Mirrors Edge Catalyst

I just heard today listening to the Epic Battle Axe podcast. EA has canceled the follow up to one of the funnest and best experiences of this console generation. For those of you who remember I made the original Mirrors Edge thread and although the game had its issues I always thought it was fun and a new experience for gamers. The biggest kick in the ass seems to be the reason it got canceled is because it did not include multiplayer. If this is true fuck you EA, that is a shitty reason to cancel this game. I am sorry Mirrors Edge is conducive to having TDM. Not every game has to have multiplayer. This for me at least is certainly bad news, although I am sure most of you will not care.

Woah.

That’s just extreme.

As I see it.

Man, that really sucks. I liked Mirror’s Edge also, especially dat soundtrack. That’s what made me get the game, was browsing the PSN store and noticed the Mirror’s Edge theme for download, listened to it and bought the game the next day.

/sigh, EA.

I liked it, although I did not like running away from a fight all the time and the infinite health…bland environments (not active enough) aside I liked it

bad move for EA, it would have sold well…

  1. That sucks, the game was kinda hot, though I can’t complain as I never bought the offical one, just never had the time to play it between my heavy weight titles.
  2. If EA wants to get something out of it…simply turn it into a Playstation Move/Xbox Kinetic title.
  3. Multiplayer would be easy…just turn it into time trials with a split screen. use LODs to keep frame rate smoothe.

Hell Mirror’s Edge on the iPad is actually a decent game and that didn’t even have the ‘get sick’ graphics. Hell this might actually sell me on a Kinekt/move.

i would have liked a sequel so they could have fixed all the problems with the game play design of the first one

Wow well done EA, the only game you’ve made in the past decade that didn’t make me want to punch everyone that worked on it :wonder:

I was looking forward to Mirror’s Edge 2 just for the multiplayer. ME1 is the only game I’ve ever cared about how I ranked compared to my other friends too lol. Time trials were so addictive.

it was something pretty innovative done in first person. too bad not enough people gave it a chance.

I imagine I’m late to the party, but I assume ME1 was worth picking up huh? Might go back and get it…

I hope EA doesn’t do that across the board, bye bye Dragon Age 2.

isn’t there another FPS coming out that’s multiplayer, and lets u pretty much do the same shit?
can’t remember the name, but they showed a video for it, and some gameplay, at last years E3

that sucks. i was just playing this game with some friends last week. we just did multiplayer the old fashioned way and passed the controller after someone messed up.

it reminded me a lot of trick jumping in Q3 and i always loved to see that so ME really appealed to me from the jump. multiplayer doesn’t seem like it would be that hard to do. i mean couldn’t they have like obstacle courses or maybe like a horse mode.

Considering how everyone got rid of their copy once they finished it, I wouldn’t be surprised if EA did that… Face it, you can really only play an offline single player mode for so long… to EA, Multiplayer is their answer to replay value.

That’s weak, but knowing the company from the inside…I’m not surprised on the reason why the canceled it. [-p

Brink, though I still havent seen actual gameplay of the freerunning feature.

Isn’t that hugely popular though??

Like most game company’s the people that make these decisions don’t actually play videogames so they don’t know how good a concept or product they have unless it brings in major $'s.

woooooooowww… thats pretty wack on EA’s part. I felt like a GREAT IDEA was set with the first game. But a perfect realization of that idea could have been made with the sequel. The industry is effed up. Sometimes you have to believe in certain brands. The nature of success isn’t always on the 1st attempt.

I’m saying use Kinect and Move and the problem is solved, they could even port it to the Wii that way…sell it to the casual player yet maintain the complexity for th more advanced players. The game lends tself perfectly to motion controls.

Yes Mirrors Edge has its issues but it is a fun game where combat is actually not the main point of interest.

Supposedly after Dragon Age 2 EA is going to have a policy that all games have to have a MP component to it or it will not be shipped. Really that is a pretty weak move, not every game has to have MP or even needs it.

MP DLC brings in more $$$ than SP DLC. You better believe that EA, the company that sent out memo’s to developers to not fully finish games so they can finish it as DLC and make money, will nickel and dime everything to death.
