MK Netcode - is this for real? UPATE: 1.02 PATCH IS LEGIT!

Not played online yet, but if so many seem to be having problems then there’s something probably up. If you have a great connection then cool, but chill out on telling people “it’s your connection” when the problem seems to be widespread

The game is at fault. Not entirely, but at least partially. Those matches where you’re having very little lag shouldn’t be lagging at all, and a majority of the matches that are absolutely unplayable (even against people with good connections) should only be lagging a little. NRS themselves have even acknowledged that there are issues with the game’s netcode and they’re working to fix it.

So no, it’s not just our connections (for the record, I’ve had a number of playable games myself).

I don’t know how much knowledge you have about how lag works? my guess would be, very little to none at all.

When you play games online, there is no way possible for a Lag-Free game. So for you to say that those matches shouldn’t be lagging at all is quite frankly, absolutely ridiculous…

Let me rephrase: there should be practically no perceptible lag.

Then exactly how the fuck can you say there is very little lag? I’m sorry, I don’t exactly buy it.

I’ve talked to numerous people who have really great internet service, and a good majority of them say the lag is very noticable and hindering, with a good portion of that group saying it’s unplayable in almost every case.

If by golly your connection is that good and there is very minimal lag, I wanna play on that shit.

All I can say is that I’m sorry if people are having Bad Connections with MK9, or any other game for that matter. I still stand by what I said earlier, if you have to use a Wired Router or even worse a Wireless Router while you play, your Connection is going to be worse, if not considerably worse than someone **(**even if they were to have the same internet connection you have) who Directly hooks up their Internet Connection to their XBOX/PSN.

**** Let Me Give You a Quick Example.***

Imagine the Router as a Toll Booth that you have to momentarily stop at and then leave, now imagine that the Toll Booth (ROUTER) wasn’t there and you didn’t have to Stop and Go. Anytime you stick something in the middle of the Road, your going to have more Lag than not having to stop at all.

  • I know that in some cases people have to use a Router, but I really wish more people would figure out a way to do a Direct Connect from their Modem to their Game-Console, Ive seen in a lot of cases where the difference can be Night and Day.

Hey guess what, I even gave that a shot and I had a fairly consistent level of lag whether it was playable or not. Two floors away from my wireless router I’ve had better experiences on SSFIV and, god forbid, KOFXII (worst netcode EVER).

Pull your head out of your ass, thanks.

^ than your Internet Connection must be faulty, or just plain suck man. I honestly think it might be time for you to either, switch Internet Service Providers (if at all possible) or Upgrade Your Net (if at all possible)

Problem is though I know for a fact that in Canada the Connections aren’t really all that great to begin with **( I have some friends that live over there, and play a lot of online games on LIVE/PSN that complain about the same things you do ) **so Skud in an indirect way, I can feel your pain.

Sometimes it just plain sucks where we happen to live at, and to make things worse the Internet Service Providers choices in the area are either Lacking, or aren’t willing to allow Upgrade Packages to the Consumers =(

  • anyways whatever you decide to do, I wish you the very best.

I’m no Networking/IT guru, but if you setup the WIRED router properly, their really is little to no difference(as long as no activity is happening on other connected devices)
from what people tell me you can identify the console as a dmz server but its risky, or just have static ip and dns on xbox/ps3 with port ranges properly forwarded
ive had it setup like this for years and online is smooth as a babies ass

Yea but if you were to take away the Router, and do a speed test online, I Guarantee that you would get better Connection Speeds without the Router hooked up. If you have a Router hooked up between your Modem and your Game Console, its going to slow you down.

Modem POINT-A goes directly to **Point B-Game Console
**
Modem Point-A now has to go to ROUTER POINT-B than has to go to Game Console Point-C

If you guys can’t understand that going from POINT-A to POINT-B is much faster than GOING FROM A**-B-**C THAN I DON’T THINK SOME OF YOU ARE EVER GOING TO UNDERSTAND. anyways this is my last post on the subject, good luck to everyone. I hope everyone knows I’m just trying to help though, peace.

Which would make sense if I hadn’t already said I’ve played several other games with some of the most complained about netcode* with better results. My internet connection is more than good enough to play any game online with little to no perceptible lag, and I enjoy doing so on a regular basis.

Seriously, the game is partially at fault – THE GAME’S DEVELOPER HAS STATED AS MUCH – and I don’t see why you’re so hard pressed to make everybody believe it isn’t.

*EDIT/NOTE: I honestly don’t know why people complain about SSFIV, for the record. I’ve never had problems with it, ever.

I’ve have pretty damn connections in SFIV(multiple people) and BlazBlue CS(dude who lived in Toronto). Wireless.

With rtt¹ over the 30ms you start feeling 2 or 3 frames of delay over the offline. With > 50ms it seens like 3-6 frames, and after that, trainning online starts becomming useless for me, due the game beeing based on closeup games, with frame traps based tactics; defendable moves with 3-4 startup frames and throws that are 3 frames to get active. And I wont even talk about command throws.

So or you are playing with people that are very near to you, or you cant feel the delay properly and only play for fun then the game feels fine for you, or Ive been playing the wrong SF4 for all this time.

Just to ilustrate the post, usually in ggpo’s st, you only start having netcode related issues with more than 100ms of rtt under a stable connection, using no frame buffering.

1- rtt = round trip time, is what u get when u ping someone.

PEOPLE IF YOU ARE PLAYING ON A HD TV YOUR, YOU CAN NOT QUESTION OR GIVE COMMENTS ON HOW A GAME LAGS.

REAL TALK

When ever you play fight games online you must use a CRT tv, All HDtv lag some just as must as the online lag

All aboard the troll train.

Nah man, My Samsung HD/TV Has GAME MODE and it works great.

just wanted to chime in and say that online has been extremely disapointing for me so far as well…

  1. the player and ranked “quick match” modes have worked a total of 3 times for me since launch.
  2. king of the hill mode can be ruined quickly by 1 guy joining with bad internet or is sharing connection. it happens too often.
  3. this leaves directly challenging people in the lobbies to get a match where your stuck seeing people troll the chatroom and half the people decline your challenges or don’t respond.

also…whats the point of a player match leaderboard?? isn’t that why we have RANKED MATCHES? (that don’t work)

on a positive note…Private matches with friends who i know have decent connection and are in the same state or one state over are an enjoyable experience albeit with some input delay ranging from slight to medium.

i play on a direct connection to the modem.

Game mode actually only affects 480i inputs. However, the issue is that on an HD tv the frame lag is consistent and is usually 1 or 2 frames at most. I think mine is 17ms, which is about 1 frame. MK9 is easily 10x that even in a good looking match, it tends to be really obvious if you just hit inputs as in doing a fatality at the end of a match, it looks hilarious to see them jerk around a perceptible amount after you finish hitting the inputs.

Secondly even when the lag isn’t in the 5-10 frame range, and I’d argue often more since I’ve seen .3 or .4 second discrepancies before which is more like 15-20 frames, it isn’t consistent. Worse even if you know your combos via muscle memory they’ll often drop since the juggle speed changes. At least in SSFIV that was constant until you got to pretty bad lag. Even with minimal frame lag things like reaction blocking and teching throws, and optimal punishing are hard, but in MK9 even just running through a combo you know is basically impossible.

i played about 10 games(if that) and i will never play this game again online.it sucks cause i love this game but the lagg is unplayable.gotta love when ur getting hit with infinite blockstrings cause you cant punish the other player.or getting hit with random x rays cause you cant block on reaction.honestly if youre saying that you cant notice the lag or you think the netcode is fine then, (a youre not doing combos, and just mashing specials or (b youre very fuckin lucky, or you dont know any better.

Play the same guy in SF4 - Fine
Play the same guy in BB - Fine
Play the same guy in MK9 - Not fine

I know we get 50ms ping between us, but something just isn’t right when playing MK online. Don’t know if it is for anyone else, but it seems like cancel properties change too. I’ll hit confirm a string, cancel into a special and nothing happens. Might just be lag making the cancel happen later but even if i just cancel it early with hit confirming it doesn’t come out. It’s very weird.
