I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the possibility of him being in the game entirely; MK is known for its secret characters if nothing else.
Also, why does that screen have two Cyber Subs? Admittedly, he looks badass, but why are there two of him?

Those 2 character slots apparently hold multiple characters, Cyber Sub-Zero might be the default one.
I wouldn’t be quick to dismiss usually but there hasn’t been any trace of Rain as a playable character or even one you can fight against. Hope is looking dim

I thought Robo Smoke was a character up for DLC? In any case, both those portraits are identical; they’re totally both the same character, and since Cyber Subs would almost certainly be a secret character, those do seem to be the secret slots (they probably have 2-3 characters you can cycle through so they didn’t have to add a whole nother screen).
There hasn’t been any trace of him as playable, but we know a) he’s in a background, b) he’s from UMK3 (strong reason to have him in, given MK9 is basically a love letter to UMK3) c) there’s at least 1 other character unaccounted for on that loadscreen since there wouldn’t be dual slots for one Cyber Subs.
I’m not gonna count him out just yet, especially seeing as this game has basically been a love letter to UMK3, and the first DLC characters aren’t from it.
Furthermore, is Kintaro on that loadscreen? Evidence points to him being ingame, but i don’t see him on there. Could be an indication that the two Cyber Subs slots are indeed hiding more characters.

Take this with a healthy dose of salt (or however the saying goes) of course. Interesting move set if true, dive kick is kind of a weird addition. No ice clone, but ice parry instead. The concept of it seems pretty strong, gonna depend on those recovery frames and all that. Again, assuming this is true.

Maybe there are two cyber-subs because the person playin picked random and it came up with cyber-sub and the other slot is the DLC one with those other people.

and I just love how the MK devs team keep the predator look/inspiration for its Cyber Ninjas, Cyber Sub looks the best out of the cyborgs.
There are arrows at the bottom row. Apparently you can scroll through the other characters in that bottom row.

Now that the cast has been settled all thats left is the balance/gameplay itself.

Nope, but NRS revealed stuff like fatalities and, I think, costumes will be there.

^I need confirmation because I don’t want to cancel my order, to get the game a week before release from “da spot” and find out that I can’t get a hold of my classic Repppy.
Ehh, you don’t need Classic Reptile. MK9 Reptile looks cool. Holding out for classic would be a downgrade of epic proportions.
