How exactly do you built meter in this game then?
I get an astounding number of people who pull the plug and quit the instant I get a single significant combo in. No matter what it is or even if it’s the first and only damage I did that round.
It’s likely true that MK has and will continue to draw in people who have zero experience with fighting games online and have absolutely no mental fortitude.
I did join a king of the hill room last week and was treated to one guy bitching nonstop that he was never playing the game online again because everyone was “so cheap” and just uses “the easy characters to win” and that is why “I never won one game so far”.
Most people who play online games on consoles are experienced only with FFA or team based first person shooters that lack the intensity of 1-on-1 dueling. It is easy for someone to feel they’re a bad ass for sitting across a map in Call of Duty and sniping people - even if they don’t win the match overall, they enjoyed a powerful feeling of dominating targets.
Fighting games aren’t like that. There is one winner and one loser. Ideally, losing should still be somewhat enjoyable if you manage to treat it as a learning experience and have the urge to try again to refine your strategy. For the uninitiated however, it must seem like The Special Hell and “totally unfair”.
