That’s why, if they add the XRay into it and get creative imo shit could turn out pretty rad.
If the ONLY indication of Brutalities so far is a sound clip, I wouldn’t bet on them. Lots of things get scrapped in the dev process.
But yeah; from the very first second I saw X-Ray moves, I felt they would be more appropriate as brutalities. They’d have to be a bit longer, but still.

Agreed. In fact, that’s one major way I could see Brutalities being able to stand apart from Fatalities. Fatalities would be “destruction from without”, while Brutalities, extending from the X-Rays, focus on “destruction from within”.
I mean, seeing some one rip a guy’s heart out isn’t so special any more. But what about something that would just basically do more to see the heart being ruptured, as it and the ribcage were crushed it under duress, and then seeing it give a few faint beats before bleeding out? That’s exactly the kind of thing I could see making Brutalities interesting again, instead of perhaps what we had before.
This reminds me of when they announced Cloud for Dissidia: Final Fantasy. I couldn’t even get worked up about it, I was just like “jesus, tell me something I don’t know.” Not that I’m not happy to see Liu Kang. It isn’t Mortal Kombat without him.
Those were so lame.
For the most part they are quite lame, although the Captain Marvel Head Spike does make me laugh every time I see it.
Some of the moves themselves are pretty good. Green Lantern’s “I’ma gonna put you in this bubble…then I’ma gonna CRUSH!” And Superman’s beatdown is pretty much a more painful looking version of Sheeva’s MK3 fatality.
What makes them funny is the name. “Heroic Brutality”? A little bit of moral dissonance there. Makes you think they did it on purpose to lampshade the irony.
If they were that clever, you’d think they would have given us a better game. 
Maybe Raiden of the present could send a vision to his past self, so he may relay that info to Ed Boon and John Tobias of '97.
