Good stuff in Chicago guys! Congrats to Baka and Erik for taking first in 3S and 2K2! Good showing as well, Desmond, with 2 top 3 finishes. Jesse (who probably won’t even read this), good job on 3rd in HDR - and it looks like both Jesse and Wes (Was??:bgrin:) placed top 5 in ST as well.
I watched a bit of the HDR and SSF4 finals late on Saturday night. Floe’s Juri looked quite good. She looks to be a force to be reckoned with in that game.
I’m still trying to decide if we should do a RanBat either this weekend or two weeks from next weekend (5/29). Any thoughts or preferences?
So I’m up from my sleep after MWC, and I’ll share my thoughts!
DAY 1
I did not enjoy DAY 1 of MWC (Saturday). Waited almost 2hrs to play my first winners match. When I got knocked to losers, I had to wait almost 5hours until my losers match. The venue was small and crowded ass hell. So what did I do during my hours of wait? Nothing really. Stood around waiting and hoping for my name to be called. I could, and did not want to leave the room because when I asked one of the staff members if I could go eat they said “sure, but you take the risk of being DQ’d if your name is called.” So I was in the room, unable to play casuals, standing around, moving around trying to avoid stinky people. When it was finally my turn to play my loser match, I had no desire to play anymore. I just somehow I played, not caring if I won or lose because I was so burned out already and felt like shit. In losers, I barely beat a Rufus, then lost to a Chun. I wasn’t able to actually go into our hotel room until I got knocked out of singles which was at around almost 11:00PM. So basically I was in the venue from 12pm, until 11pm! This shit was a horrible first day experience, made me regret coming when Saturday ended. Did not enjoy DAY 1 at all! I guess Keits + the crew did not expect such a huge turnout because the venue was so small! James and others said the Iowa “Redemption” tournament made MWC look silly.
DAY 2
Sunday was a much much better day. Woke up, showered, felt REFRESHED! Went to the ball room and there were less people! Unfortunately my performance in team tournament was extremely bad (sorry James and Caleb!), but I felt my team did well and we lost to two good teams. I got some casuals in, and had more breathing/walking space. I did not feel as shitty on day 2, played the chun that beat me in Singles in casuals and beat him convincingly at least 10-3 total. Overall I hated MWC less because of DAY 2.
Overall thoughts:
I really felt discouraged to attend anymore majors after my experience at this one. I just felt that all the negative outweighs the positives at the event. I guess if the venue was just bigger I wouldn’t have felt so shitty! James (credible source) was telling me that EVO is a lot better organized, so my plans for EVO is still on, but MWC almost made me not even want to goto EVO anymore.
ALSO!!!..I think TOURNAMENTS should have a rule -> “SHOWER ON TOURNAMENT DAYS OR BE BANNED” seriously. So many people with bad hygiene it was ridiculous.
Anyway, GOOD JOB to:
BAKA - 1st place 3rd Strike, OCVing damdai’s team in Team tournament!
Desmond - 3rd place in 3rd strike, 3rd place in KOF2002, and making people rage in team tournament! lol
Caleb - top 5 in BlazBlue, playing on a shitty pad that had shitty diagonals! and being forced to play on Stick because the laptop did not allow two pads at once.
Erik dojodestroyer - 1st place in KOF2002!
Team “Well…actually” aka Caleb and James for carrying me for most of our games! (Sorry No ROG!)
Team “Venue too small” aka Marc, Desmond, Baka for doing very well!
Wes - Top 16 in SSF4 (a game he hates), top 5 in both ST and HDR!
Jess Howard - nice meeting you, great job on top 5 in ST and HDR also!
Reggie - Top 5 T6!
Esom - Top 16 T6!
I was disappointed in my performance on DAY 1, I blame the shitty DAY 1 SATURDAY! I need an excuse for my bad performance! I was also disappointed in my performance on DAY 2, I blame myself for that .
Thanks again Marc for the ride. Also sucks that you weren’t put into the 3s brackets, considering that it is one of your favorite games. Giving you your refund does not make up for that shit.
Those who didn’t goto MWC, you didn’t miss out on too much. Well…actually if you weren’t in our car you missed out on a ton of shit. LOL!
Though maybe not SSF4 (besides Tong at Wes), it looks like MN did really well.
Looking at the results…
CvS2: Sonny and Grog (both Iowa) got 3rd and 4th?!?! they must have leveled up big, since Raging Storm MN.
KOF2K2UM: Erik got 1st, and Desmond got 3rd. Dark Geese said MightyMar was going to take it, but it doesn’t look like that happened.
3S: Baka got 1st and Desmond got 3rd.
HDR: Jesse Howard got 3rd, and Wes got 5th
ST: Jesse Howard got 4th, Wes got 5th
T6: Reggie got 4th
BlazBlue: Caleb got 5th
SSF4: Wes and Tong got 13th, out of 228 people.
I wonder how some of the other tournament results would be if Izzy and Jordan went.
Stefan: If you do hold a tournament on Saturday, I’d like to do a gauntlet with you. I don’t know if I will be able to make the tournament itself (attending a graduation early in the afternoon), but if I do make it, it would probably be midway or late in the tournament (if it starts at 6PM). If you agree to this, then we can discuss the games played and other stipulations.
After having been to a few majors and Evo I’ll have to say it’s really draining to wait around and play for your match. It doesn’t help nerves, execution etc because the mental state just puts you in a funk. For me when I go to Evo I treat it as a chance to hang with my friends and be surrounded by SF. Sure there is a small chance I might make a dent in the bracket but I don’t set my heart on it. My tournament supplies: Tunes, Food (healthy snacks), water, and…SANITIZING HAND WIPES. I might upgrade that to include air freshener… to spray onto fools.
So Tong in the end I hope you go to Evo because it would be fun to hang.
Congrats to all for kicking ass. Baka you are my 3S hero.
GS to all MN players, especially Songo with his amazing trash talk and working the crowd. He was constantly talking in Marn’s ear and Oscar when I was playing them during my tournament matches, too fun=)
I think that the venue was small, and crowded but that’s what happens when over 100 extra people show up. 228 for SSF4 is nuts, last year at Nickle City it was 86. There is no way that venue could have possibly worked. Keits was anticipating 200 total players. Next year they are going to make you preregister so they know how much room they need. Overall it was fun, keep leveling up kids-
-wes
Well it looks like most of my thoughts have been reflected already by others that posted.
Basically, Day 1 was ridiculously outrageous and retarded. NO ONE should have to wait 5 hours to play a match in a room that’s far too small, even for the amount of people they originally anticipated. After I got bumped into losers (by a Rog player that I should have beat), I went across the hall into the bar where Me, Wes, Jesse and Alex Valle all hung out, ate and had a couple beers. I felt much better and was having much more fun at that time. In fact, at that point I almost HOPED they’d just DQ me because I had NO desire to play. I just didn’t care. By the time my next match came up, I couldn’t think about what I was doing anymore because I was so drained. I lost to the same Chun that Tong lost too. A player I KNOW I could beat any other day. Oh well…that’s how it goes I guess. Like I told Tong…MWC makes the Redemption tourney look fucking AMAZING compared to this. The Chicago guys should be embarrassed with themselves. It REALLY made me wonder how the hell they could have possibly held majors before this when seemed evident that they had no idea what they were doing. With anything more than 100+ people, I feel that they should have ran at least 2 pools, similar to what EVO does. At the VERY least, they should have a large display of the bracket/progress so everyone can get a feel for how long it’ll be before their next match. Okay, enough of me venting
Day 2 WAS better, but by no means did it compensate for the disaster of day 1.
Looks like I placed 33 and Markuma got 25. I know that I could have placed higher had things been ran a bit more smooth. With that said, I’m not sure I’ll be attending MWC again - at least not until I have a strong sense that things have improved/changed.
Enough negative talk from me. Here are my highlights:
Money matching Alex Valle and nearly taking a set from him (needed one hit!) Also, played him in HDR for my first match and almost won a set, including nearly perfecting him 1 round.
Playing the team tourney was fun. I beat everyone I was initially matched up with and almost OCV’ed Damdai’s team, including beating Damdai. (Don’t sweat it Tong!)
Hanging with Wes, Jesse and Alex Valle in the bar and just chilling. After talking with Valle, I have to say that he’s definitely a nice guy and earned my respect.
Wolfkrone’s viper vs BPAmoco’s Gief. Super hype and Geif’s 2nd ultra was hilarious.
Songo trash talking Marn and getting all kinds of laughs from people around him. Marn even turned around at one point and said to Songo “you’re a real asshole!”
John Baka reverse OCVing Damdai’s team.
The road trip with Marc, his wife, Des and Tong. Funny, funny conversations. All I’ll say is “ploosh! You have reached your destination” and “well…technically…” You guys know what I’m talking about
Caleb’s “sneaky” casual match with Marn, which Marn thought was an actual tournament team match and was mega upset when he found out it wasn’t.
There you have it. Despite how terrible things were, we still made the best of it as always. Still not sure I’m going back to MWC, but we had some good times nonetheless.
I’m 50/50 on everything… I played poorly, I know I was better than that Balrog who got 3rd. Everyone who went from Minnesota was. They fucked with the brackets and that’s not cool. They made sure Floe, Marn, and Valle wouldn’t play each other and made sure it was on the stream. The venue was too small, Keits is a fucking retard and should never run things again.
The positives though, I got to talk a lot of shit. Fuck freetroit. Fuck Freecago. I didn’t get my casuals with Marn but we did talk a bit and I’m cool with him now. He was watching me do some Dudley combos and he proceeded to drop those combos like I do during his next match xD
I’ll most likely still be going to Evo. I won’t go if Keits is running anything though because he could fuck up running a class on how to make fucking pop-tarts.
Man… Venue too small… Playing a person from loser’s bracket in winner’s bracket, playing same person again in loser bracket… got jipped in 3s, because I paid $10 for it, but I didn’t wanna say nothing because they will only get mad and tell you, “It’s a 200+ man tourney”… um… thanks to james, des, and thong for almost causing a crash! literally man! that’s some fcked up sht!! lol … venue too small… hmm… swimming pool outdoor wtf? sit around doing nothing… that staff spot in the middle was just too damn room consuming… If i woulda known it woulda been like that… La Crosse for sure!.. the marn lookalike was annoying as heck… but if felt good eliminating his ass! yes people need to freaken shower… fucken black sweater with cat hair wtf? dirty ass foos… DirtyWerk gettin called like so many times on sunday… feeling pretty ripped off… yes… Wes needs to learn ssf4 so everyone will get better too… um… valle is just too damn good… wolf viper is too damn good… kliquey is the God in casuals… damn too many other shit to post… bracket was super f-ed up… at least denny’s cooked my food right… the bed was super comfy… ok gotta go back to work… post later…
hm, i’m kind of glad i’m not the only person with some complaints. i too feel the long wait just threw me off, not taking anything away from umeshoryu though (he’s good!). sunday was way better, but damn i was freezing in the hotel room. at least i ran into wolfkrone and got some casuals in with some players.
matches with valle and marn were great. like james said, funny how marn thought my match against him was for the 3v3, lol.
as for our teams, it was fun. john’s reverse ocv against gran calc and them was great. it would’ve been nice if thong played with balrog instead of cammy. not the greatest luck against balrogs, but he did well otherwise. covered for me when i horribly lost to that decent abel. props to jame though! always listening to our tips during the matches and almost took out gran calc’s team by himself.
oh yeah, thanks for driving the whole way back garret. i think was awake for less than an hour the whole way back. it felt so quick! thanks a bunch!
Nope MightyMar didn’t take it. As I was telling Desmond, I had no clue the Minnesota Crew was going. If I knew that was the case I would’ve made a different call! Mar had problems with Vince (Random1234) and Desmond is what I saw so we will work and take it from there. He’s making serious progress no questions asked, and should not be discouraged by his ranking, it’s a learning curve everyone goes through!
Congratulations to Erik for taking 2k2UM yes dude I take you seriously, seriously enough that I’m gonna dangle a carrot in front of you to take, which is you coming to Mexico vs. Panama or whatever Juarez, Mexico SNK Major we have in July should you:
If you can pull those feats off, I have talked to my boss and we will treat you with coming down here to Mexico to play with myself and the Mexicans in an international tournament!!!
Whaddaya say man? Also how do I contact Dojo Destroyer/Erik on here since the name Dojo Destroyer is not in the database?
Grats to those who were able to go, especially the place takers. I need to free up my time…(Missed BB, TvC, MB:AA, GGAC, and SSF4. And other games I forgot to name.)
Hops on SSF4 again
Yeah this was my first year watching the MWC to be honest the most exciting streams they showed for me were SSF4 and TvC, TvC was pretty intense at times, now I officially want it.

ahaha he talks about us! for a little bit, i got a shout out =)
woo 2 REVERSE ocv’s at this tournament! ggs all… im tired from this shittiest tournament ive ever been to! only the ssf4 tournament was shit just because they ran too many tournaments and a lot of stations were free and they weren’t doing anything. i dont wanna rant tho since everyone else did
No problem.
Dude, I lost to a garbage El Fuerte player. If I had some casuals with you to remind me how patient I need to be I would have easily won instead of barely losing.
Welcome… MWC was shitty but I’m glad you found it entertaining. Hopefully it’s an indicator that you truly are willing to watch, learn, and practice.
Freetroit doesn’t remember Songo… Songo says fuck Freetroit. He says he OcV’d us… He forgot to mention none of us picked our mains

LOL FUNNIEST VIDEO EVER!!!
Yo, got to meet some of you guys back at the La Crosse tourney and you seem pretty cool. Problem is you guys live around the Cities. 'Tis too far to drive on a normal basis just to play some SF. And most of you own PS3’s as well. Double whammy.
Anyone here live in southeast MN near Winona or hell, even Rochester? Online or offline, doesn’t bother me
I don’t see what the big deal is. At the end of the day, dirtywerk still made 40 bucks off my win. I even came back after songo talked to me to give the money back to dirtywerk, and he told me to keep it. so…thanks dirtywerk.
Mix-up Fuerte or Heavy-whoring Fuerte? Either way, he better have been using Ultra 2…jk. :wgrin:
