MLB (Baseball) 2009 (including fantasy leagues)

To be honest, I would get rid of him because it hasn’t fulfilled any of his promises he made in previous seasons or when being hired. He isn’t the greatest at PR (“It isn’t lying if we know the truth”) and he has burned some bridges. I will give him some credit however for his ability to pick up cheaper players and turn them into solid pieces such as Downs, Tallet and Marco. I would love to see Alex Anthopoulos (Our Assistant GM) become our GM as he seems to have a great eye in scouting as well as solid PR and contract skills.

As for Wells and Rios, Rios seems to be getting there slowly, however it seems his awareness is lacking and has a tendency to make foolish gaffes in the field and on the basepaths. I have no idea what the hell is wrong with Wells, he may be injured or he may just suck ass. It would be nigh-impossible to trade Wells with that contract, so that would leave a DL stint or hope to God he figures it out fast, because he’s looking brutal at times.

You can never predict the World Series. It’s nearly impossible at this point. Who would have thought the Cubs, the best team in the NL last year, would get swept by the Dodgers? Who would have thought the Rays would make the World Series? Or the PHILLIES…PLUS WIN IT?

If anybody says “yes” to either, you’re lying. Point being, there are certain teams that get your hopes up and fail, and there are certain teams you give up on and they surprise you. As a Yankees fan, it doesn’t get worse than 2004, when we were up 3-0 and…fuck that, I’m not finishing the story.

It couldn’t get worse, as a Mariners fan, than when we won 116 games in the regular season, lost to the Yanks in the ALCS in 5 games, then never saw the playoffs again, ever.

I understand what you’re saying, but you can always make an educated guess as to who you’ll see in the World Series, even at this point in the season. Anything can happen, the Rockies can get hot and rape everyone at the end of the season, the Cubs can/will implode to a team with far fewer wins, the Yanks can blow a 3-0 lead, sure. But there are only so many teams who actually make it into the postseason, and given the talent of both L.A. teams this year, I’m sure the potential for an all SoCal series will exist around October.

I wouldn’t bother considering the Angels because let’s be honest, they and Boston will make the playoffs. Somehow, they will run into them. And every year I root for them to beat the Sox and they disappoint me. They CANNOT beat the Sox in the playoffs, I have no idea why. Sox are good, but they just own the Angels post season. What the hell: I’ll bite and play along. I’ll also add division winners and world series prediction.

Mine:

AL East: Boston
AL Central: Chicago Sox (Just a feeling)
AL West: Texas
Wild Card: Yankees

NL East: Phillies
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Dodgers, by a landslide. No matter what the Rockies do, or anybody in this division, pound for pound, especially when Manny returns, this team rocks.
Wild Card: Mets

For shits and giggles, WS prediction:

Boston vs Dodgers

I love the Yankees pretty much more than most NYers I know. I have a tattoo of them on my arm. But the way they are playing now, though overall great as they are, Boston is paying better. And the Dodgers IMO are the best team in the league hands down. When Manny gets back, shit is over IMO

On postseason:

no one can predict how postseasn goes down…every year it’s mostly what no one expects. some things have held true (Angels just can’t get past Boston…but Yankees can’t get past Angels, Cubs failing, etc) and last year proved it with Rays and Phillies in the WS.

Being the best in the reg season means usually little to nothing in post season.

Oh my god! The Blue Jays lost 2 games in a row.

I said you shouldn’t take the Nats lightly

At least they won today’s game, though they should’ve won yesterday’s game as well since Cecil pitched really well. With him and Romero, I think our rotation will still be solid even if McGowan is finished.

Also, Accardo injured himself, which sucks ass since I was really happy to see him back in the Pen

I love the Wild Card. It’s late June and there’s really only 1 or maybe 2 teams right now that you can say are done figuratively if not literally.

My predictions don’t differ too much from your own, but what the hell:

AL East: Boston
AL Central: Minnesota
AL West: Anaheim
AL Wildcard: New York (But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Texas in this spot)

NL East: Philly
NL Central: St. Louis
NL West: L.A.
NL Wildcard: San Francisco (A really risky pick, I know, but I have a feeling they can make some magic happen with all that pitching and a good trade here and there)

World Series is tough to pick, but I’ll go ahead:

Dodgers over Yankees in 6. October becomes a Joe Torre media-fest.

Probably the only positive in Selig’s reign as commissioner. Interleague is hot garbage, he needs to stop bragging about how he came up with that idea.

Interleague is awesome they should have started that years before it did.

Filled out my AS Ballot today

AL:
First Base: Russel Branyan, some of you may go wtf but look at the stats he has been a monster this year, it has just been for a shitty team.
Second Base: Brian Roberts, almost went with Aaron Hill or Ian Kinsler basically a coin flip
Short Stop: Mark Scutaro, if Bartlett would have been healthy I would have voted for him
Third Base: Evan Longoria without a doubt
Catcher: Joe Mauer no brainer, yes Victor Martinez has been good but he isn’t Mauer.
Outfield: Dye, Choo and Bay is who I voted for. Bay definetly deserves it, Dye and Choo are borderline for me but I wasn’t sure who else I could have voted for.

NL:
First Base: The Machine
Second Base: Freddy Sanchez seems to have returned to his 2007 form.
Short Stop: Ryan Theriot
Third Base: Casey Blake
Catcher: Brian McCann
Outfield: Braun, McClouth, Ibanez

This is the truth. Not only is he putting up numbers for a shitty team, but he’s doing it in the park where sluggers go to die. I remember this dude was hyped as shit back in the day, and now he’s at Safeco pulling this shit? Crazy.

Torii Hunter,Adam Jones,Carl Crawford in that order

 Seriously who did you vote for?

Casey Blake is on fire this year, Freddy Sanchez has played well as well. SS I just guessed since pretty much all the picks were ass.

If Casey Blake is on fire then David Wright must be Chernobyl. Sanchez and Theriot over Utley and Han-Ram? You know better.

I think Utley is leading the league is All Star votes overall.

If so, he leads the league is All Star votes AND handsome.

I also think J-Roll is leading the SS votes for the NL. He’s been shitty this year. Han Ram should be starting easy.

PS - Why did I drop Soo Choo and Jones in my keeper league after I dropped them. Ugh I am so dumb.

I think Pujols took over the lead for most votes and H Ramirez took over Rollins. Haha.

Wow at dropping Adam Jones…

Yet Texeira, Pena, Morneau, and Cabrera are easily having better seasons.

So the Jays beat the shit out of Arroyo… a year after they beat the shit out of Arroyo. Someone get him onto an AL East team!

In other news: “Blue Jays RHP Shaun Marcum (elbow) threw a two-inning simulated game in Florida, general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. Marcum will throw another simulated game next Tuesday and could begin pitching in minor league games in early July.”

“The news was not so good for RHP Dustin McGowan(shoulder). He cant get beyond playing catch right now, Ricciardi said”

10-0 beating ouch. I guess the win streak against philly had to end at some point. Werth = NL MVP if faces the Jays every game.

Ichiro is leading the league batting at .371 and not one of you guys cast a vote for him for AS?
