this works OFFLINE as well. go into training mode and it will “remember” moves as well, it isn’t just online … that is why i’m saying, “technically” when they said “combos will work online the same as offline” they were in a way correct … however they basically played us for fools with that comment. as you said, combos are not the be all end all. they mean nothing if you can’t punish attacks on reaction with the combos cause lag ins atrocious.
oh trust me, i am not disagreeing with you in the slightest, i agree 100%. i’m just saying that these people claiming combos work offline just as they do online, in a way, are correct. and the ones saying the netplay is “fine” because of this, they probably are not very skilled at fighters in general, and probably mash out combos online and offline, and the dial-a-combo system in this game remembers what they mashed. to people who just don’t know any better, they may think this game has BETTER netcode due to the fact they can mash combos online in this game and they work.
in other fighters, even the dial-a-combo tekken, there is some kind of timing needed for these combos, whereas in MK there is absolutely none needed. you just mash them out, and the game plays catchup for you.
I played some guy from the otherside of the planet earlier (thanks to the crap matchmaking and lack of search options). He had 300 wins and 30 losses! How someone can even find that many matches is beyond me! Something very odd here.
He picks Ermac. Well that’s part of the puzzle; some characters dominate the online as is, especially when they have host advantage - I assume that to be the caseas he was in the player1 position. I can’t be sure.
The lag was not the noticable stuttering kind, though there’s plenty of that. But it’s still sluggish, delayed. I give up at the point I go into a crouching block (which is easy to see since you are crouching and blocking) and then he sweeps me. If that’s not lag then I don’t know what is. I was completely unable to react quick enough to deal with the teleport green lift (whatever ermac’s shit is, i don’t play him) moves. The environment is just impossible to deal with.
Finally got in some matches last night that were playable (for casual fights), but after about 5 or 6 games the screen freezes and I get a message saying that the game session has become unsynchronized and got booted back to the online menu. Seems there is just no way around the crappy online right now.
The netcode isnt brilliant - however just a note : if you have the “Social Networking” options turned on - turn them off. They make the game 10 times as laggy. Honestly, everytime you do something and the game reports the stats to the servers, you will experiance mega lag.
hope this helps a little, but yes, the Netcode isnt great. its a crying shame cause the bread and butter fighting is fucking excellent.
Why are people ‘White Knighting’ this netcode its horrendous. Theres really no excuse for them taking a jab at other fighters netcodes in interviews then giving us this pile of garbage.
I’ll be quite honest, i’m not even sure the game is balanced. I can almost guarantee wgho my opponent will pick just by their w/l ratio. While people praise the gameplay, I think many are overlooking just how potentially unbalanced it may well turn out to be. These guys also have a huge advantage online because of the speed of the teleport attacks.
I have issues with Ermac, Scorpion and Raiden. They seem a bit too good. People also pick Smoke a lot; all these guys have teleport moves which are so quick. There’s a connection there.
Its balanced, just not online. Every character has a 30-50% combo thats very simple but many characters cant hit it online. So until it gets fixed the Scorpions will continue to spam ‘Get Over Here’ followed by the 3 hit dial-a-combo.
I’ll agree on Raiden and Ermac, with Raiden especially since he doesn’t commit to an attack when he teleports and stays on the ground, meaning he can throw, sweep, ex superman, etc. Smoke and Scorpion are cool since you can bait their teleports, block, then punish. Smoke’s teleport attack bounces on both high and low block so he’s the easiest of those mentioned.
As for me, I hate playing online since I need to visually match up Stryker’s launch and his jumping 1 to get his combo working. With the input lag going on I continually drop the combo. I have to play like a spammer with Stryker in laggy matches =/.
Might I just inquire what combo you’re talking about? I’m a Stryker main, and while I find his combos impossible online, the only one I can think of that uses a jumping 1 is pretty rare. But yeah, I pretty much haven’t played online since I realized his combo actually involves some timing offline, (Since you have to wait for them to fall or they’ll not get caught by the gunshot) so it’s impossible online. I can play Sub-Zero/Cyber Sub (My secondaries) kinda okay, because their combos just amount to “do the juggle ASAP.”
If you havnt set it up mate its probably not enabled. I just know enabling it makes it worse than it already is… I ended up turning it back off it also added lots of “menu lag”.
anyhow, hopefully the connectivity issues will get patched (i am hopefull, but fuck knows) - like i said i like the bread a butter play, just a shame its fairly terrible connectivity.
