Milwaukee: Too grimey for the rest of WI

Juri says “Hi”. Bring the Astro Glide you’re going to need it.

Jerry is running late today. I’ll post when he’s on his way home.

No games tonight at Jerry’s. He is super busy at work today.

Northern as in NIU? I lived in Dekalb till 2006.

Wish I still did and could go to GGA tbh

If anyone’s interested, I’ll be on UMvC3 Xbox Live all night just riding that Lobby train. If you feel like joining, my GT is Spongejordan123

Re: Milwaukee 12/7 tourney UMVC3 finals - Has Frankie G NEVER played against a Cap or a Haggar before? And has Tornado played Cap at all in Ultimate outside of knowing that he has a double jump? That made me sad. OTG shield slash = better combos than what he was doing, even without assists but I know for a fact that you get beefier damage with Haggar assist and Cap on point.

I know it’s petty complaining about the guy who won when I know I’m not a good player, but considering Cap can TOD anyone with 750k or less by himself with little effort and one meter, and do much worse with some DHC synergy behind him (3 meters and Cap/Thor/Ryu TOD’s 1,050,000 or less), I don’t know why people who get hit by Cap live. The days of him doing unreliable 3x Shield Slash loops are far behind us.

Also, sadfaces about KOF13 not getting enough entrants, but as said before if you want people to play a game you have to come support it yourself. No one’s gonna play a game for no reason, especially when the last one sucked. Show people why that game should be played.

this isn’t to point fingers, just a legitimate question. we are in the heyday of fighters for the current generation, but as evidenced by the tournament, the only 2D games that seem to draw are marvel and sf4. why is it that the majority of you feel more comfortable playing those two games as opposed to everything else that has dropped this year, as well as the games from a few years past that should have plenty of life in them? have you tried KOF13, AH3, 3SOE, MK9 and enjoyed playing sf4 or marvel more? is it the playability, art direction, online play, or something else that draws you to those games as opposed to others?

I’ll seriously play whatever you put in front of me, but one of the huge things that KEEPS me playing a game is competition. If it’s not there and not going to be, then I probably won’t play. And you can’t point to majors for a counter-example because, one, 300 people are there and, two (and a straight counter), when 300 people are there and AE/MVC get 200 people while others get 50 or usually less it’s not exactly the BEST example of how “proven” a game is.

I’d rather play a lot of games over UMVC3. 3S is easily one, but ST, VS, AH3, GG, and even Tech Romancer (yeah you fucking heard me) all rank over it. That said, when few to no people play those games against me but a dozen at even local tournaments are lined up to play UMVC3, there’s a lot more of an incentive to go with that.

I’ve not yet played many matches offline. Captain America is one of those few characters that is a bit more forgiving online than offline. My Cap combos were far shorter than they usual are, and the adrenaline of the moment had my hands a bit less steady than usual. I agree that there could have been more damage on my combos, all around there were a few more drops than usual, but, that’s the nature of the beast some days. I’m going back into the lab this weekend to try and tighten up my offline execution.

its definitely the art direction for me

I can definitely understand tournament nerves and the mentality of “screw that extra 150k, I just wanna make sure I hit someone.” That said, look into shield slash otg relaunch from anywhere midscreen. It’ll carry all the way to a corner and it’s EASY 700k damage. If you end up hitting them while they’re in the corner (a vanilla nightmare with Cap since he got no damage there), Haggar’s assist enables an easy relaunch to BCdCS air combo to otg shield to super to roughly 750 or 800k. It’s all really easy stuff, will probably take you all of five minutes to learn, and enables you to make people shit their pants at the thought of getting hit by Cap.

I counted 33 times in Grand Finals where I could’ve airthrown both of them out of dumb shit. Don’t get mad Hogosha, it wasn’t spectacular play by far. I was very impressed with Chicago’s (Now) patented XFC Command Throw > Superjump M. I’ll make sure to practice it for clutch situations.

I used Haggar in Vanilla for 3 months. During which time Frankie fought me every week.

He beat Papa Valle’s Captain America into submission at UFGT7.

I just assume he played like shit like he usually does in tournaments.

So I was thinking about getting The new KoF. Would I be making a mistake?

i’m thinking of getting kof in january. getting ae this month and i don’t like getting multiple games in one month. definitely picking it up at some point though

I just can’t get into SF seriously.

I know Frankie’s pretty decent at MVC3. (He DID get, what, top 13 or so at UFGT7?) He just let a lot of unsafe stuff go free from both characters, and that confused the hell out of me. I always get confused when players leaps and bounds better than me don’t punish things they should.

Somewhat related, I can’t look at that old B3 footage without thinking “What’s Frankie G doing there?” Honestly, the father/son resemblance is uncanny.

Well we’ll see how well he does at SCR this weekend.

I have to say, the big plus about being down in Tampa/St. Petersburg was the big KOF/Garou draw. People were not afraid to touch it, so I got matches aplenty (having a legit arcade board for Garou helped). That and people were wanting to learn and play it. I’m actually liking it a lot more than SF4, just that the lack of a setup here in the hotel to practice on has put a damper on working on Marvel and KOF. SF4’s going to be going to the wayside too, thanks to 2012’s release.

I still touch MK9 and 3SOE once in a blue moon, but I just don’t feel into them as I do KOF/SF4/Marvel. That and when I run the bracket at the monthlies, I try to enter as few tournaments as I can so I don’t hold people up.

That being said, ticket is booked for Friday. I should be home in Milwaukee for a good, long time. I look forward to plenty of KOF.

I’m disappointed that there’s no Shoutouts to Jake and how well he handled the brackets. That’s the smoothest the tourneys have been run (tech issues aside) in a while.

to me, if you are a fan of fighting games, UMVC3 shouldn’t be your favorite game. i can see why the game is considered fun, but i don’t understand why it would fulfill a set of personal requirements better than another game. to a lesser degree, i feel the same way about SF4. we all know the problems with the engine in that game, and a lot of you are still very excited about version 2012. i don’t really understand why, when KoF13 came out two weeks ago. i can see if you are crazy good at sf4 why it would be fun, but what you lose to in that game is so infuriating, i have to struggle to find the fun in playing it. i will continue to try to get better at it since you guys don’t seem to show signs of putting the game down, but i will be disappointed if most of you don’t give a lot of great releases a chance as well.
