What i expect them to say, as a face saving public relations exercise, and what I feel they ought to say are too different things.
I understand how these things work, I just don’t like it.
It’s clear that NRS really believed their piss poor programming was enough and it wasonly a couple of days ago that the weight of complaints started filtering through. I don’t think they even really understand the problem. That statement doesn’t explain anything nor does it offer any admission that they got it wrong, so i don’t get how we can have any faith they will fix it adequately. I don’t doubt there will be a couple of patches, I just doubt they can repair the online to an acceptable standard as that will require a complete refit.
I’ve been more than patient with them, we are on their time don’t forget. BUt i see zero evidence for believing things will get better beyond ‘we are nrs and we say so’. More importantly i think that if we all sit back and accept them at their word without keeping the pressure on they will continue to coast by.
the hell… if how they handled mkvsdc was any indication, no patching will be enough to improve the online. it will probably shit till the very end. i hope im wrong… really/ the game is great. but it makes MVC3 online look godsend.
We have 2 weeks to see if it gets better or not.
If it doesnt get better fuck Mk and Fuck NRS
If they fix the netcode or whatever the hells wrong with it yay them.
Netcode is only half the problem. Again, decent search filters are a must. Fixing the server would surely havebeen an easy place to start, why isn’t there even any mention of that?
If they at least did that it would be a start. If we had a decent server arrangement then we could at least have a place to work from with regards to netcode and such. Surely sorting that out can’t take more than a day?
Whoever thinks a properly konfigured router slows things down to noticeable levels compared with a direct konnection into your modem is clearly smoking something.
Wishing the best for the netcode to be patched in this.
From my naiive interpretation, NRS didn’t make any promises of improving the netcode, but did say they’d improve the matchmaking in KOTH & Ranked.
A step in the right direction anyhow. As like every game since SF4, I’ll be avoiding online. Game is apparently fun for the time being so it should keep folks occupied.
EDIT:
How old are you? You expect stuff to be fixed right away? So we should just guess what’s wrong, patch that in, lose $$$ for said patch, and have to go through user woes if it doesn’t do anything the first time around. Be patient, play it offline as it should be played, and hope the patch helps things out.
Would only affect matchmaking since actual gameplay/lobby hosting is P2P. TBH I haven’t really had much trouble with matchmaking personally, though I know a lot of others have.
“specifically with “King of the Hill” and Ranked 1 v. 1 matches”? It’s not just with these two options it’s with anything that happens on that crappy thing they call their online experience. Even if I seek out a 1v1 match in a room ranked or not it’s never satisfactory.
Should? Who said it should be played one way or the other? You? I don’t know what version of the game you purchased but mine says on AND offline play. Maybe you live in a different culture to me, but where I come from if you charge money for a published product such as this you are supposed to make sure all parts are working as advertised. The developers have had plenty of time and opportunity to make sure they did their jobs properly and were quite happy to say that was the case. Now when that’s proven to be rubbish, all it takes is a vague promise of ‘things will be fixed’ and suddenly NRS are heroes.
If you want to know my age, look at my profile. I’m not sure what bearing it has on the situation. I’m old enough to know that NRS and WB should have done better by their customers.
gonna lose a lot of players, and potential next game customers. i’ll probrablly wait because i want the game to be good, but from a smart buisness standpoint, and in the intrest of keeping an expanded player base, they should try to get it done before june
isnt PSN still down? how the fuck are you getting any matches at all?
It’s a huge part of, yeah. It’s 2011, being able to play online with decent stability is something we should expect now. Look at the EVO online tournaments, the online Revelations tournament, even something as silly as the Mike Ross/Gootecks adventures, or Daigo playing people online through Capcom. We have top players in the scene, like Wolfkrone, who came directly from online. ‘Defining’ is kind of a loaded word, but online play is a huge part of establishing a vibrant community and scene, so I’m happy that the MK team will be working on improving the online experience.
Don’t take it as a personal insult. I’m just saying it’s unrealistic to expect a fix to the servers ‘within a day or so’. New problems = time required.
I’m not saying NRS are heroes. I agree with you bashing NRS up to the fact that it took them this long to acknowledge problems. They still haven’t addressed netcode as far as I can comprehensively read their statement. You, I, and many of us here are annoyed at it. All they’ve said was something about improving the matchmaking functions, with no promises or acknowledgements about the netcode itself.
They will get all parts working as advertised, but the actual performance of the parts isn’t strictly defined by anyone but themselves. It is up to us, the customers, to do the ultimate quality control by speaking with our cash.
And btw, I’m in the UK. The age comment was just an immediate reaction to wanting an insta-fix. I still haven’t bought this game yet, for your information. I understand you’re irritated, but saying things are simply fixed by adding a few servers isn’t taking all factors into account.
Do all of us a favor: Stop assuming you even begin to know anything about game design, let alone server management.
At the core of the matter there is the fact that both pinning down the specific problems with the netcode, and then coming up with a fix for them takes time, there are no exceptions on the matter. It’s not as easy as “Oh blah blah blah they should have started before” because they very certainly have, and are working at the best pace they can manage. What the hell else do you think they’ve been doing with their time? Sitting around on the beach sipping Mai Tais?
You also have to consider that any formal press announcement, as well as the funding for any such repairs to netcode, all go through Netherrealm’s parent company, Warner Brothers. For this reason, it’s possible maybe they’ve been literally incapable of making any kind of solid announcement until now. It’s not necessarily as easy as “oh they should have told us sooner”. Even the simple act of making a tweet is considered not-kosher until NRS is 100% positive of what they can announce with any certainty.
Finally, it’s not like NRS have all of their servers just sitting around the office and can suddenly just produce more. The whole thing has to go through GameSpy (Ha!), and the process takes time for setup and testing before any of the server changes are made available to the consumer product.
tl;dr Stop assuming nothing is being done, stop being an impatient git, and most of all stop blaming NRS for every little thing, because they’re not the only party at fault for any of this.
EDIT: Also, if NRS’ developmental pace isn’t up to your high-ass standards, send them a resume and see if you can do any better. Otherwise quit your bitching because you’re only annoying the rest of us, and making yourself look like a total goof.
LMMFAO @ anyone and everyone who says the clusterfuck is not solely the company’s fault… and ROTFLMMFAO @ those who honesty believe they give two shits about fixing it, now that they already have your monies. Stay free, in all aspects of life, suckers.
I didn’t say they should fix it in a day. They’ve had a week to get a handle on the problems. Problems that were posted almost immediately. Problems that shouldn’t have appeared in the first place.
If these people are good enough to fix this mess, then I have to wonder why they programmed it that way in the first place.
This isn’t an immediate demand for the impossible it’s a recognition of yet another online game down the toilet due to lazy development. The question is whether you are preopared to let NRS off the hook or whether you, like me, feel that keeping the pressure on is the best way. Personally I think the very least they could do is start posting daily updates on their forum as to what, specifically, they are doing.
There’s no other industry you’d get away with releasing crap and expecting the custopmer to allow you to fix it later.
Where did I ever give that impression? FortunatelY I don’t need to know anything about those things because I’m not responsible for fixing them.
What knowledge do I need to see the servers and the game aren’t working as they should? If i buy a car and it breaks down, I don’t need to be a trained mechanic to know it ain’t working.
Of course they take time, but they have had time. They had development time, testing time and time since the game was released. If they can’t even muster up a decent explanation beyond some vague bullshit about ‘two weeks’ then I have little hope of them not only fixing netcode, but completely redesigning the online which is what they will have to do. As well as sort the servers out.
They might as well have been as it’s clear that typing a simple message to post on their forum took 8 days.
It’s not remotely relevant to me how easy it is, they are the ones that have to fix it not me. And they have been paid for their product as well. The game wasn’t a freebie.
You need to grow up and get a backbone mate, if you’re willing to allow these companies to get away with sub par crap then that’s your business. I expect more than I’m getting and I’m entitled to - that’s what I paid for.
Clusterfuck is about right. I really don’t think people realise just how much is going to need to be changed. This is way beyond a simple coding update or patch. There have been 3 updates for this game already, I got one a couple of hours ago. No idea what they are for, but they have made zero difference to the online component at least.
What happens if they don’t fix it in two weeks? You wait another two, three, four? How long is a piece of string?
