MK Netcode - is this for real? UPATE: 1.02 PATCH IS LEGIT!

E-thuggin’ on a crappy phone. Priceless.

Press release came out yesterday that the online will be patched within two weeks.

My thoughts exactly. I’ve been making that exact comparison to MvC3 myself since day one.

Are you an idiot? Its a solid fighting game which is the whole reason we want to be able to play it online.

We are now almost halfway through 2011…decent online play is expected in this day and age.

MK9 is a dud. No developer can fix code this bad in a patch, it needs re-writing (ie new game). Maybe they will release a MK9 “super” edition in a year with better code. I’m selling my copy and going back to GGPO and waiting for 3S:O on console, and might even buy Blazblue also.

Can we get a link please? I’d like to read this thing. I did a google search for “MK9 patch 1.02 press release” but can’t find anything. I’m assuming it’s 1.02, because the pre release patch was 1.01.

This game is unplayable online for me. Well, it’s playable in its dumbest, low-level form of jumping around, trying to uppercut each other and mashing furiously on X-Ray. So, so disappointed.

It’s gotta be a combination of your connection and location. I had some completely lagless games, like off-line quality, so I think you need to find people that you have a better ping with.

Connection is irrelevant. If you can connect to XBL or PSN (when it works) you can play online. This game’s servers are messed up. Start there. Fix the netcode as much as possible (if it can be). Then pray.

The game is responsible for matchmaking me with players with low ping, it does a pretty piss poor job at that. Most players have been US based, I’m in the UK. Even still, playing the same players I play with SSFIV gives considerably more input lag.

Thank you. Unfortunately it says nothing about the game desynchronization when hitting two buttons together during a combo. :frowning: That’s my only beef with online. Still, good to hear they’re not turning a blind eye to their issues.

For your first point, yeah you don’t need a mechanic to know it isn’t working, but you need to be one to be able to fix it. the code is broken and obviously there is problems with servers and NRS knows this. you can’t just rent servers, its a pretty complicated process that takes more than just a day.

2nd point - just stfu. if you’ve been playing games for more than 1 year you would know that most games that are released have lots of problems due to unforeseen problems that can never really be predicted. just look at fallout new vegas. probably the glitchiest game ever (has a ton of game breaking ones also), but after a few months it was perfect. all the performance problems and gamebreaking bugs on the PC were fixed, but it took a while. really if you think about it, releasing a game is like a huge ass beta test and because you have so many more people playing, you find more bugs that the playtesters never found. these things get fixed through patches.

3rd point, they were probably trying to figure out if the problems they were having are even fixable. imagine if they said this the day after it came out and it turns out there really is no way for them to fix it due to the engine or some other crap, they would lose even more fans for lying twice. they probably have to go through thousands of lines of code which takes A LONG time and a lot of time to figure out how to fix it. if they can at least get some of the server problems fixed in two weeks that would be pretty good, then maybe they can fix other things like the netcode and the menus over a longer period of time. this stuff takes a long time to fix and i would rather wait 2 months for a totally fixed game(if its even possible, lets just assume it is for the sake of argument) than 2 weeks for quickfix that just masks the problem or doesn’t even totally fix it.

4th point - every company gets away with sub par crap, just look at Apple and its overpriced computers that are really bad for anything other than facebook and maybe some video editing. stop whining and be happy they can ever patch it b/c if this came out 10 years ago you would have to buy a whole other fucking game. with the internet, companies can fix software all the time for a minimal charge compared to before where you would have to buy a whole other version of the same product.

hopefully NRS can fix the netcode, but from what i’ve seen, i’ve never seen a fighting game’s netcode fixed, even though GGPO has always improved its netcode so i don’t if its the laziness of the developers or if there really is a reason why they can’t fix it.

the only point where you are right is where you expected more and didn’t get it and that’s only because a few days before the game hit, NRS said it was going to have great online play. however we can’t go back in the past and fix it, so we just have to hope that NRS can fix.

I agree and disagree with some of that but that is another discussion. I have no problem with you catz getting your “Online experience”, but when players make Online the end all be all when it comes to the game things get comical.

No.

MK has bigger issues then online play, I rather see those fixed before that lag/delay fest that is decent Online play.

I can fool my Xbox into believing that a 56K modem is a broadband connection and connect to XBL. It used to happen a lot when high speed internet was too expensive or unavailable in areas back in the OG XBox and PS2 days. Even though it will connect to XBL, games can’t be played online without massive, prohibitive lag. Even someone that doesn’t go to such great lengths to play online, a 256K DSL connection that’s 20 miles from the junction box is going to be much worse than someone sitting a block away from it.

So no, connection isn’t irrelevant. People with 50 year old wiring in their building or people that live in the sticks and have a DSL line can’t expect the same connection quality as a person with a business class connection in the middle of the city. It’s not a matter of lag, netcode, or whatever other uninformed jargon anyone wishes to throw out, sometimes it’s just pure physics.

This guy… Alright, listen here steakhead
This game promised superb online play, and we want us some superb online play. Not everyone is a raging competifag especially when it comes to MK.

If i can run SSF4 on my console and play online jsut fine, then there’s really no excuse why NRS couldn’t have achieved the same.

So yes connection is irrelevant, and anyway noone is going to rewire their house or change their ISP just to play MK.

and not everyone has a local scene. Or not everyone wants to drop everything and waste gas just to play a fucking video game.

No they’re not. They’re going to get on an online forum and cry about how the “netcode” for the game sucks. See how that works?

And for the record, I get just as many bad connection matchups in SSF4 as I do MK9 (~10%). People using SSF4 for as the gold standard for online play should be pointed at while laughing.

Not really, why don’t you draw us a diagram and explain.

And no one was saying SSF4 was the gold standard. I simply said that it works fine when i play it and that if MK worked as well I wouldbn’t have a problem.

You can put your sarcasm away now, you’re not impressing anyone.
