If we’re gonna get make a big deal about product placement and advertising can we at least acknowledge that we already put up with it on our own streams? Of course, we do it for free half of the time.
I don’t think anyone here can act like they haven’t heard Yipes or Matrix going on about Go Bananas Snapple. If they had just got the best shave of their life right before they sat down at the mic and were going on about the new Mach Speed Turbo Razor (and 20$ says it would get mentioned every time V. Joe threw out the super in Marvel) no one would be saying anything. They have the presence of mind to not interrupt matches with it and hopefully MLG can get to that point as well or work out a new vehicle for ads on the FG side of things (doubtful, since commercials aren’t going anywhere, but meh.)
For MLG to turn the FGC into into a legitimate business it has to cater to its audience or it becomes a waste of resources. If you feel like they made some huge mistake send them your thoughts (or don’t) and if they keep putting out lousy content, how is it hurting you? Just go find another stream to watch or do something else with your time, eventually they’ll wise up or die. It’s not like you’re personally invested in it’s success, either way.
If MLG isn’t your thing, don’t watch it. Same with any other stream. It’s not like we haven’t put up with sub-par quality stuff from our side too, from time to time. At it’s heart thought, it’s still just a tourney (poorly timed in this circumstance) and the people playing it might be wasting time outside of their matches but as long as they aren’t doing anything that affects their actual play, I could care less.
I couldn’t watch more than 30 minutes of that stream, the commentary was just to boring and the interview I did see was way to awkward lol. The problem I have with E-Sports and MLG is that it just feels to fake.
Isn’t the issue just the matches themselves?
Most commentators suck tremendous ass early, only 1-2 guys who know things per game.
If they just do better add placement, it’d be fine.
Now, it can get annoying.
Yesterday was just a hot mess with trolls getting banned, commercials in between matches while a set was still taking place, too much downtime with nothing to fill it, retarded product placements, and the overall lack of energy and hype. I watched Justin’s first match and it literally took a half hour to get to the next match.
But as the night progressed, things got better, so it’s not the end of the world. But the real problem was the lack of energy, but today should be much better. If not, then don’t watch it.
Also shoutouts to MLG supporting non-capcom titles but everyone needs to co-ordinate and try to find a way to have tournaments that overlap each other. I know that is hard to do because there are so many and not enough weeks in the year but there has got to be some way.
Translation: I am mad butthurt that a player far more talented than I am finally got fed up with the awful flawed game I slobber all over and is putting his time into an honest fighting game that blows up scrubs on the regular. I will rage about this on SRK, but play it cool and come off as “Real Talk” and “Calling out a fraud”. Man I am so awesome.
Oh and just so this isn’t completely off topic, MLG has pretty much delivered on my (lack of) expectations, including being overly greedy with how HD passes work.
No, no, no. He has never quit SF, he may quit SF4, which is a completely different thing. Never confuse SF with SF4: completely different engines, hitboxes, moves, priorities, recoveries, start-ups, etc.
BTW, there are more Tekken, Marvel and Anime players into SF4 than old SF heads. And everyone knows who’s the only one who really succeeds - Daigo - although Valle also does OK.
With the exception of the empty seats, being at the same time as another event and commercials between matches (which they changed to between sets after complaints), the event was fantastic.
The commercials and interviews were just padding, because they had KoF scheduled for the whole day but so few entrants.
The actual presentation, commentary, and even the interviews were spot on, if there were more matches (more competitors) and a crowd (more live spectators) it would have been perfect.
So the only legitimate complaints against “eSports” are the short notice announcement and having the event at the same time as NCR, which is a poor complaint considering the event was scheduled based on Stacraft, not fighting games.
Dangerous my ass. MLG is not going to take over. We still have the community majors and toruneys. We still have Sp00ky, LevelUp, iPLayWinner etc streams. What are you on about?
It seems like the ‘lol eSports’ fever has gotten to you so you’re making up shit for the sake of it. Can’t believe the trash that’s coming out of your mouth right now. We need both types of event’s. So stop being pessimistic and making up ‘dangerous’ predictions you clown of a Nostre Damus.
I’ve always seeen the community events as the minors and people who seriously want to make a career off gaming are going to look towards pro leagues. Don’t know why fighters are the original competitive titles yet our pros can’t even break event when they win majors.
Really? You thought the interviews were spot on? Because they seemed really awkward and out of place to me (mostly due to the interviewer). Also stop trying to classify which complaints are “legitimate” and which are not, that’s not for you to decide.
Based on what I’ve heard from recent interviews and such with Juicebox, I don’t think his recent dislike of SFIV is because he perceives it as an “awful” game; it sounds to me that he’s more fed up with the fact that too often in SFIV, victory is decided by the matchup rather than the players themselves. Which isn’t necessarily a Street Fighter IV specific thing. Street Fighter games have always had lopsided matchups that could sometimes over-ride player skill. If you listen to Juicebox on the recent episode of The Orochinagi Show, he talks alot about his recent Grand Finals match versus Justin at Winter Brawl. He said that he felt the set wasn’t really a test of skill between him and Justin, but rather that the Abel vs. Rufus matchup is so bad that it didn’t matter how good he is; Jwong playing Rufus automatically skewed the odds heavily in his favor. Juicebox seemed to indicate that his main reason for preferring KOF now is that every character has such a wide array of options that it does away with the idea of “losing at the character select screen”.
He has no spine cuz he dropped the main game in the US for a niche games he loves more? I’d wish all the players would be honest with themselves and do the same.
I don’t play KoFXIII, but I do enjoy watching it because it does contain pretty hype moments but the stream production was just very boring IMO. It didn’t contain any form of enthusiasm from the viewers or even the players because it just seemed like they were locked up. I stopped watching after 20 minutes or so…bummer because I do feel like KoF needs all the support we can offer.
P.S. Just reinforced Papa Spooky’s position.
How are events like Final Round, NEC, Winter Brawl, CEO etc minors. I mean, okay, you say that it’s the way you see it; but fighting games aren’t about making money. That’s a personal decision. If someone wants to make a career out of fighting games, that’s an individuals decision; how does that somehow make grassroots majors, ‘minor’ events just because they don’t pay as much as a professional league?
We’re not talking about people’s career choices. We are talking about the representation of the scene under different spotlights. eSports events bring to the table what grassroot events don’t and vice versa. Both are good, both are needed.
If the scene ditches grassroots events for the Pro leagues for that cash, would that be MLG(and the like)'s fault? No. It just exposes the fraudulence of the people who made that decision despite their mockery of eSports back when.
Tbh, Red Rapper put it too well so I shouldn’t bother typing much.
