Shane Victorino won the NL vote and Brandon Inge won the AL vote for the last all-star spot. Inge I don’t have a problem with though he probably should have got in over Michael Young. Shane Victorino winning is terrible. Pablo Sandoval and to a lesser extent Mark Reynolds were much more deserving.
Ryan Church of the Mets traded for Jeff Francouer of the Braves. In other words a scrub for scrub trade.
Dan Haren is having a dominant first half of the season. From wikipedia:
Domination. His ERA+ is 225 which would put him in the top 15 all time. Of course there’s still a lot of season left to play but right now he’s the best pitcher in baseball and certainly the best pitcher in the National League.
Every single one of Dan Haren’s losses have been quality starts. (He’s only had one non quality start this season, 7 innings, 5 runs versus Oakland…a pretty weird game in which he gave up 4 home runs.)

6 innings, 2 runs (L 1-3 vs. LAD)

He’s also thrown two 7 inning, 1 run games that the bullpen blew for no decisions.
The Diamondbacks suck.
He still went 7 innings and if I recall correctly the Diamondbacks won that game. So even in the one start where he struggled he still helped his team out enough to give them a chance to win the game.
Dan Haren’s also hitting .270 this season so in a way he can win a game just about by himself. Not literally but you know what I mean.

For what it’s worth Jeff Francoeur does have 2 seasons with over 100 RBI. Of course he needed to play every game and have well over 600 at-bats just to barely reach those totals.
All-in-all I think it was a nothing trade. Both teams hated their previous outfielders so they just made a swap. Francouer is still only 25 years old so there’s still a chance for some potential but a player with his lack of plate discipline I doubt it.
Manny Acta finally going to get fired, this is a mercy killing of anything. This is really no indication on how good of a manager he is, Wash is a horrible team of malcontents.
Jay Bruce out 6 to 8 weeks with a fractured wrist. He didn’t hit for average but he had a lot of power. It looks like the Reds will be selling at the trade deadline yet again.
I know alot of people do not like the idea but baseball really needs a minimum cap where you have to spend so much. These basically AAA farm teams for the Sox/Yanks are getting ridiculous.

Did they ever officially decide on/make a ruling for what happens once they run out of position players to put in to throw BP and the game as no sign of ending like last year, especially with the World Series field advantage on the line? I vaguely remember the announcers talking about possibilities and read an article or two after the game but forget anything that was said on TV or in print.
