If it helps any, I’ve switched the Street Fighter 4 TE stick. I went from my custom built stick to the MK TE stick and now back on the SF4 TE. I think its easier to use the TE honestly just because of the closeness of the buttons vs the MK. I’ve been doing local tournaments and having better success on it.
I only play fighting games with a stick but for the life of me cannot use one on MK.
I started on a pad with mk9 and honestly it was just as good as with a stick. I ONLY use a stick now and have found mk9 fun with it even tho i lost alot of games at first. I have my triangle be block, and i move my 2 attacks from tri/o to r1/r2/. That way using empowered moves is ez, try this out its basically just like the mk9 fightstick setup. The mk9 sticks even have only 6 buttons cuz you can grab with x+square.

I really do think that pad is better for this game as the layout is better suited for one. The fact that the game doesn’t employ circle motions or anything complex to note, just simple directional taps makes it all the more obvious.
I’ve only used a pad for MK9 since I never owned a stick until recently, but of the fighting games I’ve played MK is one of the few which it does feel natural and somewhat easy to play by using a pad.
I bought these specialized VS FIGHTING pads from Gamestop (one for PS3 and one for 360) a while back. I thought I would have to give them up since it was so hard to get the diagonals consistently. Fortunately, there are no diagonals in MK so these pads are perfect. Recently switched from my SF4 fightpad to this.
Used pad on genesis with mk1… Mk9 is stick for me probably just out of comfort level
