MK 2011 Demo!

I have a question that maybe someone can help me with - I’ve read a bunch about dash canceling normals. How does that work? In this game, can you dash cancel any normal? On hit? On block? Both?

Help! And thanks in advance.

happened to me too once after a really long session of Versus mode to test things out

Using Sub-Zero:

j.2 > 2,1,2 > Iceball > dash > dash > 2,1 > Slide
From a successful raw freeze: j.2 > 2,1,4 > Slide
In the corner: 2,1,4 > Iceball > 2,1,4 > Slide

The first and third of these combos can be ended with Deep Freeze(Sub-Zero’s X-Ray) instead of Slide. If you want to combo into X-Ray from a midscreen raw freeze, try j.2 > 2,1,2 > X-Ray.

what the hell u guys mean with 1 2 3 4 ???

Maaan is it just me, but I kinda got really frustrated after playing the demo… The graphics look damn blury and bright, they remind me of vanquish, that was one hell of a blury game. The sound is also bad. I use the X-ray but the sounds of breaking bones is kinda I dunno not loud enough, not scary enough I dunno how to put it in words, but the overall feeling about the game is strange, half-baked. I run SSF4, I go to training room, I land 1 hit with any character and it SOUNDS and LOOKS more painful than any x-ray in the game lol. The hell, wish I wouldn’t download that demo, now I’m in doubt… Shit I really hope it’s an early early build and that in the final version the graphics ain’t blurry and so damn bright as they are now, and the sound is good and juicy. I really hope so man ):

P.S. scorpions throw sucks ): Why would they replase his sword stabbing animation from the first videos with this wierd spear throw lol.

FP BP FK BK I assume.

And yeah, louder sound effects on X Ray would be cool.

blurry and bright? Sounds like your TV, because that’s… literally the exact opposite of what I’ve seen everywhere else.

1 2
3 4

thats basically how your layout looks.

Tekken notations.

The fighting engine seems pretty unintuative. But, it could also just be my lack of creativity.

Scorpion is kinda easy mode, dangit, now my favorite character is going to be the Ken of this game.

yup, 1111111111111 is pretty easy mode indeed

how do i activate the run button???

I thought the demo was OK, until I got into it a bit more, to the point where I could very easily kill the CPU on expert (because “easily” wasn’t enough after looking at those videos). The game is looking good right now. Not sure if it’ll stack up to all the major players (Street Fighter, Tekken) when it comes out, but it’s definitely looking to be the best MK since UMK3 (though that isn’t saying much). They’re definitely trying. I’m just hoping a slew of broken shit doesn’t get past them.

Well yeah, I played tekken as well, and I too think that you don’t feel the punch in there. But man that’s kinda like it always been in those series. They basically didn’t change much of the sounds and looks of the hit confirms since, I dunno Tekken 2-3? So people already used to it and most of the fans appreciate it. But MK is a different case.
You could say that the sound is kinda unrealistic in SSF4 but, dude we have here a game with freakin people who control ice and evil sorcerers who rips of the souls of their victims, why the hell do we need a realistic sound there? It’s just I dunno. Maybe it’s the demo cuz I can’t customize the video\audio options in there, we’ll see what’s what when april comes.
But overall - the main disapiontment for me was the blur. Why the hell did they put the blur in there? I want to see a sharp image, not some blury shit ):

Seriously dude? I’m not an idiot or smth, I know how to customize the brightness of my monitor. God of War 3 looks dark as it should. I run MK demo and it looks bright man. And (hate to say it a million time) blurry ):

Yeah that thought crossed my mind as well. Like bayonetta and RDR. I think theyre adding blur to PS3 ports cuz they can’t do antialiasing on there properly. So to make the image smoother they add blur. Which makes it even worse…

Could’ve fooled me.
Predictable joke.

I’ve gotta say, this game looks like it actually has some potential. Im ashamed of it now, but I used to be a HUGE MK fan during my 2nd year of high school, and I would make a dumbass of my self doing all of the fighting stances from the game around my friends and such… Really sucks that instead of SF, KOF, or something like Tekken, I fell in love with a completely overrated fighting franchise like MK. All of the MK’s on Xbox/PS2 were completely broken beyond belief, and had absolutely no real fighting engine whatsoever. All you ever had to do was take your weapon out and do a pop up move, then do the characters longest auto combo move for about 50% damage, then repeat. When I began to realize how terrible MK was as a game, I just moved on and started playing other stuff. Last MK that was good and even played at tournaments was UMK 3, and that doesn’t necessarily have the greatest fighting engine in the world either. Ed Boon had always said that he never wanted to make a real complex engine cuz he wanted there to be a fighter that everyone would just be able to pick up and play, but that doesn’t account for making a fighting game with a non existent engine.

I was skeptical when I first heard that they were actually gonna try and make a deeper fighting engine for MK 9. Since MK vs DC only came out in 2008, I laughed at the idea of them being able to make an acceptable engine in only 3 years, since all the other giants (SF, TK, KOF etc…) Have almost 4-5 years in between a major release and they already have had good engines. But so far it looks like I might be wrong, the terrible auto combo system has been scrapped from the looks of it. Sure there are still some auto combos, but not the 12 hit ones from the past generation from MK. I think the X Ray moves might be a little too powerful, I saw someone do a Johnny Cage combo (Cage’s X Ray is a counter, but you can use it to start a combo) starting with the X Ray move, and it looked like it took almost 30% of the life bar. Hopefully that is nerfed a bit. The juggle system looks alot better too, it looks like its alot harder to be able to juggle people now, you gotta know specifically what moves can keep the guy in the air. But I’m still not completely sold yet, even if I had the money now I wouldn’t go out and reserve it. Im gonna wait for a bit to see the match videos on youtube when it finally does come out then I’ll know for sure if the fighting engine is good enuff.

I reckon johnny’s x-ray should do a nice amount of damage considering it’s a counter.

I’m gonna play through the demo a few more times and never touch it again after today.
Anybody else think the Kombat is as fast as you make it?

I’ve not had a chance to play it whatsoever. It looks good so far but how is the combo system? Is it autocombos like UMK3 or MK4 (which was basically jump in HK, HP, HP, HP, LK, HK, HP etc) or is it like the magic series, what would you compare it too?

Thanks I’ll try them out later =D
Speaking of which how do X-Rays work? I did it one time by pressing R2+L2 and it worked like a counter attack…
