MK9 | News & Discussion (Updated as news happens!)

I try every day :frowning: .

Am I the only one who would like to see Kreate a Fatalities return in a future MK? Not the lame version we saw in MKA, but one where everyone has their own custom moves. Maybe in the future games, there’s one or two regular fatalities, and if you finish off the round with a full super meter, you can perform a custom. Everyone has the same “types” of attacks they can do (head attack/body attack/mutilation), and the same button presses, but the type of stuff people can link together is different. Stuff like that.

I keep thinking it’s infeasible, but it would be awesome considering their current violence presentation.

I’m just thinking it’s sad that the X-Ray moves (awesome as they are) are going to be more relevant than fatalities. When you do a fatality a certain amount of times, you really don’t care to see it any more. That may be more or less true with X-Rays, but at least they’ll be a valuable tool in Kombat. Fatalities have nothing to keep them interesting after the first few times of watching them (unless they’re THAT awesome).

Hey Tim,

Do you have contact with NRS? Do you know what they are doing with the button config? Tell them to do it like BB. I just double checked it on MKDC, and it’s basically like HDR, where you highlight the action and then press the button to assign it.

I hope they keep it that way. Alot of people will be using the TE stick to play this, so I hope that part is easy in tournaments.

I am personally gonna playit like SC/VF. Put block on LK, then the far right 4 for the attacks (will disable LP).

they havent and wont tell me much about it, but it will play similar to old school MK.

I 'd.

Here is to hoping that it is not just fatalities, that we’ll get babalities and friendships added into the mix. It is a shame that Netherrealm Studios didn’t take some cues from Arc Systems by adding a fatality mechanic in the gameplay, though I suppose it is better to have a solid framework in the meantime than to try something that elaborate. Maybe we’ll get it in the next game/version, but for now, I prefer the way things are for now.

If I remember right they’ve confirmed there will only be three finishing types. Fatalities and Friendships I think are both in. But Babalities aren’t.

I was pretty sure they confirmed the other type at some point too, but can’t remember.

As far as I understand it was Brutalities that are in, and specifically not friendships.

“BRUTALITY” was in those leaked soundclips from a while back, and they’ve been real adamant that they didn’t wanna have silly shit like friendships.

IMO the fatalities and brutalities should be build into the game, but friendships and babalities should be DLC. Maybe even separate DLC packs. People would totally buy them.

Brutalities were the worst of the finishers imo. I’ve still never completed one on MKT because they are just stupid. Fatalities and Babies (babies as in the MK3 engine that you couldnt block the winning round to perform one. getting beat by someone that didnt have to even block you is EMBARASSING. trust me! LMAO  )

From what I remember about brutalities, they just seem like glorified ultra combos ripped from Killer Instinct used in a mocking fashion, which in itself is pretty silly. Seeing characters doing something similar in this new game will look awkward as hell.

I expect some sort of theme packaged matchenders to be DLC. I mean, they basically developed an online system allowing for quick patching, and that support ain’t going to come for free. Friendships being a theme for DLC will definitely earn WB a pretty penny.

So it looks like the MK3 ninjas are getting the same retro costumes as the ones already announced

I understand it’s “retro” ,but cmon. I dont know how I feel about this

Well, I’d like to think they would do something different with Brutalities this time.

I mean, you’d think something that was obviously some what inspired by Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) would have fit right in with the MK aesthetic. A pity it didn’t quite work out that way last time. Here’s hoping.

THAT’s my favorite part of babalities.

but I dunno, with this new engine and new hotness they might be able to make brutalities interesting and not completely impossible. a high execution finisher like that just seems so badass. In fact I hope ALL the fatalities are hard as fuck, just so its less common for random scrubs to actually be able to do them.

It would be kinda cool if they find a way to add the xray feature into brutalities, like maybe halfway into it the lights go dim and you get the xray of the opponents body getting their ribs broken, organs obliterated and shit generally fucked up… that shit would be pretty fucking money.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s fair to really judge brutalities right away, chances are they’ll do something new with it, likely involving a more drawn-out X-ray finisher, if I had to guess…hell, it might not even be a finisher, it might just be what the announcer says when a round ends with an X-ray, like a super combo finish type deal.

This might actually be the case and makes the most sense. We’ll see but good thought.

seems highly unlikely ^^

but how much could the term BRUTALITY be used after X-Rays and Fatatities? How could you get even more brutal?

I see a “Brutality” as an already defined concept.
Brutality = Big fat ridiculous finisher combo in the same vein as a fatality that makes the opponent fucking explode, or some variation of exploding.

I see Brutalities being defined by the act of being a “Brute” moreso than being “Brutal”, if that makes any sense at all… A brute that just pummels and thrashes and has no real style or flare, just a ridiculous fat disgusting combo that fucks your day up.

But I really really don’t see that Brutality soundclip being used the way CallMeTetris and Makkiworth are thinking. Like I said, a brutality has already been defined. It is what it is and to change it would upset people.

I have serious doubts that anybody would miss brutalities as they were presented in MK3. They were just not that popular. I would hope the devs are over the whole “combo the shit out of everything and fast!” mindset during the days of Killer Instinct. That kind of thing seems better suited for the MvCs of the world now.
