1 2 2 xx Fast Forceball 3 2 xx Slow Forceball 3 2 1 xx Slide
You can add a nJ 1/2 after the first forceball, but I find that harder to hit than the entirety of his 3 2 1 xx Elbow (Whiff) 3 2 xx Fast Forceball Slow Forceball 3 2 1 xx Slide combo, so I stick with leaving out the nJ.
Never tried hitting a 2 after the nJ, so I’m not sure if that’ll juggle and I’m just not aware, or whether the input is wrong.
wat do you guys do to ppl who kan spam and rush ie liu, mileena, etc.?
cuz im clueless against runaways so i dash block elbow to hit them out of their startup.
1 2 2 Slow Forceball 3 2 Fast Forceball 3 2 1 Slide (33%)
Though you can get an extra percent by changing the forceballs around, i.e.
1 2 2 Fast Forceball 3 2 Slow Forceball 3 2 1 Slide (34%)
3 2 1 Elbow Dash (Whiff) neutral Jump 1/2 3 2 Forceball Forceball 3 2 1 Slide (45%)
Order of Fast or Slow forceball don’t matter here unless you’re going to throw in a jump-in attack at the beginning and an EX slide at the ending, netting you 49% if you go Slow - Fast and 50% if you go Fast - Slow
I believe the 39% he’s talking about is the first one with an added neutral Jump 1/2 in it, i.e.
1 2 2 Forceball neutral Jump 1/2 3 2 Forceball 3 2 1 Slide (39%)
Though I do know that a jump-in attack and EX slide also make the first combo deal 39%
(Also, just in case you don’t understand the notation: 1 = Front Punch, 2 = Back Punch, 3 = Front Kick, and 4 = Back Kick)
Yeah, 321 xx acid hand, 321 xx forceball, 321 slide is his corner BnB. Slow forceball is easier to hit with since it’s slower, IMO.
Also, just general tidbits on some of the stuff I learned at PowerUp:
EX dash is soooooooo godlike. Gets you out of the corner even on block, is safe, and leads to good damage if you’re in the corner. Use it and abuse it.
Fuck Cyber Sub-Zero lmao. This character just demolishes Reptile easy. EX dive kick is safe on block vs Reptile, does 18% damage, 5% chip, and is fast as hell. And because he can aim his divekicks like Yun, it’s annoying as all hell to actually know when to anti-air or just block. Oh, and regular divekicks build meter lol. Definitely one of Reptile’s harder matchups.
Sub-Zero vs Reptile is a matchup of the lames. Only Sub can lame it out even harder than Reptile. Sub is by far the worst character to trade projectiles with, and getting out of the corner is VERY difficult since EX dash is nullified by clone.
If you use a dash to punish a cornered opponent, dash twice to get yourself out and back to midscreen. Good meter builder as well.
Thank god Reptile is one of the few characters that can punish Kung Lao’s spin lol. That character… >_______>
It might help you to learn to buffer the part before the neutral jump like this
1, 2, b+2 , b+1
That way all of the inputs are in four inputs, instead of how I see most people doing it in seven inputs:
1, 2, 2, b, b, 1
If you do it the first way, you can have everything buffered well before you have to input the neutral jump and punch, leaving you more time to prepare for that part. Does that make sense?
I’m thinking it’s really important for reptile to save his meter for x factor, mostly against zoning characters and characters like sub zero. It makes it so that you change the entire flow of the match, especially against sub. You are free to force ball and acid spit like crazy from the other side of the screen because of the fear of being xrayed right through ice blast or whoevers projectile. It puts the zoning game totally in reptiles favor. I’ve been just sitting on my meter and playing more defensive. If I score a knockdown I’ll put some pressure and then get out again. Once they try to hit me with a ranged attack they eat an xray. It’s worked out pretty good for me so far. I know combo breakers are important but I think the fear of being xrayed works in reptiles favor so well that it pays off more to just eat a full combo.
I’ll never use the xray in a combo unless it’s going to kill for sure. It only adds a few % to the damage of a max combo without any meter. Best way to use it is through projectiles. If they wont use projectiles then awesome, you can use yours at low risk as long as they don’t have a teleport that can punish on reaction. Most teleports are unsafe on block anyway so you get good damage if they fuck up.
X-Ray is useless vs Sub other than combos due to clone, which it does not blow through.
X-Ray is definitely good to keep opponents in check when they attempt to zone, though. A lot of his meter can also go to EX dashes, which makes for a great pressure escape AND corner escape option. The move is REALLY solid.
X ray goes right through clone from anywhere on the screen, go test it out and come back and tell me I’m wrong. X ray outside of combos works amazing against sub, I do it all day. Sub backs up, clones, throws ice and on reaction I x ray. This makes him scared next time I have meter and I can pressure all day with force balls and spit. IMO sub is a great match for reptile because of that alone.
It’s hard to get cornered with full meter unless you’re fighting raiden (with my limited competition and experience so far). Even if you need to use meter to get out it’s only 1 bar, then you build up again and hold onto x ray.
Also using X ray in combos is retarded as far as I know. You can get 45 - 48% on reptiles normal mid screen BnB combo with no meter use. now if you combo into X ray you get about 54 - 58% and blow all of your meter. Is your entire bar really worth the 10% extra damage? Sure if it’s for the kill go for it but other than that I say no, save that shit.
Just like to add that I have been frozen out of xray by the ice clone before. It happens very rarely and seems really situational. Honestly I’m not really sure what causes it but whatever. I sat in training with a friend and would absorb both an ice blast and a clone and still got the xray pretty much all the time.
Edit
After some more testing it seems to only freeze reptile if you do the xray from the maximum distance of the screen.
