were as many ads as MLG?
This “overreacting” as you call it lets organizers know that such a model is unacceptable. You say that such a practice is impractical, but I disagree. Voicing our displeasure with such a practice sends a clear message: If you want people to watch your stream, DON’T do what MLG is doing.
Well today was just as bad as yesterday. No stream on Twitch, only got to watch a couple of matches and 9 million commercials. If this is eSports, then I don’t want this.
Yea all the ads were at little annoying, but I enjoyed watching KoF yesterday and enjoying watching MK right now. The matches were great as was the commentary. TheAnswer, Fubarduck and Juicebox all did a good job trying to explain things that were happening on screen and had some classic reactions to a few things that happened also. The format was different from fgc events and I guess i’m alright with it cause I wasn’t expecting it to be like community ran events (They still need work though. too much down time.) Redrapper is right instead of going with the doom and gloom just give suggestions on what they can improve so they can try again the next time they hold a tournament for fighters. If those suggestions you feel are needed aren’t implemented the next time then you can wash your hands with them and move on.
Personally I got what I wanted from the stream which were good matches to watch/study and a few explanations on things that were happening from the commentators. I don’t care about interviews (some were entertaining though) promos or any of that stuff. All I care about is being able to see good matches if I’m not able to attend and I got what I wanted.
The point is that just saying FUCK MLG YOU SUCK is guaranteed never to accomplish anything, while saying “this is what’s wrong and why we don’t like what we see” and breaking it down in no uncertain terms may. It’s pretty easy to understand. Your hyperbolized, sensastionalistic phrasing doesn’t make it any more wrong or right.
I don’t mean to rain on your parade, and you’re right in saying everything you’re saying, but you shouldn’t be surprised at all that there are money-apologist shills on Shoryuken, the official Capcom fansite for fighting game players that are marginally more “hardcore” than the ones on Capcom-Unity (site that serves a different demographic).
Please please can we get a better balance of gameplay and fluff?
I’m going to start timing the end of one match to the beginning of the next because it feels like 20-30 minute gaps and the set takes like 10 minutes from start to finish.
MK community hyped themselves up I really wanted to see some matches.
This isn’t ever happening.
“Fluff” is a very relative term.
Commentators talking about the game/scene/players is relevant, interviews with players are relevant, and ads are a necessity to facilitate having the event/stream.
But if they could cut down on the dead time with nothing but the MLG logo and “we’ll be right back” that would be nice.
Hardcore is a funny word.
