MLB (Baseball) 2009 (including fantasy leagues)

Haha ya man, I seriously wouldn’t doubt if he was. When Hawk would let him do play by play haha holy shit there is no way anyone is worse than him in the history of broadcasting, and if there is i would like to hear them.

Oh man. Solo DJ in the booth was MORTIFYING.

Rock on, Mark Buerhle…

Dwayne Wise also gets props for saving that game with that long ass catch.

Buehrle ftw! What’s hilarious is 25% of fantasy owners didn’t even PLAY him vs the dangerous Rays. Which makes sense, the Rays have the 2nd or 3rd best lineup in the league, Mark’s a contact pitcher, and the Rays have a ton of speed.

But man, imagine coming home from a long day at work, hopping on your fantasy league to see “W 5-0” next to Mark Buehrle’s name… and he’s on your bench. You click on the game, just to see how well he did, and you hate yourself for the next two days at least.

^_-;

wow…an incredible feat i was lucky enough to witness this afternoon in person.

oh man, i almost throttled the guy next to me after he made that catch. i thought it was a sure HR.

Yeah, you’ve never spoken to me before and made this valid conclusion. LOL ok then, guess you can’t please everybody. Way to be random!

Yeah, Beltran was AMAZING during his brief stint as an Astro. He’s been a centerpiece in two of the best NLCS ever played.

Do you think Halladay makes a Sabathia-like impact wherever he winds up?

You get many points for your title and avatar haha.

And no, I don’t think Halladay will make a Sabathia like impact. I’m just crossing my fingers and hope Boston doesn’t get him:(

He’s not going anywhere in the AL East, so I doubt you’ll have to worry. I’d love to see him as a Mariner (or maybe a Rocky so I can go see him in person), but it seems as though Philly is one of the only realistic options.

And yeah…I hate Jay Cutler. Burned my #6 jersey even.

I’ve read more than enough of your posts in this thread to come to that conclusion. Nothing personnal, you just don’t know baseball at all. Your opinions on everything baseball are misconstrued by your love of the Yankess and it annoys the fuck out of me. The way you throw your opinions out there actually believing the stuff you say blows my mind, everyone is entitled to their own opinion I believe, but if that opinion is so dumb than it’s hard for it not to bother me.

Anyway, I prolly shouldn’t have posted what i posted in the first place cuz I don’t wanna be an asshole for the most part haha but oh well eh. Sorry for posting it though.

Btw, I have skimmed the NFL thread and have read some of your posts and from what i’ve read it seems like you know more about football than baseball. I’ll prolly start posting in there as the season gets closer, oh, and I’m also a diehard Redskins fan heh.

I don’t think so. Remember that C.C. Sabathia was in his walk year so the Brewers had little incentive to preserve his arm. In his 17 starts for Milwaukee he pitched complete games in more than 1/3 of them (7). He pitched at least 7 innings in 13 of those starts.

Whichever team trades for Roy Halladay also will most likely have him next season so there’s no incentive to tax his arm. It’s tough to say what kind of impact he’ll have exactly. You’d expect the usual Halladay who gives the bullpen a day off. I don’t think he’s ever pitched in a meaningful game in September, let alone October except as a spoiler. It’s unknown how he’ll respond to such pressure.

It depends which team gets him also. The Phillies don’t need him to make the playoffs so they won’t have to squeeze a ton of innings out of him but if a team in the AL or NL Central gets him they’ll need as many innings from him as possible.

so sick

I think I know enough about baseball to hold a conversation. I don’t claim to know as much about baseball as I do football, and really, the only team I keep up w/is the Yankees. If I’m wrong on something, just correct me, it’s that simple. I don’t think I’ve said anything stupid like “ZOMG YANKEES ARE PERFECT” or “JOBA CHAMERLAIN IS A FUTURE HOF”. You’re painting me out to be a hardcore yankees fan who doesn’t know shit about baseball. I’ve already said my piece on the Pirates/LaRoche issue, no need to drag that out any further, but again, I think I know enough to hold a conversation and I’m certainly not burning anybody at the stake for their opinions…so yeah

Matt Holliday was traded to the Cardinals for Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortenson, and Shane Peterson.

I hope the Cards know what they’re doing. This isn’t Colorado Rockies Matt Holliday that they’re getting.

WOW, Brett Wallace is a lot to give up for two months of Matt Holliday.

A’s just found their starting third basemen in 2010.

Clayton Mortensen was another top prospect for them, picked in first supplementary round in 2007…and Peterson was a 2nd round pick in last year.

That is a very good haul for Oakland, especially considering how badly Holliday’s been hitting this year.

Although he has been heating up…338/.413/.574 in July, and he should do better in St. Louis’ line-up as well. Not a bad guy to hit next to Pujols, and I think the Cardinals are really going to benefit…

…but damn, that’s a lot to give up for a guy Boras client that they have no chance to sign to an extension before he hits free agency.

I might be wrong about this, but it seems to me they made this move to give Pujols protection in the lineup. But for only a few months??? I’m not sure about it. Giving up a top prospect for him just doesn’t add up to me.

Now we just need the Phillies to give up their best prospect for Halliday. The H*lliday pair in the NLCS where one strikes out / hits a walk-off against the other to clinch the pennant.

  • world explodes *

It’s Roy “Halladay.”

Cardinals desperately needed another bat in the outfield to stay competitive - if they didn’t have Colby Rasmus this year, they’d already be dead. Although Ludwick’s slowly rounding back to form, I guess…but I can certainly see why they wanted to get a deal done for Holliday.

I just wonder if they could have gotten more than just a two month rental for what was arguably their top prospect. Billy Beane is back, I guess.

Although consider that Holliday projects to be a Type A free agent, so St. Louis is going to get two picks out of it anyway to replenish the guys they lost, so the cost wasn’t QUITE that much.

I think I’d rather see Halladay with the Dodgers - I’d rather trade him for a package around Kershaw than to Philly for Drabek and Happ. Drabek’s unproven, and I think we have enough borderline #2’s/#3’s internally in the organization already, I’d rather get a surer thing in Kershaw, which will legitimately become a staff ace.

All those packages would be a lot to give up though…

But I think if I was Philly, I might do it anyway. It wouldn’t just be the one championship last year…you could turn it into a three year dynasty just like that. And there’s certainly no reason to believe that you wouldn’t be able to resign him again when his contract comes up either, especially if it’s too keep the core together after you’ve won.

If Kershaw’s what it’d take for the Dodgers to get Roy Halladay I’d tell the Blue Jays to shove off. The Dodgers already have the best team in the National League. Why would they mortgage the future to wind up in the exact same spot?

I get that the Jays GM is desperate and needs a good haul to save his job but that’s insane. If he thinks he’s getting back young aces like Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, or Jered Weaver then there’s a strong possibility that Roy Halladay will be pitching for the Blue Jays the rest of the season.

That’s why I don’t think he’ll be traded by the deadline.

Those are the only type of guys that make sense to trade Halladay for, but all the teams that can put together a legitimate package of prospects are out of contention by now (ie. the Giants) and those that are in contention don’t have the high level pitching prospects necessary (ie. the Angels).

Otherwise Jays are just better off keeping him and making a push in 2010. Otherwise even if Toronto just gets supplementary picks for him, that’s not too bad of a haul either - so a package would have to, at a minimum, beat the two first rounders Toronto would be getting as compensation.

Waiting this long has also let teams like the Dodgers or Phillies feel like they don’t need to make any additions to their club since they’re winning so much already, so makes the chances of a trade even less likely.
