I’ll play anything. People know this. There is nothing more I’d like to see than all of the games I list I will run every month ACTUALLY run! It boils down to what’s popular AE and UMVC3 are popular that’s why people play it. Say you go to a tournament and only have $20 to spend. Are you going to enter the game that only has 8 people in the bracket or are you going to try and win the games with the most money in the pot? I think that’s why a lot of people don’t enter 3s,KOF etc. I agree that everybody should play KOF,3S,AH3,ST etc. but people DON’T and WON’T. It also doesn’t help things when everybody says they want to play KOF at the tourney and nobody shows up. It’s pointless to run a 4 man KOF bracket. I realize people have other stuff going on jobs, real life etc. Soooo with that said hopefully everybody that plays KOF comes out on January 21 to support it.
People here seriously need to give these other games a chance tho. Playing other games may help you discover things that you can apply to other games. I’m no expert at KOF but, it seems like a game going in and having solid fundamentals and footsies you can do ok at without playing any of the previous games. Some people who shall remain nameless won’t play the game due to too many jackets lol.
The main reason why MvC3 is my favorite game is because i play mostly for the competition. 3s was my favorite game till sf4 came out and i wasn’t able to get any games in with anyone anymore. From a casual point of view i think i’d still prefer 3s but from a competitive standpoint i’d much rather throw down money towards mvc3 even though it’s not a very good game.
If there’re enough people to make it worth having, ima enter KoF in the january tourney as well as 2012 and MvC3.
I want to host a tourney either in april or next school semester like september in madison. I want this tourney to be “the shit.” like with pot bonuses and stuff. I’m coming home (milwaukee) next week for a bit. I’m going to drop by at one of the weeklys you guys have and explain exactly what I have planned.
The pot bonus will consist of AT LEAST $200 for marvel. ( this will come from my own money ) and some for smash.
I want to call the tournament raging sanchaz!!! (my money, my tournament name, lol)
I want to bring hype to the midwest.
Do you guys like this or not? Tell me what you think.
Assuming Skullgirls is out by then, you should run it. Also you shouldn’t name the tournament after yourself unless it’s a name as godlike as Madwak’s Crack Shack.
yeah mwcs vol. 2 is looking like it’l be in early/mid February. I’ve been working on pot bonuses for the big 2 on top of the venue fee pot bonus that i’ve told some people about.
Popularity breeds popularity, for a number of reasons. They’re also easy to pick up and play and fun from the beginning, so people start with them. A lot of people aren’t just gonna go out and buy kof, arcana heart etc unless they know it’ll be a great game and that others will be playing it for a while. And you don’t just normally get the chance to play those games for free or even randomly see them (unless you have the opportunity to go to regular fighting meetups or something).
All of your criteria are part of popularity. But Street Fighter and MvC are two massively popular franchises on their own well beyond KOF or AH. SF4 and MvC3 have had huge popularity and hype for ages, even before release.
I also personally started playing SF4 because I’ve enjoyed fighting games, it looked great, and was actually released on PC, so I bought it. Eventually I caved and bought a 360 for Super once I gave up hope on a PC version there, and got Marvel after that.
You also should realize that it’s a huge commitment for most people to pick up and try to get good at multiple games. They’ll generally gravitate towards the biggest communities (read: popularity) while the lesser games are relegated to the hardcore, despite how good they are.
That’s also why I made the suggestion for a one-off no entry tournament for some lesser played games, just so people at least try them.
Marvel 3 has almost limitless potential creativity. And it’s fun as fuck. Everyone’s excited about 2012 cause they already have AE and that’s a free update that balances the game and adds stuff. I’m not sure what you’re exactly getting frustrated over, but I’m pretty sure that you’d know that whatever happened could have been avoided.
If you want people to play a new game, put it in front of them and tell them to play, they won’t say no. But you can’t expect people to drop what they’ve been learning and progressing in for three years in exchange for a game the wouldn’t otherwise have any interest in.
every time someone tells me a game is good nowadays and even asks me to play it. I only think " this time wasted with X game can be used for getting better at a game I actually play. this is why I get blown up in tournaments to shit that I dont feel I should lose to."
also probably no one really cares, but my thoughts on 2012 so far:
This game is balanced as fuck now. Honestly I think this is the most balanced 2d game of all time
Sakuras a fucking BEAST. Alex you should be a solid player now. if not yet, Ill show you some shit you wont believe
Ryu > Ken
Blanka has some craazy new tricks. I think he will just be shy of top10 now
top 5: Viper, Akuma, Sagat, Seth, honda/deejay/E.Ryu
way too many fraudulent viper players nowadays.
Gen is a fucking BEAST, but still a fraud character. I have yet to beat a Gen in ranked and I played like 4 different people
Hakan is still a fraud character
The twins and fei are still pretty good. If you dont know the match youll get exposed pretty badly. however my sagat can body all 3 free so idc
