Wow, gonna take some getting used to for these special move imputs. I keep trying to do Mileena’s Ball with :qcf: for some reason.
QCF/QCB motions work. I was using them for Scorpion. I really like the demo. I wish I had some offline comp around that doesn’t play SFIV. I already pre-ordered the Kollector’s edition. If the online is reliable I will be on often.
I dunno, qcf’s are the least of my problems. Mileena’s Ball is like then :d:, Teleport is :f::f:… just kinda weird. Gonna take me a while to adjust, lol. Haven’t played a real MK for a long time.
Also, meter gain… not sure if I’ll ever get used to that.
Would it help if I suggested doing the roll motion like you would with an alpha counter? (which was :db: :d: right?)
has anyone experienced a freezing glitch yet? I just got the demo for PS3 and gameplay-wise, it’s awesome. But I was just watching the title screen/CPU fighting itself for a while, and then it froze. Cage was fighting Sub-Zero, he did his shadow kick, and then the screen is totally frozen…and the system is unresponsive. no buttons do anything, it’s stuck. Not a good sign
im loving the controls, but I am having trouble with the meter gaining. That last bit either takes a fuckton to finally fill, or I’m just not understanding it.
Loving the combos and the crazy ass amount of blood. Won a match as Cage, and he was COVERED lol
Meter gain is a little different. You gain meter by
- Doing specials (Hitting or missing makes no difference)
- Having your attacks blocked. (Builds meter kinda fast)
- Getting hit.
You DO NOT get any meter from landing a hit. May be why it seems to take awhile to build meter
Two things.
- There was some bad motherfucker named Jeff who brought a setup of the demo to Final Round XIV. The demo drew a huge crowd. Even Justin seemed entertained.
- I’m really liking Sub-Zero the more I play him. He’s teaching me how to be safe and how to take calculated risks. Mindgames are easy with him too.
demo also available on youtube

Hmmm, I’ll give that a try. Demo’s kinda addictive, lol…
Yeah I’ve been most sucessful with Sub Zero so far. My… demo main. Figuring out new combo’s is very fun.
On a side note, am I crazy or can you not use the custom configurations you set in options in actual matches?
I set Block to R1 and Flip Stance to R2 and it saves, but as soon as I go back to Single Player/ Versus it’s back on default.
I gotta say I’m enjoying the game. From presentation to the game play, this game is really shaping up to be something great. I’m just loving every minute of this game. I’m most playing with Scorpion and Cage but I’m gonna move on over to Mileena and Subby Wubby later lol.
Combos are fun and are as customizable as MVC3’s are which is a good thing. I can think of a combo and BLAM I can do it. Thing is you really have to get used to the system. There is very strict timing in this game when it comes to combos. It feels good comboing into a x-ray. I haven’t been able to do any of those 60% combos yet but I’m getting there lol
Movement is good for the game, like the combo’s you really have to get used to the game. It could be better but its nothing to really complain about. It’s one of those things that grows on you the more you play around. foward-dashing dashes you far, which you will need to close in on your opponent and when doing a combo. Back-dashing is reasonable and give you enough room so you can whiff punish stuff.
I have to get used to using the block button again and a lot of other things. It really is an aggressive game and I believe turtling won’t have as much profit. My only true complaint is gaining meter on offense, which you can only get by using special moves and when your opponent blocks(on offense). I"d rather them give you meter while you are hitting your opponent. I think they did what they did because you use a lot of special moves in your combos but at the same time it’s usually not enough.
Otherwise great demo and I will be purchasing this game…
At char select, open player options and select the presaved control scheme you want.
It feels so good to be playing an Mk game again. I am loving this demo. It isn’t possible to do the living forest stage fatality in the demo is it? Has anyone gotten that to work?
Found a weird bug where Sub Zero does his slide backwards at the end of a round. Also, I am only touching the Back Punch button to make this happen. I’m not performing the slide special at all.

Edit: Nevermind, not a bug. Just another weird Mortal Kombat thing to keep characters from being in the corner at the end of a round.
in character select screen press Square then change Default into Preset 1. you only need to do this once
Cool, thanks guys. This helps.
On another side note, I wrote a basic gameplay FAQ on Testyourmight.com’s MK9 subforum. Do you guys think it would be okay to post it here on SRK’s MK subsubforums? Or should I not do that?
Sub-Zero combo in the corner that makes me laugh for years:
2,1,4 > Iceball > 2,1,4 > Deep Freeze
10 hits, 52% damage
Could someone provide combos for Johnny, Sub and Scorpion? Just got the demo and I’d really like to do some combos but I have no idea wtf I’m doing.
At least fatalities are easier to do :V
These are the bnbs I’ve been using:
Sub-Zero: b+1, 2 xx freeze, 2, 1, 4 xx slide
Johnny: f+4, dash, 2, 1, f+2 xx shadow kick
Scorp: 1, 1 xx spear, b+2, air throw
Nothing too crazy of course, I didn’t get the hang of Scorp’s teleports or anything, just quick and dirty stuff I came up with running through arcade once or twice with each of 'em.
Nope, maybe your system overheated.
