The only aesthetics I have issues with are the hitsparks and backgrounds. Hell, I could care less about the background if there were better hit effects and some extra cg effects tacked on. Then I wouldn’t notice it so much. All in all, it’s somewhat pointless nit-picking, but just saying. As Xeno said, graphics aren’t as big of an issue if the game actually plays well, too bad this is MKV.

Well I think EFZ and WonderfulWorld (wanwan) have the worst graphics I’ve seen.

I like the aesthetics in Akatsuki Blitzkampf, personally. Then again even if it was worse than ClayFighter in terms of aesthetics I’d probably get over it, gameplay is more important than aesthetics when you’re actually playing the game.

Weird though, what’s bad about it? The only thing I think looks really gimpy is falling animations and most forward dashes.

I dunno, E’s laf looks like mugen. That game is too ghetto.

EFZ IS pretty ugly. But it still has a charm of a bobblehead doing a set of moves from KoF, SF or Marvel, and it has pretty good effects. Gameplay is more important to you, but that’s not for everyone else. I can’t play games that doesn’t click with me, like Touhou(wonderful game with 6-year old looking anime kids in maid uniforms) for instance. This game’s animation is really not that great.

also arcade aka fixed a lot of the shitty graphics of the pc version by adding in a bunch of new stuff (backgrounds, voice clips, animations)

I think Akatsuki looks great too. Original style, and also good technically (shading, frames) for a doujin fighter. But as with all styles that are original / different / odd, there’s bound to be some people that hates it with a passion.
I’d say it’s second only to BBB in graphics among doujin games. And after that I’d put Crazy Power Disc.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who thinks Blitzkampf is ugly. It’s mostly the shading style and way the characters are rendered. If they’d have done it in the same style as the concept art, then it could have looked really cool. But they didn’t, so eh.

but this is coming from a guy who loved the artstyle in Gleam of Force, so it goes without saying that I’m biassed towards anime/cartoon styles over realistic ones.

I also think part of the problem with MkV looking ugly is that the effects and displays are really cheap and nasty. Now if you compare it with Chaos Code, you can clearly see a major difference in presentation.
